  1. Bloody 'eck - we thought we had it bad in Tonbridge. My first job my boss moonlighted as a bouncer in clubs in Chatham, and he tells it just like you - MP's arriving en masse with battons bopping everyone over the head, loading them up in jeeps and taking them back to base etc. before the propper rossers arrived. Apparantly the submarine crews were the worse - having been holed up in a tin for six months they were up for anything once "washed ashore" so to speak
  2. What is it with Cleethorpes and sea front flat developments? My favourite hotel there is also rumoured to be being replaced by flats..... Is someone on the council a property tycoon or summat?
  3. No, no sooner than the owner had left (locking me in) I came to the realisation that his 30,000 untouched records were all Perry Como, Andy Williams, and other assorted garbagio.
  4. Russ - I have been LOCKED IN a record store - does that count? Maybe I should start a new thread "Have you ever been locked in a record store?"
  5. That's exactly the point Mark - they're making money and the noise about this type of stuff is not even getting on the radar. Well done to Pete S and Trevski - Pete S for exposing it in the first place and Trevski for pursuading the buyer not to go through with the sale.
  6. They were really trying to release stuff for the modern soul crowd at the time - you had other labels like Move from Edinburgh doing the same thing. I think sales on most of the Timeless releases were quite low.
  7. You are right - I was saying that Phillip James dad = Phil Flowers as far as I can recall. Dunno where this stuff about the Blues Busters comes into it....They are totally different to the BluesBusters. More than one person with the same name - Oh no bound to confuse! Especially if you don't like 70s / 80's - eh Pete?
  8. Think PF is PJ's Dad from memory. Hans and Harry from Netherlands know for sure because they interviewed Phil Flowers senior a few years back, and unfortunately my memory is swept clean in the mists of time.
  9. I think she's made at least 10 records - one got reissued several times by her or the label but the title escapes my little grey cells at the moment.
  10. I'd add from a 70s perspective: Ann Sexton "Gone too long" - great rhythm guitar and for headbanging.......7th Wonder "Captain of my ship" and the top air guitar 70s sound anthem King Moses "I got the feeling" still nestling high on my wants list.
  11. The LP (yes they made one!) has an interesting cover on it. Looks like a Volcano, until you turn it upside down, and oops it becomes a "Hot bush" so to speak Deffo 2 Step -
  12. Twas the mob that was all over the place at Brunswick. You should read the book "Hit men" an excellent insight into the music business and the Mafia influence over it in the 60s and 70s. As for HB I think he made a lot of money when he was with The Osmonds.
  13. I agree with the others on here - JB probably used them at some point, got them a recording deal, and as a consequence got his name on the records. If you go to Savannah you'll be hard pushed to find a musician who hasn't worked for JB at some time. Ha ha and most of em will tell you they never got paid either

You now know of 3. It was withdrawn a few days after being released, apparantly objections from Invictus I actually quite like it
  15. Thing is I got about 20-30 better records to try and break at the moment.....but agree it's good.
  16. I tried it at Soul Essence a few years back and it nearly cleared the floor Good record though.
  17. Thought you boys would all have one of these It hasn't really made it on the dancefloors to date. One for listening then methinks...
  18. 4 Tops "I Just can't get you out of my mind" "Call me" were the last words I remember When the Spring became December And I still got no reply. Politely I would ask whoever knew you, What is was that I did to you, But they all new less than I" or something like that!! Lambert and Potter magic!
  19. To my mind Eddie's more of a northern guy than a modern guy Col - ex Scooterist etc., though obviously he had the Acid Jazz label etc. and has been involved in producing contemporary music for some years. Never really thought of him as a modern soul jock though.
  20. Agree with you there Steve - one I often play in the record room - never tire of it, though I play the 45 of course . Seems a lot of people actually like the Elipses then?
