  2. I did Russ, not been out of the box for a while but me thinks time for dusting off I thought I'd put this in refosoul but can't find it, give me couple of minutes!!
  3. some fabulous scans and photos in the topics for label/artist of the week, some great info and superb resource available to all at anytime. Keep up the good work
  4. isn't there a version by the Righteous Brothers?
  5. Brilliant Rod
  6. you can listen to both versions on the sounds page of the Lifeline page, link is in my signature. One of my fave 70's tracks and both good takes IMO but obviously only one has the right tempo to play out.
  7. The original is dodgy isn't it? 60s track pressed in the 70s? JM wasn't convinced of it authenticity in one of his guides.
  8. out of interest Shute, what was the offer for Bill Sampson. I've seen it listed lately and I think it was cheap, rarer IMO than the price listed.
  9. and just how many topics do we need about Soulboy the movie?
  10. I can't believe all this fuss over a bloody film, and that is what it is, a film, made to entertain. Dave's post spot on. I'll watch the thing and if I find it entertaining great, if not I'll have wasted an hour and half of my life, can think of worse things to waste it on!

Does this include carvers of unissued stuff? If so practically every dj, including those at the top of the tree are in trouble.

I wasn't insinuating you had passed copies on. I know others did, wide and far.

It was Gavin who recorded the set of Butch's, straight from the system.

they are carved, but sure vinyl carvers call them dub plates? Will have to check. Me and a mate nearly bought one of these when they first came out. Wish we had, we'd be millionaires now

carvers are the only way of getting an unissued track out there and to be honest it's been no different over the years, used to be emi-discs. However if you want better quality Arthur mate go to Timmion, they do metal acetates far better quality, about 25 euros for two sides. Anyway are carvers technically just dub plates? Just the name of one of the companies that does them seems to have stuck.
  17. I had an advance one now that I've seen the scan again, that was one sided but wasn't speeded up, if it was it was no where near as fast as Detroit Prophets one.
  18. It was 4am or so at an allnighter sat in a car but it sounded like the same singer. That makes two 60's takes and this third one. Anyone got a scan of the original acetate? Didn't the Baby Have Mercy On Me come from the working title on the acetate?

I agree with you Rod about cd's but not many venues have a cd player. can't see the point in spending £20 on something that isn't released and can be played off cd, might as well spend the £20 on another record.
  20. It's been around for years but couldn't tell you the first place played. I know Mark Freeman rates this and has played it out. Think it's one of those marmite records, you either love it or hate it
  21. I heard another version t'other week I'd never heard before. funky early 70's feel to it, wah wah guitar (Dennis Coffey?), same lead singer from what I could tell. Who did the plain white label ones, done at the right speed. Don't recall seeing one for ages, not that I've looked.
  22. Think all Mike is asking is rather than post a youtube clip post a refosoul clip which is simple to search for, search box on every page top right, then narrow search to refosoul with the selections across the top. I can do some screenshots for searching as well if you like
  23. The grand daughter of Tommy Navarro replied in a posting of Cried My Life Away. real name Luther Walker.

I would have said 3/400 quid but that looks over priced if one sold for that in dollars.

whatever it goes for is too much, fetching silly prices.
