Wanted: Jackson 5 Album
Well, probably NOT a good time to be buying Michael Jackson records (with Thriller hitting new heights on ebay!!!!) BUT... Can anyone help with a 1979 (?) album by The JACKSON FIVE called "Boogie"? It's on the Motown spin-off Natural Resources label, and I'm not too bothered what country it's from - usually Canadian, I think... Any PMs much appreciated. TA!

This week's Manship results perlease
PHEW! Normal service has been resumed at last... ah, I remember getting that Lou Pride single in a Soul Bowl pack back in the old days. It was all fields round here, you know...

Gene Williams
The flipside of this is a pretty decent funk track "Do It Good" and from memory the red label has a live version, and the yellow label is a studio version. So it could well be that both titles are equally rare, but the yellow is more sought after. Pretty sure there's other versions of "Don't Let Our Love Fade Away", by other artists on Forte (maybe Lee Harris?)- but the whole catalogue seemed to get recycled regularly... there was a discography on Fryer's Funk Board, but it seems to have vanished.

This week's Manship results perlease
As previously mentioned, the reason people auction records with John is because it's evident the high prices he achieves. If nobody can see the high prices... where's the incentive to sell with him? I'm not so sure I'd be rushing to sell through a JM auction now, but then again... I don't have any Soul Bowl packs from 25 years ago.

Tunes Originally Released On Local Labels And Then Re-Released On A Motown Label
I remember seeing MAGIC DISCO MACHINE "Control Tower" on a weird looking label, assuming it was a bootleg. But perhaps it was licensed in? Not exactly your typical Motown sound...

Patti Jo Make Me Believe In You
Eh? It's about twice as long - the first half being totally instrumental? I remember it being about 8 minutes long or something. I'll need to dig it out - on a comp "Disco Gold" with another Patti Jo disco mix. Yup, you need to pick up her other 45 too...

Current Prices For These Lps Please - Anyone?
Motown Memories 80s? Nah! It's got a flipback sleeve - just checked and it's a "proper album" from 1968. And also features Barbara McNair "You're Gonna Love My Baby", R. Dean Taylor "There's A Ghost In My House" and Mary Wells "When I'm Gone". I'm guessing these weren't played in clubs at that point - for a compilation it was pretty much before it's time?

Best Song On Philadephia International
Can't believe no-one's mentioned McFadden & Whitehead "Ain't No Stopping Us Now". Well I can - it's super cheesy, but a big favourite of mine...

Dancers And Collecters
Do you know what - I think this COULD be a very subtle twist on the tired old debate. Okay, originals v boots - YAWN! But punters dancing and caring? I've noticed on a few occasions dancers doing a weird, backwards shuffle - when they get near the decks, do a quick spin - check the single playing is, indeed, an original and then shimmy back into the middle of the floor - satisfied it's not a re-issue. I've also witnessed a dancer coming up to the decks, mid-song (and mid-dance) to ask "oh, I didn't know that came out on British" - "it didn't, its a re-issue" - to see the dancer promptly stop, and walk off and sit down... [it wasn't me playing the re-issue].

Ben E King Acetate
EMIDISC has nothing to do with E.M.I. though - it's just a type of acetate. Like in the US they're usually AUDIODISCS or whatever. They might press up titles to try and get publishing deals or just played on the radio. There's plenty of odd artists end up on EMIDISC - it's just impossible to tell if they were pressed up legit or for punters to buy at Wigan... Having said that, £299 is perhaps a bit ambitious for this...

Archie Bell & The Drells
Well, I hate to just come right and ask "what is a current price for this" - so I'll disguise it with a "did this only come out in the UK on 45" and ask when it started getting plays. And hopefully, someone might just join in with the discussion with a current valuation!!!!
