Modern In The Main Room
What was the "modern" in question that Sam played?

Modern In The Main Room
The thing is though they all know that Sam is booked prior to the event, they all know what Sam plays yet still they moan...why not just stay at home, can listen to everything that they wish to listen to then

Modern In The Main Room
Gotta disagree Sam's one of the best dj's about IMO and he should play whatever he wants, as should all the dj's. I thought Stoke now advertised itself as the biggest newies and oldies?

Northern Or Southern Soul
You don't have to travel these days, often several venues within an hour of home, too many some would say and often lacking in quality...thats north and south.

Alternate Takes
James Phelps the version for me although Satin has great vocals but lacks the backing vocals.

Alternate Takes
Are we talking same record same artist but different takes, same record different artist or same backing different vocals or any of these??? How about The Look On Your Face...James Phelps, John Edwards, Satin, Nate Evans & Boss (or Mean Green) & Magnetics.....superb track

Northern Or Southern Soul
The south at the moment has nothing to off me musically that I can't already get or better up north I'm afraid....the north ain't that much better right now since Sheridans closed, left a large hole on the nighter scene. Had two cracking weeks though with the Middleton all-nighter and yesterday the Scotland vs. England all-dayer....looks like there is sod all on next week nighter wise Soul nites though we are probably spoilt for the number although not always choice

Bob And Fred

-
Bob And Fred
Probably not the most soulful of records vocally but it's far more soulful than lots of stuff played on the scene.

Al Scott - What Happened To Yesterday
One of my all time faves is Eddie Whitehead. Guy put me this on tape nearly 20 years ago when he still had it covered up, think I wore the tape out. Al Scott might be rarer but Eddie is far better record IMO

I go some where every week, nighters and soul nights, and I've also heard both Brian and Dave and can honestly say I've not heard them play it...not saying they haven't. But surely more than coincidence that since Butch started spinning it the price rocketed. I also know the demand it created as due to the fact I'm round records most of the time the number of people who asked if either myself or Andy Dyson could get them a copy after hearing Butch play it at places like the 100 Club, Lifeline etc......- Checkmates Ltd - All Alone By The Telephone
A '60s soul group, the Checkmates, Ltd. scored with one big hit, 1969's "Black Pearl." They were fronted by Sonny Charles, who later scored a big hit in the early '80s as a solo act. The group earned some attention for its integrated roster; other members were Bobby Stevens, Harvey Trees, Bill Van Buskirk, and Marvin Smith. They were from Fort Wayne, IN, and were a discovery of Nancy Wilson. They disbanded from 1970 to 1974, then returned for another shot and issued "All Alone by the Telephone" in 1976 for Polydor, which flopped. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide- 6x6
I'm surprised motown wasted a disc to cut the acetate, tis really bad How he got through motowns doors let alone into the studio is beyond me- Johnny Howard - The Chase Is On
he is. Went from a relatively cheap record to what it commands now on the back of him spinning it and the demand it created- Joe Matthews On Kool Kat
Pretty sure although I stand to be corrected. Boots are white demos too I think. - Johnny Howard - The Chase Is On
