  3. Didn't think you went anywhere anymore Phil? The topic isn't about what should or shouldn't be played at a soul night or an all-nighter, just simply under-rated records, for whatever reason. And since when has cheap = crap? Not everyone is driven by rarity and value. Some of the worst records played on this scene are expensive. Pure snobbery from many promoters and DJ's. I can't understand why some feel the need to come on every topic and complain about something that is supposed to be a bit of fun.
  4. an old Stafford spin for Steve Smith....will have its day again
  5. and another....
  6. One of my recentish spins..... Ruben Wright - You Done Me Wrong - Capitol Perfect Northern Soul IMO.
  7. Great stuff Bob.
  8. I would think most dealers who were there last time and possibly others would be interested but hard to commit without some idea of when it will be?
  9. We all have individual tastes Grant and it is the diverse taste of us all that make it such a great scene.
  10. Hi can you please read the following topic Mike posted, you must have missed it, thanks. Your "sold" post deleted.
  11. It would be boring if we all liked the same records!
  12. Ey up Louis how ya doing? I think the vast majority if not all anniversary cds are illegal...how many have obtained the rights? I bet it is the same for some of the other anniversary singles as well, not all before you promoters jump down my throat.
  13. I can't emember what year the place became the Winding Wheel. The Winding Wheel nighters I remember were 87 not 81. It used to be the Odeon cinema and there was a nightclub that became the upstairs bit of the Winding Wheel, Fusion or was it Fascination???? They did have the odd nighter there I believe, one of the older town lads will be more specific. The squad went way over the top in 87, searched just about anything that moved yet they only busted one person from all the nighters held. In the end the police refused a licence for the local brass band to blackmail the venue to get rid of the all-nighters.
  14. It wasn't Clarkie who ran the nighter, it could have been Ion and or Tony Smith. I'll have to dig the flyer out, would have been '89ish.
  15. is it more central Mark, easy walking distance of train station etc?
  16. George Lemons is often ridiculed but it rams the dance floor every time it is played, always has done. Maybe it is the records failings that make it so appealing? Maybe dancers just don't care what anoraks think
  17. What I don't understand is there is no room for anything remotely down tempo these days.......or is that just Terry? So why are records like this fetching so much money, are they DJ's or simply collectors? Back then it would probably have been more acceptable although '92/'93was when IMO the scene started to regress back to an oldies mentality.
  18. I have no issues at all and am more than happy to play a Kent Anniversary 45 of an unissued track. Melba Moore is always in my playbox.
  19. I have to agree with you about the Parliaments, as you say Northern Soul perfection!
  20. Ridiculous price really. There's been as few on here recently, one last week for I think £75, week or two before for £120. Still if someone daft enough to pay it......
  21. Arthurs middle name begins with "H". Dunno what full name is though.
