Do You Think Northern Soul Has A Legacy?
Handful? Where do you get that figure from? Of course there is a legacy. All the music that otherwise would have been forgotten about it is out there to be heard by other not just associated with the scene. The Americans have now also rediscovered much of what they ignored at the time, that wouldn't have been possible without the UK Northern Soul Scene. The music is also popular all over the world, not just Europe, that wouldn't have been possible anywhere except maybe Japan who bought anything American. Many of the artists have found recognition and a new lease of life thanks to the UK Soul Scene. Even if the UK Soul Scene and as dance scene dies sometime in the future it will have left behind a mountain of music thanks to the DJ's, collectors and record labels like Kent, Soul Junction etc.

Witches
Like Steve i found it unlikely that there are two groups in the same city to use basically the same name and that they are the same group after line up changes. Again as Steve says nothing unusual there, countless groups we know went through changes, not many didn't. The label number put the recording at May 1965 if you look at the discography on 45cat. The name Warlock probably retained by Bert Berns and the Warlock added to carry on at Sew City.

Allanton/ Shotts Allnighters Tunes
Jim O'Hara is writing some words about the Ruff Cutt bunch. The plan is to do an article with him about the nighter with top 20's/30's from the DJ's and I will hopefully doing podcasts of each DJ...that is the plan hopefully. Give the club the recognition it is due. Great nighter, no bollocks just a room full of loons having a great time! Guy's coach's, more like a holiday the time it took Dean Anderson's mini bus.....car trips with Celtic, what happened to him? I will be in touch Andy and Jock.

Cleotha Staples dies at the age of 78
Cleotha Staples, one of the founding members of the renowned Chicago soul and gospel group the Staple Singers, died Thursday at the age of 78. She had been suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease for 12 years, and had been under 24-hour home care. Her longtime caretaker was with her when she died at 11:11 a.m. Thursday in her high-rise condominium on the South Side, according to her sister, Mavis Staples. Cleotha Staples was a vital component of the Staple Singers’ distinctive harmonies. Her soprano voice, which rang out like a bell and descended with a distinctive twang, was among the key musical elements in the family group that sold tens of millions of records and scored hits such as “I’ll Take You There,” “Respect Yourself” and “Uncloudy Day.” Read more at: http://www.chicagotr...,3210098.column and http://www.rollingst...-at-78-20130222 Cleotha Staples, Roebuck "Pops" Staples, Mavis Staples, and Yvonne Staples of The Staple Singers. Witches
If they are the same group, The Witches, Witches and Warlock and the Montells, or line up changes with name changes, then who are Glenda and Ray Jeff Lemlich talks about? I would guess there would be more than one female in Witches and Warlock and just the one male if the "Ray" was involved? Some great info though and food for thought and thanks for the link Tony.

Chris Plant
Cheers Kev. What from that list are actually records he broke? Jesse Davis? the rest seem to have already had plays, either late Wigan or early Stafford...Searling, Rushbrooke and Withers. great playlist though.

Chris Plant
Rod Shard and Dave Withers had Jimmy Wallace first as far as I am aware. Turbines Keb had covered, would that be before or after Chris?

Thanks guys, been a big help.

Witches
Steve does say they went on to become Witches and Warlock and we do seem to have a first name for two of the latter incarnation.

Royal Esquires was Richard Searling and Gary Rushbrooke first wasn't it? Covered up as the Embers "Playing the part of a fool".

Witches
Surfing the interweb, Jeff Lemlich says the Witch was was named Glenda, who had a connection with Enoch Gregory, the Dixie Drifter, a NY DJ? The Warlock's name was Ray. I have read these two names before elsewhere. I always thought Sew City was Matt Parsons label.

Thanks guys, ill probably see Harpo on Saturday so wil have a word. Tony/Steve/George or anyone else, can you remember any tracks exclusive to Chris, ones he broke during the early 80's etc. Heard al the stories about his amazing collection, and some of the prices some were sold for, wonder what it would fetch in today's market? Cheers

Anyone got a contact email address for him? Anyone remember what he was spinning in his sets early 80's at Stafford?
