  1. Hi Mick, I would be interested to know if you think the passion is for the music; having the sound on the original vinyl; the exclusiveness of having it on original vinyl or something else? With regards to knowing the labels, does it matter? Surely the idea of a night out is to enjoy yourself. Regards, Neil
  2. There is no right or wrong way in my book.

No idea what year this was, but she was still top notch live. When I see clips like this I wonder how much they would have benefited if we had programmes like this on mainstream TV in the UK when they were at their peak. Or am I just talking through soul tinted glasses?
  4. Agree, a quality sound

So many to choose from but I have plumped for a modern soul classic, which always bring a smile to my face.

Not a shock, but it still hits you. Betty live at Wigan is up there in my ultimate nights out list. RIP to a consummate performer.
  7. Always hated Cochise but loved Afternoon Of The Rhino
  8. Always liked "Heading Down A Fools Road - Carol Woods"
  9. Apologies Mike, for 2 in a short time, but just found this for the first time and have to share it. The pen of Curtis (not many much better), Al Green Linda Jones & Wanda Neal taking us to church on a Sunday morning. Hallelujah.
  10. I'm never one for clips from weekenders etc as I feel you need to be there. Having said that i'll make an exception here, as the voice is still strong and the band pretty tight.
  11. Sweet harmonies
  12. Another one lots won't appreciate, but they were the tightest funk/soul band around until Maze caught them up. First saw them with Santana in 75 and they never disappointed. The weird thing is the two were due to tour together again in 2020, before Covid hit.
  13. Gladys & the Pips on top form
  14. An excellent watch/listen if you've never done so
  15. If you were playing a set for the first time post lockdown what 3 tracks would you start with? My starter for 10. One Step At A Time - Maxine Brown Time To Get Down - O'Jays Happy - William Bell
  16. Once again not for all, but for me a very underrated performer. The best song from a Soul musical along with " Jennifer Holiday - And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" She is a pocket rocket live.
  17. One of my favs
  18. I think that may be the crux Mike, though I could be wrong, as I haven't been to an event for eons. I feel that the average soul fan probably wouldn't (well prior to the lockdown) consider travelling a 100 miles, unless for a weekender these days. And that is probably where the difference in opinion kicks in to a degree, in that the avid collector/fan is still prepared to travel and wants to hear something they wouldn't hear everywhere else whereas most are happy to go local listen to whatever is played.
  19. I am sure the majority of members brought boots at some point in the distant past. Did I ever worry what was being played in what format when I started clubbing, absolutely not, not sure I even knew what they were. However, opinions change over time, though for me the important thing has always been whether I like what i'm listening to, so I would always personally prefer a boot I loved, over an original sound worth £2K which I wouldn't give the time of day for. I also wonder whether the scene would have become as big as it did without boots, you can argue if that is a good or bad thing. In the end it comes back to, to each his own, respect your neighbour's opinions and remember it's what's in the grooves that counts. All of the above would change if I thought that a percentage of the price paid made its way back to the artists concerned. Stay soulful and stay safe.

I'm assuming all-nighter and if i'm playing the last 3 it would be a mixed crowd. By the end of the night I'll also be knackered so how about Stranger At My Door - Fuller Brothers Why Can't We Be Lovers - Holland & Dozier Its An Uphill Climb To The Bottom - Walter Jackson
  21. This wont be everyone's cup of tea, but I love the way this grabs builds, and reminds me of what a sense of joy she exuded when I saw her live.
  22. I think this is live but could be wrong I love it anyway.
  23. Well start with a supreme singer songwriter.
  24. It was last sold on popsike in 2013 for $94
