Thats a cracking line up for the weekender. Thank you very much for the heads up there guys, Plenty of options there! As much as I would love to make it to the weekender myself, I might have trouble convincing the stag party to jump the train. Would 12 pissed up soulfull Paddys be welcome? Anwers on a postcard? The same group of lads were on my own stag in Edinbrugh last year and we ended up at The Spiders Web. All well behaved n Soul etiquette adhered to. Great night had Atb Clint

I don't think it's so much he built the Thames Barrier, as they provide imagery of any terrain and the proceeds of such are sufficient to fund eight grand soul records... We're in the wrong fookin business! Dare I say it! It could be a watershed moment and the floodgates are open Sorry eeeek! Clint

I sold my mint copies of The Volumes and The Oxford Nights on here privately last year for £1275.00. I'm sad to say I just got tired of playing both. Only time will tell I may live to regret that .... Clint

Hey Ali, Hope you are keeping well too, Its been far too long. Thanks! glad that made ya laugh. Makes me laugh aswell. I mean how could he not know I was playing. Fuck sake like! (Jokin of course) U know me, I have a tendency to do daft quite well n it was like he had my number within 5 seconds. The way he dealth with my awkwardness , ha ha what a pro. A propper Legend! It was mad, two strangers cracking eachother up after just a few words. Brilliant ! n then the realisation that he was watching me cue up the next tune. Aaaaghh ! In my head I'm like I hope he ain 't watching this but I think he was just curious to know what was coming next. It was Glenda Mcleod! N like that he was gone! Seriously , What a cool bloke Thats mad , I've only just noticed we share a birthday, Somewhere there's a soul heaven bro Laters Hey Keep intouch Al. x

I'm gutted! This is very sad ! A true Gent and a big loss to music, n to think most kids today don't even know who this guy is. Its not right! I have a wee Frankie Knuckles story, It was the one n only time I ever met him. It was 1998, I was 18 years old n I had'nt been Djing around Dublin City for that long because of my age! I got into Northern Soul at the age of 15 and had been collecting solidly over that period collecting only Northern and as every1 on here know's when Northern grabs you by the short n curlys there ain't no going back. As a result I missed the whole House thing and my intro to House actualy came from spending time in the modern rooms at various allnighters and this is where I first heard Tears. I thought, Brian thats bloody good, you gotta get that, so i did. At that time this was my one n only House record in a Northern collection. Any way this one day back 98 a pal of mine asks me last min.com if I would 'nt mind doing a set of Northern/70's in this bar thats part of a big club Venue called The Pod. It was the 2 of us for the night rotating every hour. Obviously delighted to get a gig I only too gladly jumped at the chance. Now we all make mistakes, this one was priceless. Still very much earning my stripes n very eager to impress I was straight to the box to sort out the set for that night. I got the tunes together n as I was leaving home to head to the Venue I said Feck it I'll bring that Frankie Knuckles thing I just got n I'll drop that. MISTAKE! I'll explain how this went. Joey kicked it off n I went next. Following on from Joeys storming Northern set I hopefuly continued in the same vein, heading towards the 70's stuff at end of my first hour. Punters were grooving and there was a good vibe brewing n I thought to myself nice wan! It was then I decided to drop the Frankie Knuckles. Imagine this, the Dj box overlooks the bar about 20 foot up and the only way into it is up a ladder. The tune had only just started n this nice Fella climbs the ladder with a big smile n sez "Hi ! Nice tunes kid whats yr name? Thanks mate, Brian Dunne, whats yours Mine is Frankie Knuckles". gulp!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm like feck off ya fucking with me n he laughed, "No I'm playing next door in the Red box later(The Pod) why don't ya come in! I was in shock! He laughed again n said "did ya not know I was playing"? I just looked at him n laughed n and said No ! (He knew) n he said its ok I did'nt know you were playing either and we both pissed ourselves laughing. I Did'nt know he was playing the main venue next door. Classic stuff. Lesson learned, always know who's playing the venue you are doing warm up for. We finished early that night n went next door to hear a master at work, truely awesome. Frankie Knuckles thank you for making a very awkward moment very funny, being a complete gent and most of all the Music! RIP Clint

