  1. Have a look at seller sleevie-wonder on ebay. Seem to be plenty of options...
  2. Can any weekend Soul Sourcers help??!!
  3. Hi all... Looking for a copy of: NINA SIMONE "I Put A Spell On You" (Philips) LP The one with "Take Care of Business" on it. I know it turns up on ebay, but I'd prefer not to pay US shipping costs, import tax etc etc - if there's someone in the UK with a nice copy. In fact, a UK press on Philips would be very nice - but really, any nice copy would suit me just fine. Any help appreciated...
  4. Don't think anyone's doubting if any of them are "legit". Just what is acceptable to the soul police. Must say, i've always thought the audio on the 100 Club 45 was fine, gonna have to buy the new one to see what i'm missing...
  5. Have you not found a copy of the rule book? It's a gilt leather bound five volume box set edition. Essential reading if you feel the need to conform to an imagined expectation... As far as I know, Horaces was the first release. 100 Club single next. Then recently issued on Kent. It's an unreleased track which has been played to death, so I don't think anyone really gives a hoot what you play it off.
  6. Thanks Steve, duly pm'ed...
  7. Hey y'all. Just missed the copy of Gil Scott Heron's "Lady Day and John Coltrane" on Soulstacks list. So, if anyone can sort me with a nice copy for £50, I would be most grateful. Ta!
  8. For sale: THE ELGINS "Darling Baby" (UK Tamla Motown STML 11081) VG/EX £25 inc UK P&P Rare UK soul album, valued in my Record Collector Price Guide at £90. Looks like £50 might be nearer the mark. This copy looks to be in nice shape and plays great BUT it skips on track B2 "634-5789" (there's a tiny scratch you can hardly see). Sleeve in solid EX condition. PM if interested. Darling Baby 2:34 In The Midnight Hour 2:12 Heaven Must Have Sent You 2:40 I Understand My Man 3:07 Good Lovin' 2:38 It's Gonna Be Hard Times 2:23 Put Yourself In My Place 2:25 634-5789 2:25 No Time For Tears 2:53 How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) 2:52 Stay In My Lonely Arms 3:01 When A Man Loves A Woman
  9. For sale: LP The Isley Brothers "Tamla Motown Presents..." (UK MFP) EX/EX £15 (inc. UK P&P) SOLD! The only official vinyl release for one of the greatest soul tracks of all time - nice copy, with free postage in the UK. PM if interested...
  10. They look quite revolting, don't they?!
  11. The great flipside "Love Your Pain Goes Deep" is slightly different on both copies. The Gamble one has added strings, the Sassy one doesn't. I prefer it with strings, others prefer it without...
  12. Remember the holy trinity before leaving the house: 1) Slipmats 2) Needles 3) Centres Oh, and headphones. The holy trinity plus one. Oh, and don't forget your records. So, that's the holy trinity PLUS headphones PLUS your records...
  13. For sale: KIKI DEE "Patterns" (UK Philips) EX/EX £25 (inc. UK P&P) Lovely copy of this rare UK album featuring "On A Magic Carpet Ride" - has sold on ebay for up to £50, so nice price. PM if interested...
  14. Why would you NOT send a $600 record registered? Totally love this record...
  15. Surely it's impossible to equate musical content and financial value? Can you ever really listen to a piece of music and think, oh, that's a two hundred quid record. Anything over a fiver is purely down to a complex algorithim based on the quadruple factors of demand, quality, condition and rarity. Obviously this one ticks all four boxes.
  16. If they'd bothered to clean the Family Of Eve they could maybe have charged, ooh, $4 for it...
  17. Last time I saw Sharon Jones perform, she had just found out that day that her mom had died. But she went out onstage far away from home and belted out an amazing heartfelt performance. An incredible lady, and an absolute ball of energy. I'm sure she'll just bounce back from this, wishing her all the very best...
  18. You can still buy Soul Spectrum LP with bonus 45 direct off the Jazzman site: https://www.jazzmanrecords.co.uk/v2/prodtype.asp?s=fxku7f617921&strPageHistory=category&numSearchStartRecord=0&CAT_ID=51&numRecordPosition=3
  19. Don't think that's what I'd call a dish warp. That's just a common or garden warp, hard not to notice. A dishwarp is when the outside rim of the whole record sits higher (or lower) than the middle - hence, it's like a bowl - or dish and it wobbles about on the turntable. It's not a huge problem if the middle is sitting higher, cos the whole edge sits on the deck. But if the outer edge is higher, then it slips about because it's not actually sitting on the deck. Is that clear? Err, thought not...
  20. You can see the difference in colour on popsike: https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=hymes+frederick&thumbs=&currsel=&sortord=ddate&x=0&y=0 And they all come from the same seller - I got one of these, and when it arrived it was the dark orange. I think it was just a duff scan which got used over and over for the auctions. And it looks like these ran out in 2007. Who knows, I suspect this won't be the last post on this record anyway...
  21. Now, which topic has cropped up more often? 1) is it okay to play a carver at an ovo night? V 2) has Frederick Hymes been booted? My opinion on the eternal debate is... If Butch hasn't seen it, it doesn't exist!
  22. My understanding is that acetates are cut which get negatives made, which are in turn used for the actual vinyl pressing run. I think these copies are not made to be played and this is where the stuff about not playing them comes from. I also believe the sound deteriorates. Slightly. On the top end after a few plays. I think after this initial deterioration, they pretty much stabilise and like most posters on this thread, i've got 50 year old discs which play fine and continue to do so...
  23. Well, if the dealers go out and spend it on new cars, champagne, caviar, holidays in Skegness then it's all good. The record in question was sold on commission, no doubt, so sure someone will be happy with some spare cash. But I've got a feeling whoever bought it WON'T really be feeling the pinch of the recession...
