  1. I'm inclined to agree Pete, it doesn't even have that line in the lyrics. What does SS's book go for these days? Anyone got the scans they can post of some of the other acetates?
  2. I've got a session on tape somewhere, later than 72/74 though.
  3. "Fare Thee Well" I think.
  4. Chalky replied to a post in a topic in Record Sales
Can you do just one topic for your sales, that is four today. You had three merged and then posted another topic. Thank you!
  5. Different takes. Sandbag the one Guy played.
  6. With Gladys Knight on the flip. the "Boot" bootleg had Joe Tex on the flip according to JM guide.
  7. There's a few boots of this, no legit 45 release as far as I'm aware. Advance was another of the boot labels.
  8. I'd wait till it is officially released then get a cheaper copy in the new and used section on amazon. I usually get mine from cheapcddvds or similar shop name, usually a few quid cheaper, they are brand new still sealed btw.
  9. I know what my words were Billy, I wrote them. I used to dance a lot, not these days, the knees are knackered, on occasion I will have a flirt with the dancefloor. The trouble is Billy when ever something like this comes along people feel threatened and have a dig, same with the last film Soulboy. Some of these have far better moves than many long term soulies, you can see that by simply watching them. They have better moves and more energy, not just me but of many other long term soulies and dancers. And I never said it wasn't great to see these kids, quite the opposite, I've encouraged them, they are more than welcome at Lifeline and they will not disgrace themselves either where ever they go.
  10. Two topics merged.
  11. Have you though about contacting dealers directly Mark, not all read everything on Soul Source, some just stick to sales etc.
  12. you can teach anyone to do anything as long as they are willing. They will develop their own style eventually. Most from what I can see doing a better job than many long term soulies. Not like we all walked straight on floor as first timers and did our thing, we all watched others, copied and practised. All involved doing a great job, can't wait for the finished film and hopefully they will all continue with the scene. If they all fancy a night at Lifeline give us a shout and we'll sort summat I'm sure.
  13. Don't think it makes any difference really, many that are instant winners are very soon instantly forgettable but then many that are instant stay with you forever.
  14. There is an acetate, the working title is "Baby Have Mercy On Me".
  15. I do find it a boring track now Nev but probably the fact that it got absolutely hammered that put me off these days. But like you say it's the dancefloor that matters and I don't have a problem with that.

  18. Yogi has confirm that Debbie Taylor is to appear at the Scottish Weekender in Dunfries, November 4th, 5th, 6th. Tickets went on sale for this event two weeks ago and already two hotels (The Queensbury & Best Weston) there have sold out with around 400 tickets sold. The event will bring together some of the worlds top soul and soulful house DJ's over four rooms. Tickets are availble from the main event site at the link below. I have posted this here as many people have told me that they were not aware tickets were on sale, we have constantly updated the post in the events section, but being down on the second page people have not seen it. This is Scotland's first major soul weekender in many years and the response has been fantastic. http://scottishsoulf...p/the-soul-hole Debbie Taylor was born Maddie (pronounced Maydie) Bell Galvin in Norfolk, Virginia. As a young child she sang gospel in her father's church and toured nationally as a gospel singer while a teenager. Recognition led to recording contracts while she was still a teenager. From a brief marriage during her 20's, she changed her last name to Myles. To ensure the correct pronunciation of her first name, she adopted the phonetic version, Maydie. She currently resides in Connecticut where she is still actively singing under her real name, Maydie Myles. More information about her history and current activities can be found on her website, maydiemyles.com. It's believed that Debbie Taylor first came to the attention of Decca records through her church singing. Her first recording with the Decca label in 1968 produced the tracks "I get the blues / The last laugh is on the blues" (Decca 32090) and Check yourself / Wait until I'm gone (Decca 32259). Neither track achieved much in the way of commercial success at the time of their release however today both are much sought after releases which give the earliest indications of a vocal talent that would beguile listeners worldwide. She parted company with Decca and moved to the New York based GWP label Research: Label Discography, http://soulfulkindamusic.net/gwp.htm which ran its affairs from 150 East 52nd Street. Her 1969 debut single with GWP "Never gonna let him know / Let's prove them wrong (GWP 501) was also the launch single for the label. In that year she also recorded the uptempo "Don't let it end / How long can this last" (GWP 510) and a flip side to the Hesitations single "No brag just fact" titled "Mamma look sharp" (GWP 512) which saw her showcase her vocal diversity in a style very reminiscent of the great Billie Holiday's interpretation of Strange fruit. Despite having released three records in 1969 between then and 1972 she recorded and released only one further recording - "Don't nobody mess with my baby" / "Stop" on the GWP subsidiary label GWP Grapevine. In 1972 she left the GWP label and was brought to the Perception / Today label by its then Vice President Boo Frazier and David Jordan. It was during her brief stint at Today that she recorded the seminal soul / funk album "Comin' down on You" with Vice President of A&R Patrick Adams and songwriter producer David Jordan providing not only musical direction in the shape of songs but also with Adams infusing the recordings with a soulful vibe that was to become his trademark. Taylor's tenure with Today was another short stint. It resulted in the album Comin' down on You, and one single released from it. Many regard this as her most productive / prolific period as a singer. Her collaboration with Adams, the then manager / producer and co-writer for label matesBlack Ivory, resulted in her covering the track "No if's, and's or but's".[1] In 1973 demo / promotional recordings on the Polydor label of the Mavis Staples track "I have learned to do without you" released on Volt Recordsin 1970 began to surface. The track was released that year with the flipside "Cheaper in the long run". Commercial success still eluded her and by 1975 she had moved to and was recording with Arista Records. It was during this period with Arista that she recorded what many consider to be the soul single - a track in the classic Northern Soul style. "Just don't pay" backed by a phenomenal vocal performance of "I don't wanna leave you" - both tracks penned by David Jordan.
  19. Didn't JM auction one for a lot more, better nick of course, recently? Suppose question of demand. It was only fetching around £800 when top DJ's hammering it few years ago so can't really understand the willingness to pay such an amount for such a boring record. Got sick to death of hearing the thing at one time.
