More Ns Tat Or Chance To Attract Younger Souls?
Quote from Dave Godin's B&S column in mag #82 (April 72) ........... 'Keep the Faith' is a well known expression that defies precise definition, but over the years gallant little President (of Jay Boy fame) have done just that, and now they have excelled themselves with their 3 volume set "Keep The Faith".

More Ns Tat Or Chance To Attract Younger Souls?
Wasn't 'Keep the faith' what Dave Godin signed off his B&S column with in every issue of the mag back in the 60's !!!! As he was the 1st national guy to highlight the existence of the NS scene I'd guess its true to say ...... A/ That it was a term used by some of those on the scene (at least back in the late 60's / early 70's). B/ Isn't like KOKO (!?!? .... keep on keepin on ... I guess) a 90's phrase.

Bobby Sheen Something New To Do
If the label got early feedback from some influential radio DJ's that the 'other side' was the one they were playing, then they would have quickly flipped the 45 and sent out copies with the original B side marked up as the plug side.

John Harris And The Soul Sayers Now Out On 45
And as I understand matters, if a song is designated as copyright control, the royalties (for the record release & radio plays) goes into a central kitty that eventually gets doled out to impoverished British ex-recording artists (down on their luck). So for all the US recorded UK released soul tracks that were MCPS copyright control, not one penny in royalties has ever found its way to any of those US recording artists. MAY BE WRONG HERE but don't believe I am. That's why US artists need to be signed to a decent label (Ace / Kent, etc) or be represented by Paul Mooney or his like over here.

News: Are Re-Edits And Mash Ups Killing Soul Music?
Not a remix but a new version of an old 1979 G&H penned Jones Girls Philly Int track ......... Shirley Jones (ex of the Jones Girls) & Lacee "I'm At Your Mercy" ....... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N33QwYbFgJ8 ......... AND .. the original version .......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukFLWAMrr2w Must say, I'm missing the trademark 'Jones Girls harmony singing' on the new version though Lacee can certainly sing well too.

John Harris And The Soul Sayers Now Out On 45
- Lawd Doctor - Laurel Aitken & Girlie - Nu Beat. Versions?
Don't know about the tune but the lyrical theme goes all the way back to Dr. Kitch (Lord Kitchener) ........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLJsoaY2NA8 .... AND . I always liked Laren Aitken's Nu Beat take on "La La La Means I Love You".- John Harris And The Soul Sayers Now Out On 45
Bet he (& Bear Family) has no idea where John Harris is today though (or knows how to contact him anymore).- John Harris And The Soul Sayers Now Out On 45
Ian Dewhirst, Ady ..... OR .. Paul Mooney. In foreign territories (such as Germany or the UK for Americans), I think they have to be signed up to a local rep. AT LEAST, American song writers, to get their UK royalties, have to be signed up to the likes of Paul Mooney to be sure to get their cash (I know coz my mate Lou Ragland is signed up with Paul).- John Harris And The Soul Sayers Now Out On 45
Songwriters royalties are always due the writers. Usually all the money goes to the label owner & then he has to pass a % on. That's if Harris & Cook have registered the song with BMI / ASCAP / GEMA or the like ... AND ... that organisation knows their current contact details ....... AND that someone at Kerston / Bear Family wants to try to track them down to pass money along.- John Harris And The Soul Sayers Now Out On 45
You don't need to tell me, tell Bearsy !!!- John Harris And The Soul Sayers Now Out On 45
The group were USAF guys based in Germany in the 1960's. They played together in GI Clubs on military bases in the area for a short while & then moved on with their careers / lives. Their song was written by Cook / Harris, so that will be John Harris himself & another guy in the group by the name of Cook. Apart from that little or nothing is known about this short lived group made up of guys in the military that were posted to a base in Germany at around the same time (probably Ramstein airbase near K-Town aka Kaiserslautern). So ALL you have to do is chase down as US guy called John Harris (or one called Cook) who could be living anywhere in the US (or world) and who was (over 40 years ago) in the USAF. TASK SHOULD BE DEAD EASY ... BUT ... I'll leave you to get on with it yourself- Moses Smith
Jamguy is Frank Lipsius, the son of the original Jamie / Guyden guy who also distributed numerous other labels (Arctic for instance). He will be in the UK (again) in a few weeks with John Ellison. He's available for radio / magazine interviews (he's promoting his big Arctic Records CD/ vinyl package still) whilst here. Anyone interested can make contact with him via me if they like. Whatever info is still around (from his father's old files or from his Philly contacts) on Moses Smith he will be able to pass along I'm sure.- Marvin Holmes & The Uptights
- Savoy Gospel Tracks
A gospel trio (Brenda, Carl & Shirley) who cut in 1976 .......... B. C. & S. with "Sunshine" ............. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnkmaaIo76E- Savoy Gospel Tracks
A female outing from the same year ........... ... Beverly Glenn ... "Lord, Help Me Make It Thru The Night" ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIKXk1yVG3I- Savoy Gospel Tracks
Savoy was a major player in the gospel field thru the 1950's, 1960's and into the 1970's. The label put out loads of great tracks during that period, anyone out there got any particular faves or recommendations. I'll start of with this 1973 cut ...... The Metro-Tones Inc .........
