  2. I plan to do some more as time allows.
  3. Only ever seen a couple of copies of Daniel Maddison and Andy Dyson had em.
  4. Great idea, these topics need preserving and having some focus on them. Do you plan to do every issue Mike?
  5. The photo was from Ty Hunter Jr.... My late uncle Herschel Hunter (far right), Andrew Alonzo and member as the Detroit male vocal group, The Martiniques. Herschel was also an original member of the Hot Wax label mens vocal group, 100 Proof. Herschel was also a later member of The Monitors and The Royal Jokers. Andrew Alonzo says the other guy is Bobby (Mello Yellow) Martin Willingham.
  6. One of the Martiniques joined the Detroit Soul group on facebook and a photo was posted.

It certainly looks like a home made label, not a clean cut. Pink label, black text with matrix is original first release.
  8. Dean Anderson is joined on the Sound of Soul for two hours of great music and chat by Tania J Hamilton and Tony Mee.
  9. Shocked to hear of the passing of John Anderson. A name synonymous with Soul music in this country and Northern Soul in particular. A giant of a man who has done more than most, his record finds far greater than anyone else. Words like legend are more often than not wrongly attributed to people who don’t deserve such praise but John more than deserves the word and many others, legendary he was and he will be sadly missed. My thoughts with his family and friends. R.I.P. John
  10. Hi mate I enjoyed it pal, excellent couple of hours. all good here likewise I trust. Not sure about Grumpy, weekend to work. Lancaster couple o weeks later though.
  11. Great film. We often take motown for granted. We often only talk about the bad things the label did, ripped its artists off, the treatment of its stars etc. We often ignore the fact that it took black music to the masses. So it was refreshing to sit down and watch Hitsviille: The Making Of Motown for about two hours and celebrate the label. Berry Gordy and Smokey took us through the life of the label, you could see the love and friendship they both had for each other as they told us how it happened right from the beginning. It was great to see many of those behind the scenes give us their take and get the credit they deserve. The live footage on stage and in the studio fabulous to see. Of course many didn’t get a mention but you can only do so much and talk about so much in two hours. it won’t please everyone that some didn’t get a mention or the way some artists were treated wasn’t mentioned but I guess celebrating 60 years and the hiys they made isn’t the right time. I would love to see a warts an all series covering everything but somehow I doubt that will happen now, especially with Berry now retired.

Its a monarch press, the x will only be on one side
  13. Christ, surprised this was still here at the earlier price. Bargain here for someone.
  14. There is still no conclusive evidence is there that Magnum was owned by these two?
  15. No one said Talmadge owned both, I only said he owned Highland (the quote is still there a few from the bottom on the previous page). Most of Talmadge’s own releases went through Malynn enterprises so I would assume if he’d had a stake or owned Magnum then Magnum would be the same.
  16. They are all West Coast recordings so not sure whybthey have a Pennsylvania address. previous topic...
  17. Sid Talmadge, Dootsie Williams Talmadge (l): L.A.-based record distributor, and principal of Rush, Highland and related labels Williams (r): L.A.-based producer, songwriter, song publisher and principal of Dootone Records and related labels (nè Walter Williams) with The Penguins (l to r): Cleve Duncan, Bruce Tate, Dexter Tisby and Curtis Williams, at Dolphin's of Hollywood record shop https://www.fineprintheroes.com/main.php?g2_view=keyalbum.KeywordAlbum&g2_keyword=The+Penguins&g2_itemId=1137
  18. Sid Talmadge also owned Highland Records.
  19. If it is the Elliott Shavers I know and have spoken to in the past he didn't keep a low profile, he was a well known Jazz musician and was alive a well a few years ago. Not spoken to him for a few years though.
  20. He was but there is also another Sonny Daye who isn’t Frank.
  21. Not sure it was out and out violence, I was told he was sprayed with fart spray? Seen some of the comments, seen that it was a few sprayed. yet to get a definitive answer from a neutral that he was the sole target. BUT there is no place for bullies and bullying.
  22. OVO was never meant to not include national and foreign releases. Its just others making things up as they go along. There are no sayings that are needed except no bootlegs, the rest are just for idiots.
  23. Yeah, we'll just tell United Artists and Steve Karmen etc we aren't allowed to play the record 🙄

Great article with some fabulous photos and info.
  25. Just because it is a Jobete publishing track doesn’t necessarily mean it is motown and Motown behind it. If Motown didn’t take up the tracks their writers put to them they were quite entitled to use elsewhere and often did. What do you think Frank Wilson and Chris Clark were moonlighting on? Is Frank Wilson credited on anything on Magnum, which artist do you think is Frank Wilson?
