  5. A selection of satnav references for Hotel/bnb accommodation in lieu of the forthcoming event and the anticipation traveller may require a stopover. Alas, one thing Todmorden does not have is a surfeit of is Hotels, though the Town sits on the confluence of 2 major roads leading to the industrial towns of Rochdale, Burnley, Halifax and Brighouse....all with in a half hour radius of the Calderdale venue. I've included suggestions as thus, prices will be variable, check their websites for details and availability. Tod is naturally, serviced by a bus and railway station for those looking to save on a car journey as well.
  6. This event is already creating a buzz, watch out and listen as the advertising is ramped up over coming weeks, a lot of folk genuinely interested and the calendar as it stands, hopefully will prompt folk to pick this event as their Bank Holiday Day Out selection. The Golden Lion will almost certainly be open for no later than mid day, and fingers crossed, we get some nice weather with it too. The Downstairs room is a very extensive area with speakers placed predominately so the music can be heard, wherever folks are sat. PLEASE arrive as early as possible, if travelling by car, so as to obtain parking, there are a number of streets where it is free but spaces are limited. There are metered car parks close by at: The venue sits aside the A6033 ( Rochdale Rd ) at the convergence of the A646 ( Burnley - Halifax road ) the nearest motorway junction is J21 M62 at Miln Row, Todmorden is signposted from there. Also if approaching from North west J9 M65, via Burnley. From the North east, Brighouse J25 M62. Regards parking arrangements: Oxford St - Dale St - George St - Lever St - Union St - Shool Lane - Rose St - Bramsche Sq - Brook St and Dalton St can all be found astride the Halifax Road A646, less than 5 mins walk from the venue Note: these are ALL metered car parks, parking is relatively cheap ( £2 maximum fee and all are FREE after 6pm ) Todmorden Train Station also has a metered carpark. There are limited FREE PARKING spaces in Hall Lane and Rise Lane. As usual for this purpose check satnav positioning to locate where to park. We could suggest Morrison's or any of the other supermarket car parks in town but for time restrictions, so..best advised not to really.
  7. Guest djs confirmed for this event include: A very special appearance by Solar Radio presenter, Blackpool Tower & Wnter Gardens promoter and Wigan Casino icon, RICHARD SEARLING, with memories of ' Soul Up The Hill ' @ The Bay Horse, Todmorden. Ginger's longtime dj partner, EDDIE ANTEMES will be sharing the decks again as part of this tribute. JORDAN WILSON & CAROL McCARTHY, complete the assemblage for the day, bringing their own choice of quality tunes to bear on proceedings AND....MR. TAYLOR, the architect of all soulful things in this wonderful outpost of Northern Soul in Calderdale, will also be overseeing this occasion too!. A change to the itinerary as we speak as this function will now consist of the whole DOWNSTAIRS room....but it's still a completely FREE event!. Hopefully, that will be all the inspiration you need to make this penultimate Bank Holiday, a very special one! I'll update the event image in due course. Will also get some youtube selections on here from the djs concerned.

  16. Agentsmith posted a soul guide event in Alldayers

ACTUALLY...it's 14years since the very first function ( 2011 ) but this is the 12th event. Always a go-to destination and rightly talked of as the UK's # 1 and best loved All Dayer, it's quite simply, an outstandingly popular attraction, at the very height of Summer, hence the moniker " HOTTER THAN JULY " and with 3 rooms of stunning music to make a Sunday sizzle, those words are right on the money! Richard Searling and Neil Rushton have created something unbelievably special, in a breathtaking setting: The elegant DUNKENHALGH HOTEL & SPA, set in it's own extensive acreage, complete with restaurant, bar facilities and top class sauna, solarium, swimming pool and gymnasium, plus more than ample parking, really ramps this up into a sophisticated occasion. With a top notch line up of over 25 djs, bringing the sound of Soul from across the decades, to present day, you're sure to hear something that catches the imagination and stirs the memories. Room availability is now very limited as the date draws close and to emphasize just how popular this staycation is, with the WHOLE hotel given over to the event, it has SOLD OUT for the last 7 consecutive years! So...DON'T DELAY if you want to stay! Tickets ( with wristbands ) are paid for seperately, and available from Soulvation.biz Full details are in the current flyer

  19. To all members, due to personal matters today, no update was listed for Anglo American Auction, End Thu 19th June 2025. As soon as the actual results are available i will post here as normal. Sorry for any inconvenience caused and apologies to all concerned.
  20. When Chris King & Terry Sampson formed the Notts & Lincs Soul Club, they took on Birmingham Locarno which became a fortnightly All Dayer on Sundays. Brian was i think, the first name on the list there...that's how i got to know.....not considerably as long as many others on here but, i came to know him and saw him dj everywhere else after that...would've been 77/78 period. I asked him if he would dj at my 21st Birthday party...he even brought the equipment!, a night i'll never forget. A genuinely friendly, warm, honest guy, laid back...djing was a natural for him and he was followed and adored by many. He's now at peace, free of the shackles of illness...for us who remain, his passing brings great sorrow but safe in the knowledge we experienced some wonderful times in his company, wherever we originate from...he will be wholeheartedly missed. God rest your soul in peace. Brian Rae 16 - 06 - 2025 R.I.P.
  21. He's A Wrong Number - Canadian Polydor or, preferably U.S. release ( Admiral ) Quote price please
  22. There was blues beforehand, rhythm added to make it uplifting though by definition the music was about the continual struggle in life for afro-americans. I couldn't pick a particular song that defines the start or even the end and as for personally, i wouldn't have realized i was listening to the genre that has permeated our scene for so long because i would've classed it as soul music, it was all the same to me so long as you could dance to it?
  23. Already said here but, it remains that the Four Vandals involved real musicians and real singer. Just an attempt to duplicate the sound of the 60's and fool everyone into thinking it was actually a previously undiscovered tune, in the event djs got duped as well..a particular confrontation at the Kings Hall Stoke springs to mind when the truth got out😲🤣 though it wasn't funny in that moment. AI with regards music, is 100% invention, the human being still has to teach it first
