  1. The "less common" Hi soul LPs from the late 60's - early 70's all usually fetch relatively substantial prices when they are listed on ebay, especially when they are sealed or are in top condition. Three in particular are the Ann Peebles LP mentioned above, her husband Don Bryant's only HI LP, and Al Green's "Green Is Blues" LP with the first sleeve design that was soon withdrawn by the company.
  2. I think Soul Source's world famous No 1 record spruiker, Sebastian, got a bid approaching that sum on his ebay sales last year ....
  3. What's the current value then of the UK Deram 45 ?
  4. Has this ever gotten any northern spins ?
  5. It is LP only and the original LP is certainly is much harder to get a hold of than you would think, especially as the funk crowd also started showing interest in it once it was compiled on the SoulJazz double LP a few years ago, not to mention the fact that there has always been a solid and dedicated band of American gospel record collectors, especially for the Chess series. Since I've Been Born Again is, by any reckoning, a fantastic record, proper stomping northern with the full force of the Chess studio backing !
  6. That'll do, any country is fine, as long as it's 7" vinyl !!!
  7. Mascara - See You In LA - UK Mercury 7" Thanks !
  8. Well said Bri, Chicago's original is the best by far. And if Chicago's "Saturday In The Park" had been released on a tiny Chicago indie label in the early 70's it would have become a northern biggie sooner or later ... that's for for sure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwryFOYTKac
  9. One of the major reasons that I love soul music as much as I do is for the very distinctiveness of the voices of most of the great soul singers: whether they be baritones tenors falsettos sopranos contraltos and so on, northern sophistication or southern bluesiness, east or west coast. Tyrone Davis, Eddie Kendricks, Marvin Junior, Linda Jones, Gladys Knight and so on ... as soon as they sing the first note you know exactly who it is ! And Esther Phillips is one of those too , just fabulous !

We've had a few threads over the years here on Soul Source about who is/was the greatest male and female soul/RnB vocalists. While the jury remains out on the the male side , on the female side Aretha is way out ahead of the rest, no question, with only Gladys Knight in the same stratosphere. and then a slew of well respected songstresses like Betty Harris, Doris Duke ... Well, actually, as far as the guys are concerned, no doubt in my mind either, said it before , and I''ll say it again, David Ruffin was the greatest.
  11. What did this fetch when Mr Manship auctioned it ?
  12. Also interesting to keep in mind that until '66 those two Temps LPs and other select Tamla Motown LPs were issued in Australia with the exact same imported UK sleeves (manufactured by Garrod & Lofthouse as stated on the back) ALTHOUGH the label and vinyl were made In Australia .
  13. The LP is creeping up in price because the funk crowd is picking up on it.
  14. I've got this LP and yes it's great and you're looking at upwards of $1,000 US to secure a copy ... if yu can find one ...
  15. 45 or LP Chris ? Many hardened colletors are still unaware that an LP was released on Sundi including "I'm Not Responsible' and several other equally stunning cross over tunes . Far rarer than the 45 ! https://www.popsike.com/ALEX-BROWN-In-Search-Of-Love-SUNDI-LP-Rare-Soul/4030950724.html
  16. What's the current value of this beauty on Stomp Town ?
  17. Dave, John Rowles on an Aussie MCA label 7" from 1969 is by far the best .. and rarest version of this tune ! The Aussie release is a much faster and ballsiermix/take than the US Kapp 7" release .
  18. Gene Redding or First Class !!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!??????????
  19. Tony , Zingara's version is nice but Garland Green's version on Ocean Front is achingly soulful ....
  20. QUOTE : Friends of Distinction – Long Time Comin' – RCA DJ £50 Uptempo rare dance version of Michael Braithwaite Great! The Friends of Distinction record (called Long Time Coming My Way) has absolutely nothing to do with the Mitchell Braithwaite record on Probe which is called "You've Been A Long Time Coming" and it's Mitchell not Michael
  21. 'Tis indeed a tough LP to locate Dave ... I thnk soul collectors still often don't fully appreciate how difficult some of these unique Japanese soul LPs from the 7Ts and early 8Ts are to locate.
  22. Sorry to hijack your thread Bob but another related question for Dean: Dean, did the Temprees track "Whole Bit of Love" off their final We Produce Lp ever find its way onto a 45 release?
  23. The LP is very sought after too .... as is the Bad Breath LP ... with soul collectors and also funk and mod/jazz/latin guys ... you'll do well to get good copies on ebay for less than $250-300 US
  24. Need the vinyl original please, preferably the 12" rather than the LP. Not on 45 to my knowledge .... unless someone has it on some obscure Euro vinyl 45 !!!
