John Manship Auction Results 24 - 9 - 2014
That is easy; on those not too rare but still with a flowing demand to it, to estimate the top bid on JM auctions do like so; If it can be accepted that Howard Guyton in Ex/M should be set at +/- 150 £ on list, then add 50% to 75 % (JM factor) and you have a good chance to be close to the final score. Now to achieve that, some relevant and not so relevant points need to be fed to the bidders like rarer mint stock issue (that is = NOS !!! = multiples most of the time). I never considered this Verve stock issue rarer than the demo. On the contrary, I had to turn down many issues to get a clean promo through the years. The stocker collectors are getting blinded by the need to "upgrade" their collection and the dealers are not losing their touch... Some of those issues are ever since considered rarer and if it's the case for some, it is really not a generality. In this case it's pure infatuation. Just check Popsike or Collectorsfrenzy and you'll see. But there is also/always the exception here to prove the rule; David Coleman is as unexplainable as unexpected to me. I don't see where the logic works, nor how to apply a mathematical recipe to it. Is it another one of those Broadways dementia factor ? I still love to look at JM auctions and their descriptions for the fun, the critical eye, ear and heart but just to see the final result with some jealousy, disgust and better expectation for the future music and record wise. It's a bit like watching, reading or hearing the news... Can't help doing so and i must say it doesn't always bring joy and felicity to the start off the day. Curiosity killed the cat.

Billy Stewart 'sitting In The Park' Chess
Looking for an at least "play strong" vg copy or better. It must be original; either USA, Canadian or UK. Still with descent overall looks (swol, noc, stol are OK) but since it's going to be for DJ purpose, it don't need to be in collectors shape and priced in accordance of course. PM me for proposals.

Barbara & The Castles
Mary Love's 'hey stoney face' b/w 'gotta get you back' and her first first 45 'you turn my bitter into sweet' b/w 'let me know' are all Jobette publishing with 3 out of 4 Pimpkin's composition. Both issued in 1965. So Mary Love's version is first to be published anyway. The label Ruby-Doo would have been founded in 1966 by a guy called John Marascalco (founder of Cee-Jam Records, JC, Lola Records, Princess Records, Ruby-Doo Records, Sabrina Records) and featured (studio) bands that did covers... Brenda started her career at Motown mid 1964 and it is established that she did sing for different outfit under a pseudo in 1966 while she was still doing fine at Motown. And in Barbara's version of 'stoney face' you do have reminders of 'when I'm gone' I find. Even though her tone us lower and less powerful than normally. So if this Brenda in 1966, it is absolutely possible as she went in the studios to sing with the Ikettes (Phi-Dan), the Belles (Mirwood) under pseudos in that time 1966.

Barbara & The Castles
Agreed with RobbK, Barbara's cut sounds like a demo version to me. Indeed it has an edge ("rawer") of something rather unfinished. Never liked it so much. It sounds "pop" in the arrangements. Most likely to give the song an appeal to a larger crowd. Vicky (Pinky & Purky) Nelson is pure dreaded cover musically and vocally. While Mary Love's version being elevator's muzak, if so I'll swap my anorak coat for a bell boy hat right away and spend the rest of my life working in elevators going up and down.

John Manship Auction Results 17 - 9 - 2014
Oh, never seen anything like it. Even the one on Popsike sold as a presumed promo copy don't show anything stating it's one ! All the 6T's and early 7T's Gamble promos I've seen were real white promos and not issues customized with a stamp or sticker on. So you say otherwise ? Well I'd like to see that then, just to be proven wrong...

John Manship Auction Results 17 - 9 - 2014
I don't get this at all. Amazing tracks both sides. That USA Gamble issue is indeed harder to come along than the Sassy (not with the 'this is just a 'B' side) for what ever reason. There's no promo of the Gamble since the Sassy issue already did the job (local hit) and so it was released through Gamble to try and satisfy "a" public demand. Maybe it didn't work out somehow... It even got European releases through the Gamble connection. But the top of it all are those dreadful strings they added for what ever (no) reasons on 'love (your pain goes deeper)' for this Gamble release that even the UK Inferno reissue (from the late 7T's or early 8T's) didn't use. Thank the lord for that. All that makes this Frank Beverley Gamble INFACTUATION IMHO something that still... leaves me... in a daze... even after all this time. Collection can be one thing. Sense, ear and affection (compare the label's design and pick) might be another in the end...

Nice Foreign Purchase
