  1. Lovely condition copy of this double sider from 1972 on Eastbound demo. £300 + P&P. SOLD. I grade this 45 somewhere between VG++ and M- using Soul Source grading, as I can see a couple of very light tiny marks under good light but I can't hear any when played. Thanks, Steve
  2. Latest one through the door this morning so all seems to be good!
  3. Looking for a nice condition copy of Little Ron Johnson - "I keep telling you" if anyone has one to sell or swap? Thanks, Steve.
  4. Not an instant one by any means, but how about Pauline Shivers - Won't you come back home / Silk - Falling in love isn't easy? Can't seem to post any you tube clips for now but there must be literally thousands of records if you extend this to artists who "sampled" original recordings for inspiration. That's certainly what led to me getting hooked on Northern and Rare Soul, trying to find out some of the original records used then just marvel at how good they were. Stating the obvious I know but can't ignore fact that lots of hip hop / R&B (not the old sort!) / modern soul samples 60's / 70's soul and even some quite good recent soul releases such as Big Brooklyn Red sampling Lowrell's "Mellow Mellow Right On" for their recent "Taking it too far" track.
  5. Make that three of us!
  6. I have to say I've got as much from reading the sleeve notes as I have from listening to the CD a good few times so far. Really interesting thanks Ady and all those who helped you. Steve.
  7. YES ...Postie has just slid down the driveway with precious cargo and I'm currently having a 3rd attempt at trying to get through the plastic covering. Deep breath and kettle on, kids pushed out to play and hi-fi fired up.
  8. Thanks v much for posting these links a few weeks ago. I took delivery of The Fame Studios Story + Hall of Fame CD's yesterday (with pt 2 of Hall of Fame on the way soon hopefully!). Only a quick listen through so far but absolutely amazing soul. A real education / insight into the Fame Studios. All the sleeve notes, photos + overall presentation make these an absolute bargain when you think of the time that Tony Rounce, Alec Palao and Dean Rudland must've taken to pull these together with such passion and interest. There are compilations and then there are COMPILATIONS. Thanks again, Steve
  9. Mark Randle's Modern Soul Musings 2013 I find myself tempted to start once again with mention of the weather here in the UK, but it’s all just a little too depressing so I’ll keep it brief. Suffice to say my thoughts go out to all those affected by the floods after the most recent round of deluges. View full article
  10. Missed these comps for some reason, so have just ordered all four and I look forward to a Deep Soul Dive (or is that Dave) real soon! Interesting post and links, Cheers.
  11. Great. Thanks for posting. Just my cuppa that.
  12. Great read that, and can only begin to imagine how amazing it must've been back then, hearing so many unbelievable records for the first time in such a "had to be there" venue like that. Thanks for posting!
  13. Just listened for first time to the Sugar Boy & Shades of Black 45 quoted above. Love it, but doubt very much in my price range, even if I could ever find one! Personally I'm gonna TRY and stick to affordable records, 60's to current. In terms of current soul, I'll be looking out for more from the likes of JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound (I think their track "To love someone that don't love you" is just sublime), DeRobert and the Half-Truths (eg, "The Joy" is lovely modern feel-good track) Westcoast Soulstars, The Teenagers, Kings go Forth and other great / tight bands like these. Also more new releases from long-established soul artists like Betty Wright...Does anyone know if "In the middle of the game" is going to be released on a 45 soon?! I hope so. Was great performance of this on Jools Holland the other night. All the best for 2012, Steve.
  14. Very sad news, as with so many other amazing influential soul artists, writers etc this year it seems. I can distinctly remember hearing In Crowd and Out On The Floor for the very first time at a school disco circa '82/3 when I was 11 or 12 and listening / watching some older kids dancing "differently" to these and other great records like them. For me at the time stood out clearly as being so much different / better than most of the other music at those regular school discos. I watched and joined in and somehow knew there and then that soul / dance music would firmly be in my life. It remains so and always will. Thanks for that Dobie Gray and RIP
  15. Superb! I look forward to listening to these in the coming days and learning what I missed back then. Thanks v much.
  16. From what I see this will be well worth watching. Sure looks better than grainy footage I have seen of different nights someone recorded in early to mid 70's, which Len kindly shared with me a few months back!
  17. Bit late in getting these, but all landed safely on my doormat this morning, along with some of the recent Hit & Run 45's and some good priced nice original 45's too, so a superb end to the day listening to these a few times over! Thanks for the original post and good to read other comments on these too, even if the separate thread on the Hit & Runs got as bit heated here and there! Cheers, Steve
