  1. I know there are a few soul sourcers from Dundee at least on my last visit there I found a second hand record store next to the Scream pub. I'll be in Stirling on Tuesday and Dundee on Wednesday so where should I be looking for those ellusive tunes people.
  2. Not been on line for a while so this thread is new to me, so forgive me if I bring it back on topic (ish) I don't see a North - South distinction at all its more local than that. Even if you look at the various nights at Sheridens they are all different yet (in the main) well attended. Lifeline to me is the tops but it appears that people who want that type of music policy are willing to (have to) travel further to get it. You can go to an 'oldies venue' almost anywhere yet '6ts newies / upfront venues' don't work in many places. Where they do work they get and following the average distance travelled to get to them is massive compared to the distances travelled to get to most 'oldies events'. Consequently people have travelled from North and South (and the Midlands) usually Where I percieve a slight difference between North and South is in the age profile with the South being slightly younger. Age is an important factor those too young to have gone to Wigan do not appear to be wedded to the 'Wigan Oldie' because it is less about nostalgia for them. The same can be said about those who never left the scene in the 80's be they from the North or the South perhaps people like me have been in the 'newies camp' from the days of the Casino but where I live makes little difference to that other than how far I need to travel to find a venue with the right policy for me. In short I'm glad I live in the North for all sorts of reasons but wish 100 club, Plinston, Sheridans, Wilton, Steam were closer to Blackpool
  3. Hopefully never. However I on reflection at Wigan I would be on the dance floor 95% of the time and the other 5% of the time in the record bar. Now when I'm not behind the decks its it's 90% of the time in the record bar, 5% on the dancefloor and 5% stroking my chin I really need to redress the balance
  4. Has to be 'Itchycoo Park' - the Small Faces

Have to say most people on 'ere will think I'm mad but I love Dean Barlow 'Three Flights Up'. There I've said it and no I am not ashamed

looks suspect to me. I wouldn't touch it
  7. She's a crap shag anyway
  8. I think the three tracks above are perhaps not rare because they sold quite well, locally at least, when first released. Perhaps some people would rebel against such tracks just because of this but never the less the quality wins through. Not sure any one plays 'substandard' sounds just because they are rare its just the view of what is 'substandard' varies a lot. I don't buy records I don't like (well not on purpose, some blind buys turn out to be awful tho) So if I play a record its because I believe in it. Surely this is the only approach to take. I'm also not sure people 'choose' to be into the scene. Once it's got yer there's no getting away. There must be 100's of better ways to spend £x and x hours a year, but because the scene has got me I can't think of a single one.
  9. Well Pete as I always say "You can't educate pork; only cure It"
  10. J J Barnes 'Please Let Me In' Until now I don't think I have heard anyone with a bad word to say about it. Sure someone on here will prove me wrong
  11. I'm not sure you can be an Ex-Soulie in the same way as you can't be an ex-alcoholic (hic).

Meself, Steve McWilliams and Roly were talking about him at the after show party for 'once upon a time' show on Sat. Roly knows his name and he did say Mark I think but I was pissed and had been DJing on the same bill as Guy Hennigan so was a bit emotional He is a bit of a nuisance I know that much. Often in a dogstooth check suit most of us call him shades. He sell memorabillia / badges etc at record fairs as well. I know that doesn't help much but the clues may help someone identify him. A deffinate candidate for the 'Northern Big Soul Brother' house imagine being locked up for a month with him

The Carousel on Plymouth Grove, had a copy of the Jades on Nite Life nicked outta my bag there
  14. Glad you enjoyed it Jimmy Seeing the cast at the 'after show party' at the Boardwalk last Saturday made it obvious they actually enjoyed the music. Because they were new to the scene so to speak they danced to all sorts of wigan stuff, covering all eras of the venue, with no preconcieved ideas. A bit like most of us when we first got into the music I guess.
  15. Maybe Fox News would be interested in this since the last one was erased before thye could see it pmsl
  16. I got the need from Chuck The Panic is On from Roy Both different in style but for me Panic shades it unless of course you actually want people dancing
  17. So people when and where would you go if you could have one return trip in the tardis. I think the spring of '67 Waxie Maxy's in Washington DC would do for me. Before it burned down in the riots of the following summer I'd need to rescue all those unwanted 45's of course. What about you?
  18. Not sure how many of these I will fit into the 'Once Upon A Time' after show party tommorow night (if any) but these are in my top ten at the mo even. Can't get away with em at lots of venues tho. Moses Dillard 'I'll pay the Price' (Mark IV) Steve Mancha 'Friday Night' (Groovesville DJ) Martha Starr 'No Part Time Love For Me' (Thelma DJ) Gary Haines 'Keep On Going' (Sound) Rose Batiste 'I Miss My Baby' (Revilot DJ) Eddie Hill 'You Really Got The Best Of Me' (Thelma DJ) Delletes 'Look at Me' (Blue Rock) The Athens Rogues' 'She Could Love Me' (Stop DJ) George Freeman 'Down and Out' (Valiant DJ) Clarence Reid I'm Your Yes Man' (Wand DJ)
  19. £50 in Tims guide can't remeber seeing one out in a box for ages tho

I agree it sells at £10 stays in the box at £20. I also agree it is a top tune and should be worth five times that. Why it isn't I only wish I knew
