  1. No we had our own version in the early 80s' pretty lame and not the same show as Don Cornelius's one, and yes Box set was issued, but it misses some of the best acts and concerntrates on major names. Should be easy to find though......Steve
  2. Yes everytime I get outbid on a heavy item! Initially I am gutted but then my feelings evolve to relief when I start to think that I won't be broke for the next month.....funny old game.
  3. The height of pop in 78. Stopped going and took up at the 6Ts Rhythm & Soul Appreciation Society do's in London.
  4. Sam brought it about 8 years ago from JM auction, and then sold it again.....
  5. It was a Wigan spin for Richard - 33 years ago.... BTW where has the Stanley Evans Phil La acetate gone? I had my eye on it when Martin got it back a few years ago (he had it in the 70's), but he sold it on before I could spurt out the words "When you come to sell it...."
  6. Benny Sigler is a northern one Gordon.....
  7. Marcos, Frank Wilson still holds the record for the most paid for a soul 45 by some way. The rumour at the time was that the last Mello Souls may have sold for around £13k. But only the buyer and seller would know for sure......
  8. .....several rarer Phil La's than either EE or IC's....but as they are not northern "pounders", guess no one is that interested
  9. I remember when we went down to the Rocket once we parked up behind this camper van and it has this "Northern soul is a way of life" transparent sticky thing in the back window . It was rocking from side to side, ordinarily you'd think "bonking", but in this case I think the occupants were dancing in their kitchenette.
  10. Yeah but if it goes back there......do try and keep up , The Mello Souls is in the UK at the moment but may go back to the USA.....and when you go there you have to fill out these little blue forms....."Are you bringing in communist literature, fried chicken or goods to the value of more than $10,000". Not quite the same as crossing the border into Milton Keynes Tezza
  11. Perhaps they were headed off for a weekender somewhere?
  12. A shameless "bump", since this should be another good evening from BBC4......starting in half an hour.
  13. ....Yeah and fill in a customs declaration "Are you bringing goods of a value of more than $10,000 into the United States".....
  14. I know that Chris but would you trust it to ANYONE? Have you seen how these postal operations operate in their warehouses etc? That was my point.....Good to see you at Clee Saturday....
  15. Makes me wonder how these super expensive records get delivered. Hand delivery in the UK, but I mean if the winning bidder is in the US, would you trust the post? What do you put on the customs declaration?
  16. I like Tim, he's a proper collector, with a broad taste in soul music (at least up until 1976 ), and generally he knows his stuff more than the majority. He's also an entertaining writer on the whole. Where he lets himself down is with the digs at Ace / Kent, and what seems like an obsession with the Manship price guide. I've lost count of how many articles Tim has written on the latter subject. .....But generally Tim's a good egg and at his best in print when he's talking about obscure records.
  17. Annie get yer gun! I think the original finder is on a piece of the action.....maybe another middle man or broker involved (local record dealer / intermediary), but I am sure the finder of this isn't going to come out of this with $20 less commission
  18. A non soul bod found it.....and then realised what he had found.........There's gold in them thar rekkids kiddo!
  19. Chalky if we form a consortium.....We can make it!
  20. Yes enjoyed Betty Swann - great to see her.
  21. If you told us what the record was it might help....
  22. has to be a BIG trophy record then.....we all know what's up there in that league.......
  23. Yes and booted, nearly 40 years ago........totally different today when finding a new genuinly unknown record is truly an event.
