Ady, what happened to the RCA Cd that was due out a couple of years ago and had all the tunes on that JT got off you? Has it been cancelled? I notice that some of those tracks are on this release.

It's a double edge sword. The secret society aspect is what made the scene so attractive. Fantastic music that you couldn't hear unless you went to the clubs. Now you can listen to almost anything without leaving your armchair, and there isn't anything new (quality) to go out for. Hopefully the exposure will get more youngsters interested. but I wouldn't bet on it.

The best ones that I have found came from Jazzman records.

I couldn't live without my minidisc players/recorders. In my humble opinion the best format for recording vinyl onto bar none. I have never been able to get on with the Cd format, and the latest i-pads are soul less. Every record I ever get goes straight onto minidisc. I love 'em.

I love the record, but when you consider how much you got the Milton James for Marc............... mmmmmm.......the strange world of northern soul.

While I agree with 99% of the records listed here, there were three or four that made my jaw drop in disbelief as I regard them as absolute class northern.

I've always hated albums, and this series just enforced my opinion of the long player and the sad people who spend their lives listening to them. What a load of pretentious rubbish. What a waste of valuable vinyl. 45's are where it's at as far as I'm concerned. Any tune over three minutes duration is a sin.

Andy, this is something I have asked many times and I've tried everywhere with no luck. I even ordered some from the states, cost me a fortune and they were rubbish. Before I packed in collecting I even thought about getting some custom made. I once got a 45 from a Japanese seller which was inside the best card white sleeve I have ever seen, I still have it and would have loved some more of that type. Jazz man do brilliant inner sleeves, but their card ones are the usual crap.

There's no myth. I had the said "holy grail" in my hands a few months ago.

I don't know Marc. I've never pretended to be a collector, or even a soul music fan per se. I love a certain style of music that makes me feel good, and want to dance. Most of it seems to have been made in the sixties, and performed by black artists. I still call it "Northern" because it just has that special something [je nais se quoi] that makes it stand out from all the other styles. I admire the way you proper soul fans have such deep knowledge of all the genres and the artists, producers etc. I struggle to remember the tunes I do like, never mind the ones I don't. I remember Johnny Beggs [very knowledgeable, and bloody nice lad] playing me a record. I said sorry Johnny I don't like it. He then proceeded to tell me everything, and I mean everything about the 45. I eventually had to stop him and say.............yes Johnny but it's crap. Why would I want to know it's entire history? I don't even care if the singer is white!!! as long as it moves me, then it's "northern" If only more people had a quality control Marc. I would love to hear some new "quality" northern. Unfortunately they don't make it any more, and 99.9% of the good stuff has been found and played already.

I'm not surprised mate it's mediocre in my humble opinion, and the Carl Holmes thing is just rubbish. It's such a shame that people are so desperate to play something different that they forget about "Quality"
