  1. A film about today's seen would be boring, there's none of the capers that used to happen.......no mad coach trips, no fighting local loons, no pinching cars and thats before you got in a venue. Life's much to sedate these days. I'd like to see a documentary done about today though with those who represents todays scene, not the retro scene, but todays proper nighter scene. Tired of seeing the same old relics reeled out to give their opinion on something they are no longer really involved with.

What a dump but it was a great dump!! Some fantastic nights there, week in week out practically and not far from home either, miss the place as it was 1st time round more than most venues, it was ideal. Lifeline began there, sold the place out for the first time, even had to turn some away. The first two or three Lifeline nighters were as good a night as I've ever had and the best nights out since the 80's. One Lifeline didn't finish till the Tuesday once In fact I sure some never left the place New years eve there was brilliant too. The place was ideal, large main room with a great dance floor, second room with bar, food, record dealers another set of decks if wanted and a small dance floor, you never missed a record no matter where you was. I won't go into what happened not on here anyway but it wasn't all down to the Asians as some make out.
  3. The acetate I remember isn't acapella, unless there's a second. One side is the version we all know and love. The flip is the instrumental for about 40 second the band then stops. It starts again from the beginning although a little faster. There are the odd ah ah's then Little Ann comes in towards the end "when I never see him" bit of male backing then "please tell me what to do" bit of male backing then "when he's not around", think she repeats all this. Where's Gilly when you need him......
  4. I agree, see more with the credit although with the credit seems more desirable to some.
  5. It was Gilly and Tats who played the tape to Dave Hamilton. I believe Dave then told them who it was and that the tape was the wrong speed. Gilly and Tats then got the acetate from Dave.
  6. another topic unapproved, less of the off topic rubbish please, stick to the topic and once again type so that others can understand, once or twice funny but then gets tiresome, won't keep asking.
  7. proper English, its the way all members type bar you. Now if you don't mind try and type so that others don't have to spend 20 minutes cracking the code. We have plenty of soul brothers and sisters from other shores who haven't a clue what you are talking about....probably plenty from these shores as well.
  8. do you speak English, or at least type in English? It would make it easier for other members if at least attempted proper English. and whilst here can you please post an intro just to let other members know who you are, thanks Members Shouts and Intros
  9. ditto Mark, the dancers were terrible, back to the podcast now.
  10. I'm currently listening to Curtis Mayfield pin Top Of The Pops 2, 1979, Move On Up.
  11. I'm just re-recording Gary Rushbrooke's second podcast for the Stafford Story so I am currently listen on go that, I'm adding a few tracks to this one.
  12. but as far as he is concerned he is playing a pop record from yesteryear, something to get folk out of bed and on the way to work with a smile I guess, don't see why he needs any knowledge and I doubt the cast majority of his listeners want any knowledge from him. Chris Evans not alone in having his playlist drawn up for him I bet most radio DJ's do, those at the top anyway, even Brain Matthews has a researcher.
  13. Well maybe not calling him name but the reply you gave him, wasn't exactly full of praise for him was it, not necessary nor was it needed. Now stick to the topic please!
  14. Like I said if you have no wish to debate with Jock then ignore him and don't get involved. On this topic I personally found little wrong with his two posts and I don't think they warranted the reply you gave him after he answered your question about reality. I also fully understood his "thank god I'm no longer part of the scene" comment or I think I did. Calling names and insults are not really needed, they are not doing the site any good and take the topics down another route simply causing trouble.
  15. Keep the off topic for FreeBasing and not the Soul Forums please. Anymore problems between Kev, Jock and anyone else then take it to PM's. Anymore off topic will be removed.
  16. On Top Of The World - The Stafford Story.
  17. I will pin this topic and ask that members just use the one topic to pass on your seasons greetings to fellow members. And on that note and personally I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and that 2012 brings you everything you wish for in life, have a good 'un
  18. I actually think some are losing a grip on reality when the playing of a UK chart hit from the 70's (and I know it is a 60's record) on the RADIO causes such a fuss. The same when something is played in the background on Corrie...we all know there are some in the show and probably behind the scenes with a connection to the music, the same at Radio 2, the same at channel 4 or 5, the same in other aspects of the media, hardly surprising then that music from the 60s black america find its way into everyday aspects of life.
  19. If you have no wish to enter debate with someone can I suggest you then ignore them and refrain from name calling? If you have to call someone something in response to a posting then please elaborate. Jock maybe highly opinionated but he does plain his opinions, sometimes a little too aggressively for some for which I would ask to be toned down a little if possible. He was asked to explain his use of reality which IMO he did quite well and I for one didn't see anything egotistical in his reply?? There was no need for the response that followed really, not without explanation. All I ask is to stick to the debate in question without the need for insults or name calling or ignore them, or if you do go down that route then expand a little.
  20. It's not a serious show is it? Just a light hearted start to the day on the radio so what do you expect? I really don't understand why folks get worked up about a record that actually saw release (and was actually a top 40 hit) being played on a radio show, or in the background on a TV program?
  21. I agree with you, much prefer to see some class footwork, acrobats great to watch but in the right places. Haven't time for those who simply throw themselves about the place and I stand there wondering what are they dancing to.
  22. If you want a sound file for any of these sales either shout up or e-mail Andy and will sort one out.
