Bob Relf
I kind of referred to it back on 2006 when I wrote: Trans American Discography? Or any other info on the label. I've had three releases: 0007 Sam & the Soul Walkers 0008 Village Crusaders 0010 Bob Relf Between 0007 and 0008 the address changes from Hollywood to another part of LA and all three have different phone numbers! I've also seen listed an Aki Aleong 45, "Legend of the Limbo" with the cat No. 1010. Although the numbering system is different I assume it's the same label as he is involved in two of the earlier releases. Any other info or recommendations? ............. As you can see it wasn't exactly a hot topic

Pat Brady At Stafford Unknown
Spy Trap is an updated version of Keith Mansfield's Men On The Move. There's also a cover by Adventures of Parsley - a band specialising in reworkings of 60s/70s TV and film themes. I don't think the Quator record would really interest anyone other than theme tune/library music heads to be honest.

Thank The Lord For Love
To be honest we've debated this before and I think opinions are split roughly 50/50. Probably means there's not much difference in reality - although I still think the pink one looks nicer...

Things I Need To Have On British
I've bought a few British things over the past few years and it was only when I put them together that I realised that they were almost all the jazzier side of soul records: Nancy Wilson - Ode to Billy Joe - Capitol demo; Lou Rawls - Season of the Witch - Capitol demo; Peggy Lee - Sneaking Up On You - Capitol demo; Della Reese - Very Good Year - HMV demo; Cleo Jons - Shortest Distance - RCA demo; Ella Fitzgerald - These Boots - Stateside demo; Anita Harris - Lies - Vocalion demo; Jon Hendrircks - No More - Verve demo; Mark Murphy - Why Don't You Do Right - Philips issue, Jimmy Castor - Hey Leroy - Philips issue; Young Holt - Wack Wack - Coral issue. Maybe some others that are mixed in with the US 45s... Not sure why I ended up buying mostly jazzy stuff on UK editions but as I seem to be heading down that path I'd welcome similar recommendations

Never Seen One Of These Before
I think I started a topic about a similar machine some years ago when a chap in my my local record shop had one. I seem to remember being advised that the recordings were dreadful quality and it was hard to get the blanks. Pretty cool nonetheless.

Which area are you playing at Glasto, Greg? Mrs G and I will there for the 20th time since '89 this year.

Anybody Going To The Ponderosa Stomp This Year? Been Before - Tips?
Thanks Gary I was starting to think I was on the spice girls forum for a moment. Seriously though, I'm aware that quite a few members on the defunct Fryer-Mantis Funk Forum used to attend, and I know at least one of our US based members has DJd at the Allnighter that precedes the two day event. I'd have thought however that some UK based Soul Sourcers would have been there too, especially as there's also a conference with talks by artists and others involved in the music plus a record fair. Anyway nice little promo film here

-
Frankie Valli - The Night 2Nd Issue?
No need for my benefit - just played mine and it has the whispered beginning just like the UK Mowest version. Honest!
-
Frankie Valli - The Night 2Nd Issue?
Sorry - thought you meant it was the one in post 20 with the completely different intro
-
Frankie Valli - The Night 2Nd Issue?
You sure mate? That's just the Dutch issue that came in a pic sleeve isn't it? There's also German version on Tamla Motown that has the same pic sleeve but different coloured writing block across the top. I didn't think either of them were the alternate version.

Been waiting for this post since yesterday, Dave. Almost did it myself but knew you'd be along eventually

Syng Mcgowan - What I Want £150 + Lionel Hampton - Greasy Greens £70
Apologies Steve - I didn't see this query. I always refund if buyer isn't happy. However. I've just spotted your question as I've had a query if the item is available. If it sells sorry again for missing your reply. If it doesn't sell I'll get back to you. Best Paul

Danny Wagner Lp Query.......motown Involvement?
I think there's definitely a connection the other way round ie Barry White with his West Coast Del-Fi/Mustang/Bronco connections playing drums on some Motown recordings.

What Have I Missed? Been Away Four Years
You've missed Sooty's inability to make a concise point in fewer than five paragraphs Other than that: playing of boots in venues; oldies v newies; all the best records have already been found; records are too expensive/impossible to sell; Manship's book has ruined everything but I'd like to sell records at his auction prices; youngsters ruin venues for adults/are the lifeblood of the scene; it's all a bit rubbish since they started playing all that funk/R&B/popcorn/modern shite; venues should avoid clashing dates; there are too many venues. Thankfully though everyone in the Freebasing section has finally reached agreement on politics and football. Does it really feel like four years now Dayo..? welcome back

Looks like we're fiinally going to visit New Orleans this year and we're planning our trip to coincide with the Ponderosa Stomp for a slap up feast of soul, funk, R&B blues, garage, rockabilly and zydeco. Anyone else thinking of heading there or been before (or Nola generally) and have any tips about accommodation, food, must sees and so on. Cheers Baby Washington Bobby Crown Ty Wagner Charlie Gracie Chris Clark Eddie Daniels Swamp Dogg Gino Parks Gaunga Dyns James Alexander Lynn August Maxine Brown Boogaloo Richard Caiton Sonny Green Spencer Wiggins The Standells The Sloths Charles Brimmer Chris Montez

Book Prices?
I've been saying the same for a while. I like Peter's approach with the Funk Lexicon where there are release details and a symbol giving a rough idea of how scarce or common a record is. It's not perfect as it can't account for a load of copies turning up but it certainly makes much more sense in a world of fluctuating prices.

Soul Trivia
https://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=5305 "Contrary to legend, the harmonica player was not Rod Stewart but Pete Hogman of The Pete Hogman Blues Band and Hoggie & The Sharpetones. Hogman told us: "The backing for 'My Boy Lollypop' was recorded live in the studio. I played harmonica and Ernest Ranglin played a black Gibson. Several people have claimed to have played the harmonica break but I can promise you it was me, and it was all recorded in London. By the way, Rod Stewart has never claimed to have played that solo, in fact he has said it was me in the Bob Marley life story Catch A Fire."
