  1. Sorry my friend but you have used a ridiculous example. Mick H is a smashing bloke, but he is obviously a wealthy man. I, on the other hand am not. For me it's an obsession. I spend vast amounts of money that I don't have, and struggle to make ends meet. No fancy cars or foreign holidays for me. Don't imagine that all the people who pay the ridiculous prices for records are all wealthy. Cos they're not. They are the ones who are REALLY passionate about this scene..... You are talking about something you have no experiance of, and I would presume that you like the classic oldies, and attend Mr. Roberts events..... Though I may be wrong
  2. Here, here, nail on head time..... And when you've actually paid four figures for a record and some wannabe dj plays the boot before you go on, then and only then will you know what you are talking about. It's the reason that there are hundreds of events on every weekend. And the reason that the scene is splitting in two. One, Retro scene. And the rare/upfront/something different scene. It's the easiest thing in the world to pack a dance floor at a "soul night" just play the old favourites over and over again. Then stand back smugly with your arms folded and bask in your glory...... Thing is, £200 and a trip to Beatin Rhythm in Manchester is all it takes. If thats good enough for you then god help our scene.
  3. Is it just me then that thinks both sides are rubbish.
  4. Now you know what it's like Ted, that's why people keep posting saying they can't read final prices. I haven't been able to for ages now so I asked John what the crack was...... It appears that John saw the link on here and didn't like the idea of us being able to see the final bids. He said that someone had hacked into his site in order to acheive this link, so he got his site boffins to alter it...... Apparently some can still get the prices, so it's something to do with your software maybe..... Thanks for the soundfile though Ted, much obliged Best regards, Phil.
  5. --> QUOTE(Geoff B @ Aug 5 2006, 03:56 PM) link Hi Phil, Didn't know this came out,it's not listed on my Diamond Jim listing,is it supposed to be a different version of the Steptones Leave us alone on 'Big D'? Geoff Buckley. WHALLEY&BILLINGTON BRASS BAND CLUB.With Fred Krol&Geoff Buckley Friday 11th August,Guest D.J The infamous Mr Rod Shard. 8 till 12.30. £3otd. Hi Geoff, Well I'm lying actually, Dickie played it at The Cricket Club last year and I thought it was fantastic. Since then Cliff got it off Dickie and I have no chance of getting him to play it for me, let alone do me a cd...... My only hope is to get him to play it at The Burnley Allnighter next month... You know what he's like, SECRET SQUIRREL It's also in Tim Browns guide so he must have it I presume.
  6. Heard them all now except the Terrifics. That must be dog rare.
  7. Do you know anything about the sequel Pete?
  8. Yes they are the old DVD's and you are waisting your time with dial up anyway.
  9. Think we have been here before. But just to reiterate. The film is a national treasure, it has everything, great cast, really funny script, original story line and the wonderful motown soundtrack. One of the best films I've ever seen...... AND, there was supposed to be a sequal, set in the states with an Atlantic/Stax sound track. I remember seeing Lenny Henry on something like Friday Night Live. He was dressed in the 70's clothes and had the HAIR BEAR BUNCH affro. He was talking about shooting the sequel at that time, but it was never released. Don't even know if it was filmed. Shame, I was really looking forward to it.... I recorded it at the time, and it remains a treasured posession.
  10. Bloody hell, no wonder I've never heard it played out then. Is it uptempo Chalky?
  11. Blimey, talk about chalk and cheese. Nurons is a fantastic piece of group soul that I would dearly love to own. The other is f***ing offensive to my taste and takes over 4 minutes to get to the vocal. If thats the 7inch I dread to think what the 12inch is like. ........ Sorry Simon, I know we all have different taste, but to me those two tunes are worlds apart. One is SOUL, the other is disco...... I just can't see how you can like both those styles. No offence tho mate, it's probably just me being narrow minded.
  12. Thanks Tony, where can I purchase the CD's then?
  13. I don't know about you, but there's loads of tunes I've been told are fantastic, but are so rare that I can't find them to listen to........ Here's a few that I'd love to hear, anyone help?........ TOBBI BOWE - I CAN FEEL HIM SLIPPING AWAY - PATHWAY PAUL KELLY - THE UPSET - LLOYD KEITH CURTIS - I GOT TO KEEP YOU BABY - SMOKE TERRIFICS - LEAVE US ALONE - DIAMOND JIM GRAND PRIX'S - ROAR OF THE CROWD - TINA
  14. One of those tunes that sounds much better when played out. Really vital and exciting. And those breaks fantastic. Total dance floor viagra, gets me up every time. Phil.
  15. Think this is one of those that everyone dreams of owning. It's been top of my wants list for quite some time now, along with other dream titles like Celebrities, Tranells, Four Dynamics, Explosive Dynamiks, Mr. Lucky, Little Stanley, Poets, Saints........etc. etc.etc..... Good luck tho' Baz
  16. I agree with you that the quality of some of the tunes leaves a lot to be desired. But I find the site very useful as a reference. And I have played some and not liked them, only to hear them played out and thought wow that sounds awesome. There are also tunes that you need to hear a few times before they grow on you....... So I'm very greatful to John for the site, I just wish you could hear ALL the tune.
  17. Blimey, you bit on that one Ian. ...... I've seen loads of them for sale since J.M. got the grand on his auction....
  18. Another example of this is the Masqueraders - How on La beat. No way is this a rare piece, but since J.M. auctioned it everyone expects a grand for it.