If You Had The Chance To Be In A Recording Studio/ What Record
SLAMMINSOUL replied to Rodders22's topic in All About the SOUL
Where ever Lacindy recorded the Man oh man session! Aghmmmm Walter cough cough! Eh that sounded ok that. Is there any chance I could maybe take a cpl of copies of that when its pressed. Its a catchy wee tune that. Yes really ! Sound, top lad ! Cool! N eh I Don't suppose you could play that again there fella. Yes? Appreciate it ! Your a gent. Could ya imagine !! Heaven Clint -
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BT6TyUKcPvI Love is a losing game by Aaron McDonald A record thats still yet to have its day i think? As was said with Buddy Smith earlier, Transports ya away and Mr McDonalds extended lingering on the word love gets me! Atb Clint

The Charles Johnson is an absolute masterpiece in my humble opinion. Never grow tired of listening to it. Literaly find something new in it everytime I listen to it. Its just epic. It has everything for me. My favourite bit is when he sings "my love is shining clear and bright" so simple, Beautiful stuff! Also I always found the use of the oboe at the start of Rose Royce's Wishing on a star very haunting . Stunning tune ! Great thread this, its great to hear what gets to people in a tune. Atb Clint

Hey, Ok I would love you guys to experience what I get from this moment of magic! On the flip side of "Little Woman" by Ronnie West on Goins, in the incredibly soulful Movin On there is a bum note in a sax break about 2/3rds way through the song that will pierce your soul! It makes me shiver every time, just incredible. Its perfection in its inperfection and had to be case of one take n thats your lot. There is also a strange phenomenon I've discovered with this record. Please please please, to get the full effect of what I'm describing play it over the head phones and close your eyes and truely listen to the words. You will be lost in the song by the time that bum note hits ya and it will send a shiver down yr spine. The phenomenon I mentioned is , anybody I have played this for over the headphones, by the time the song is finished and they open their eyes, they all to man/woman make the same rocking motion to the beat of the song. The power of music eh ! Please enjoy n let me know what yee guys think ? Atb Clint

No offense meant fella ! Thats very much a personal thing, you can't make that decision for everyone else. It may have ruined its cult status for your good self even though you love it but I can safely say when I'm listening/dancing to Velvet Hammer I'm not thinking about any other record It will always sound unique and brilliant to my ears. Cult status very much in tact for me! Atb Cilnt -

Congratz to those who had the ear, good taste and foresight to buy it back when it was cheap when nobody was playing it. You also can't expect everybody to like something. I think the dance floor reaction to this record says it all though. No offense meant but its not exactly hard to name 50 or more records that sound better for under 1k, and thats as good as it is itself. The price just reflects rarity. Alot people want this tune and they just don't come up anymore. If you have to have it, you have to have it and we have all been there. Go maith Clint -
And the Buddy Lamp ! Great list Clint

Awesome record. The other side is not half bad either. So soulful Clint

"When i first met you baby, I thought you were meant for me, but little did i know, you had a heart that only loved you " What an opening line! Truely Awesome stuff and an amasing pouring of emotion in this song's story. I had this record, I went to play it one day and as i approached the deck i had the record in my hand and it literaly broke in 3 pieces, 2 pieces to the floor and the remaining bit in my hand. Heartbreaking ! I still get sick when i think about it. Its good to talk, Glad i got that off my chest Atb Clint

Thank you for sharing these two beautiful songs with us. Sometimes, actualy most of the time, less is more! A wise man once said "any idiot can be complicated, it takes real genius to be simple" Yup very nice indeed. Just made my day hearing that. Cheers Clint

Hey ! all good this end! Hope yr keeping well too pal Clint
-
Hi Pete, How much would a Uk Demo set you back these days ? Awesome flip side too btw Thanks Clint
-
Too many question marks over this for me! and then ask yourself, would you play it out anyway or are you just buying it because its rare?(even that is questionable). If you are buying it for the latter then good luck to ya, I personaly would'nt touch it with a barge pole! Which brings it back to taste again. Sorry its not for me! Great reading as always, Knowledge on here is just awesome! Respect n ktf Clint
