  1. That should be Bill Head rather than Roy Head ??? It's on a Texas label where of course Roy Head recorded with Duke Records. Always wondered whether it is in fact Roy Head under an alias around the time he was in dispute with Duke. Doesn't the legend go something like Don Robey cheated Roy out of all the money made from Treat Her Right and Roy told Robey to get fcuked ...... (of course Robey cheated every artist he had!) . By all accounts , Roy Head himself was one mean hombre and took no sh?t from anyone, not even Robey ! Great gritty stomper anyway. I've been advised by the few people that know the record, that it is quite rare. So, what is it worth ?
  2. It's a surprise that the two records that Pete Smith says aren't cack are (nominally speaking) 70's/modern records !!! Will Collins and Reuben Howell !!!
  3. Mark , are these just playlists onn the various websites, or can we actually listen to soundclips of individual tracks and whole shows?
  4. Please can we have refosoul clips of the tracks mentioned in this thread ? !!!! You know, some of us live in far flung soul-less places outside of the UK scene and we don't have the means or access to buy or investigate these recent tunes Start posting please !!!
  5. I guess other big instrumentals (before instrumental - mania became silly) were things like King Errison "Zola" and of course the greatest northern soul instrumental of all Young Holt's " California Montage "
  6. Was speaking to some old timers from the Torch & Mecca days and they say that, in the early 70's, this Crusaders instrumental was one of the biggest sounds around for a time. This was a time, I guess, when the scene played quality instrumentals for their musical merit ... before things got silly a few years later. Anyone with any thoughts or memories of this Crusaders track?
  7. No mate, just being curious ! It's just that I'm in Sydney and this guy is "known" around the traps here , so to speak. The record collecting scene Down Under is much smaller and incestuous than in the UK .... I know you have excellent taste in music so was just wondering what you snapped up Did you get Aussie label stuff ?
  8. Sean, what record(s) did you get off him ?
  9. BILLY HAMBRIC - SHE SAID GOODBYE
  10. Godoy Colbert's "Baby I Like It" on Revue is equally as good, uses the exact same backing track as Len Jewell ..... .... and the flip side of the Godoy Colbert 45, "I Wanna Thank You" is a superb slice of mid tempo soul that deserves playing. Always wondered though whether Len Jewell and Godoy Colbert are one and the same persons?
  11. [ Reuben Wilson - Got To Get Your Own - Chess
  12. Lindy Stevens also had an LP released on Decca which contains Penny Gold. Doesn't matter if it's not soul, it's a great pop record, great to dance to .... and it's no less a soul record than Johnny Caswell !!!!!!
  13. Benny Gordon LP only version of Tighten Up ?
  14. Some people ..... loads of cash being paid for this 45 with shockingly bad versions of two classics on this ebay item with sound clips !!!! Have a listen ! https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=013
  15. Both mint UK demo and US demo needed of this tune. Anyone ?
  16. Gene, interesting about the James Lewis - Manifesto . We had a topic last year on the various forms of originals and boots of this. Mine looks like the one you have posted up, definitely an original, at least I've always thought so ?
  17. What's Connie Laverne's House For Sale like ? Anyone got a clip of it to listen to ? Is this the same Connie Laverne as on GSF in the US with Just Cant Live Without You ?
  18. Purely being curious here ... and I know we had a thread that touched on this some months ago, but which ebay id names are actually established record dealers buying up constantly and over bidding other collector only bidders ? Not making a moral judgement on these people, business is business after all, just curious who they really are. Isn't "rivalino" one of them? Who is he/she?
  19. The other thread prompted me to start this one. How about soul singers with downright strange or unusual voices, or vocal styles ? First that comes to mind is Roshell Anderson. Judging from what was written in Blues n Soul about him at the time in the early 70's, he caused a bit of stir when he surfaced with his LP on Sunburst , Contempo in the UK .

  22. Don't forget "I Can't Get Over Losing You" by the boys!
  23. Bit of interest on this one, a Swedish Columbia pic sleeve 45. https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=017 Georgie's superb version of the Spinners classic, almost as good as the original ! Have the Sweet Things LP on Aussie Columbia, but no 45 issued in Aussie. Was his Sweet Things track not issued on a 45 in the UK ???? Any other Euro countries issued it as a 45 apart from Sweden ????
  24. Sunnysoul posted a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
That's right Tony, and HBR even released an LP on TV & the Tribesmen which is packed with great RnB tunes ...

While we're on the subject of Barefootin, there's a great version by TV & the Tribesman, released by HBR Records on the US West Coast I believe in an attempt to steal Robert Parker's thunder. TV's version got a release on Aussie Astor . Can UK label collectors on here tell us if TV got a UK release?
