Prophets/Martha Starr mock up acetate
Thankns for explaining all that Robb 🙂 good to know about the desired background mixing on these, Id have guessed that, but have another question around 'versions'. I have three in my i-Tunes Library, it seems this track has been cut up, digitally I mean many times, its actually hard to say how, what you have said connects to which acetate. I have, 1/ The Originals - Suspicion released on The Motown Sound 7" Box Set : Rare and Unreleased Vinyl, sounds very thin to my ears, not much bass on this recording. Time (3:09). 2/ (version 1 - alternate mix) released on the CD "This Is Northern Soul! The Motown Sound - Volume 2" the pair of CD's that came out in the mid to late 9ts, very BIG at the time, and sounds allot more rounded and bouncy, lots of bass! Time (3:02). 3/ And finally an Alt mix, thats just what Ive called it, which sounds like its been taken from a live taped session, mp3 below for reference...Time (1:56), just slow fades at the end. Sounds like somebody has just dialed everything out bar vocals and some percussion at the mixing desk. Would you take a stab at which is what? if you know what I mean. The Originals - Suspision (Alt take).mp3

JMAuction - 28/06/2023 - Results!
I thought Phil Terrell was very cheap really, no sense to these final sale prices is there... On another note, no, not the economy, I cannot deal with that SNAFU! Did anybody see what 'We The People - Ain't No Way' went for on Tim Brown's auction?

First Major Imported NS 45.
I'm sure you are aware, but Colin Curtis interviewed Pep recently, and they talked about FL Moore. I think they said he was the first person to stock / have any Ric Tic 45's. In fact, they really shed allot of light on the period, 67/68/69 and then 70/71/72, really worth listening to. They talk about Cheapo Cheapos, Moon Dogs, places like that... https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/colincurtis/episodes/2023-02-18T10_26_16-08_00

First Major Imported NS 45.
Question, would 'Chris Kenner - Land of 1000 Dances' been an early import that got played at the Wheel ? Think that would have been 'Instant Records' in the States, very early 62/63. Just in keeping with Aussie Test Presses, cause I like lookin at em.....lol

First Major Imported NS 45.
I can't comment on imports in the late 6ts, but for a bit of eye candy, here's the Australian Test Press for the Festival release of 'Call on Me' as it came out twice. Lots of Bobby's early Duke tracks were on Aussie Top Rank, Cry Cry Cry etc...W&G had loads of releases on Bobby also, as well as some really interesting early Motown Releases, such as Bunny Paul and Contours. Also, someone mentioned Willie Tee, here is the Aussie Atlantic test press for that release, dunno bout you lot, but I get very hot under the collar with Aussie Test Presses!

Lucky Cordell, or Moses 'Lucky' Cordell was a big name at WVON, both as a DJ and later in Management at the station, his daughters Pat & Pam, had two releases via his GEC productions, "I Love You Yes I do" on Our Own Records, which now fetches money, and "Hey Love" on DAY DREAMING Records in 1974, which I think is such a quality 7ts track...it turns from a sweet track to something totally differnt, Rhythm via Larry & the Hippies on that 45... Lucky Cordell was deeply involved in the music business right up to the 8ts, his 'Good Luck' label / GEC productions put out 'Morris Jefferson – It's The Last Time Around for Me' in 1980, soaring vocals from Maurice, great modern track. actually, I realised E Rodney Jones and Larry & The Hippes had a connection also, they cut ‘Right On Right On' (Sex Machine), where Rodney does his thang ad libbin... I guess we should also mention Rufus Thomas and Sly Stone out there on the West Coast for their DJ work, which influenced their later music...

Texas - Keep On Talking - Cover Version
I agree John, not relevant really is it, only the good ones are relevant, so to speak... might I suggest this as something that I went crazy over a few years back, quite etherial this one... this is how to cover a great song... !

US Black Radio 1960's -- local spins
Ahhh!! you found it.... thank you 🙂 I think it was used as a jingle, as I got that from a now defunct radio station Jingle site. I guess, if the show was made for a certain channel, then Radio stations in that group may have access to the song, they would have owned it outright if the song was commissioned for a show. We used to get all sorts of content at News UK (News International) from sister companies, Sky etc... so sharing content internally always goes on, there would be a license fee, but it would be well below market price... Thats very cool, cheers for finding that, I always wondered where it came from

Remember the night I got my copy Paul? we all drove up in my old Renault 5 and were followed by the rozzers most the way back!! lol. me doing a very capable 30mph out of London was a miracle really.... at least Bud cost the princely sum of £7, from a certain record dealer on the back wall, who was wearing a skirt...! he was a nice guy though, and his records were always cheap... On record prices elsewhere, did you all check Chryslers with monarchs band for £900 in the sales section? made my eyes water...

And finally, thank god! Moving On Up - Radio Jingle, no idea but I love the gospel grove in this one, probably 69/70/71, maybe for a black audience, but having heard the kind of adverts you got on KVON in Chicago, I'd say probably its aimed at a white audience..
