I never implied they didn't but they might have the answers Bearsy wants after all they have to have been in touch with someone to get the rights

John Harris And The Soul Sayers Now Out On 45
If they can't track them they have to at least show they have made an effort don't they and leave something in a pot in case they come forward? Ian Dewhirst or someone will know the ins and outs.

John Harris And The Soul Sayers Now Out On 45
Is Fred Kerston still alive or is it going to his family? Does Kerston really own the rights to everything? Some royalties must be paid to the writers Cook & Harris or their estate I would have thought?

John Harris And The Soul Sayers Now Out On 45
Understand Bear Family are fully legit and one of the best at what they do, wouldn't for a minute accuse them of being dodgy but who have they licensed the track off? Kerston? Harris? Might lead to some unanswered questions if you can find the licensing deal out? I don't have a copy of the re-issue so can't see if that tells you who it is licensed from. off-topic....I have The Beat DVD's, magic stuff.

John Harris And The Soul Sayers Now Out On 45
We know all this, it has been said in this topic and previous topics. Who are The Bear Family paying the royalties/licensing to?

Mid Tempo, Will It Ever Return?
I though we were talking mid tempo though? Plenty of mid tempo dancers played at every all-nighter at all hours including the likes of Burnley after 4am and including when Phil ran it. I can remember the likes of Lonette and Blue Jeans etc being played and it filled the floor. I do agree the dance floor is king but there is no need to discard a whole style of music simply for the sake of it. Plenty of dancers that aren't up tempo 100 mile an hour stompers.

Mid Tempo, Will It Ever Return?
I don't think they have gone away mate. I think some people's idea of what mid tempo and beat ballads differs. You still hear the likes of Tommy Ridgely, Eddie Whitehead, James Lately, Nu-Rons, John An The Weirdest and many more at all-nighters. Maybe not at Kings Hall but even there I dare say they play their fair share. Butch has some great mid tempo in his set, had me up to the decks a few times in recent times. Andy Dyson, Mick H, Kitch, Sam, Arthu Cliff and more still play mid tempo so maybe people should choose their venues a bit more carefully. Even Burnley plays its fair share despite what the uptempo terrorist Terry preaches. Beat ballads is a different case, they have disappeared, not entirely but you might get two a night whereas in the 80's it would be two per set, not as many kind as people think there was. I might go through the Stafford stuff at the weekend and pick out 100 influential/great mid tempo numbers.

Lou D Washington & The Professionals
Yep £25, £30 absolute tops.

Mid Tempo, Will It Ever Return?
I'd put it somewhere in between to be honest Pete. The tempo changes between the two.
-
Mid Tempo, Will It Ever Return?
Your last reply with Freddie Gorman, that's more like a beat ballad,( in otherwords slow) than mid tempo IMO and your highly unlikely to hear many like that at allnighters.
-
Mid Tempo, Will It Ever Return?
But there isn't a lack of mid tempo, beat ballads yes, few and far between but mid tempo is still rife.

Mid Tempo, Will It Ever Return?
I dont know what is confusing about the respective tempos. A beat ballad is self explanatory, it's a ballad with a beat, walking pace basically as far as tempo goes, Romance Watson, Sam Bowie etc. Most mid tempo I know are dancers basically and I would say a large percentage of many Dj's playlists. No grey areas as far as I'm concerned. As said it is a dance scene and the tempo should reflect that however if a DJ knows what he is doing and mixed in at the right time there is still a place for the odd beat ballad.
