  1. There are still plenty of records out there either forgotten or already discovered but yet to have their day so to speak. If it wasn't for the so called second rate venues these records would never get a look in
  2. I've yet to see you at venues like Lifeline so how can you give an opinion with regards to type of venue hard core soul nutters or whatever you call them frequent? Your counter opinion is just as bad as those that slag of the ones you are so called defending? As you don't frequent the type of venue hardcore soul nutters go to how do you know the music is second rate Some of your comments make you no better than some of the so called soul police. Like Dave Thorley says go to where you want to go, hear what you want to hear and let others get on with what they want to do and hear.

they should be on a table on the way in/out. Maybe all promoters should think of doing it this way? Word of mouth does influence many but you have to get the info out there in the first place, that's why I believe the internet is far more benificial than flyers these days.
  4. I've been saying for years that there are now too many venues and agree with too many chasing too few but how do you define quality?

3 is out now, four will be next year. The new updated volumes are far more comprehensive with as much info in volumes one and two as there was in the first two volume set.

Karen just bought me volumes 1 & 2 for my birthday, bloody great they are
  7. There's a Gene Allison on ebay HERE slightly different title but sounds like a different song through these speakers Deep flip doesn't sound too bad though.

Hi Mike, Kell Osbourne took literally seconds, no more than 15 seconds from this end. MP3 pro is normal mp3 quality yet less than half the size. I encoded to 40kbps for the Kell Osbourne and it is around Real Audio size but far better quality.

Yopur mp3 could be on the large side? I convert to mp3 pro and they are around 800kb / imeg and they upload in seconds rather than minutes. I'll do an mp3 test of Heartbreaking Truth - Don & Juan which is 2.28 minutes long and converted to mp3 @ 128 kbps.

Misplaced a few scans and mp3's Looking for an mp3 of the flip to Small Things on New Bag, Nothing From Nothing, alos scasns of both sides. Also scans of his Revis and Rayco outings (rayco as Ozzie Osbourne). Cheers
  13. Agree with you Russ entirely. There are some top sounds on the cds and the liner notes are great, the cds are worth purchasing but like I said there are a few tracks that will be of no interest to most soulies.
  14. agree with you Dave, good way to hear something different, worth the money I paid just for the read There are some excellent tracks on the cds, BArbara Stant probably the berst. For those who don't have the cd's, I've scanned the SheepHerders bit from the booklet, photo as well Hope you can read and see it.
  15. They will no doubt have been done using same plates, especially as Cole did them himself. He admitted in a snotty reply to me that the he did 300 for family and friends, these are the ones without the arrangers name on, and that these were never officially released so therefore boots and if wanted a true original they had to get the second issue with arrangers name, it's all on site somewhere. These just happened to be what had stock of and was selling. More have been pressed in recent times, the different version you mention. I remember telling him he at the time he either had a lot of friends or a big family I doubt anything can convince myself or others that anything but the ones with no arrangers name on are the true first prtess and that any others were pressed later after hearing of demand for the record, and after all who can blame the guy.
  16. Personally don't think th O'l Virginia Cds are that good doubt you could make one good one from the two IMO I've listened twice, second time just to make sure I was right in thinking that they were pretty poor over all. Few good tracks IMHO and thats all, and I don't think much of the Sheepherders either
  17. I've seen anywhere between £200 and £400 if this helps.
  18. It will be from the family, Eligah Cole pressed up the re-issues at later date....the original first press is as said.....many times over in several topics. I'm not certain mate but Butch may have one? He did a while back but not sure if he's sold it.
  19. Excellent Dave. Amazes me why records of this quality never make it past a studio disc
