There's a Jazzman compilation CD of the Saadia label coming out soon ("Good Things"), maybe concentrating slightly more on the funkier side, but still some great soul... Little Beaver, Pearl Dowdell, Joey Gilmore etc.

While cycling to work this morning I was horrified to see a postman waiting at a bus-stop SITTING ON HIS MAIL BAG. Of course, my first thought was "there better not be one of my records in that bag..." Mr. Hydepark Records - 1 in every 50 records broken is NOT a good percentage.

I felt like a bit of a twat after meeting the diminutive Evie Sands - my mind went blank and all I could blurt out was "I'm a really big fan". She looked up and agreed, "yes, you are, aren't you!" We still email from time to time, lovely lady and a truly great voice...

I can't stand 80s soul, but for me The Staple Singers "Trippin' On Your Love" is one of the best songs ever. Maybe because it sounds 70s...

Think it originally came out on a Phil Spector "Wall Of Sound" compilation - there were about 7 volumes in the mid 70s (Crystals, Ronnettes etc.) and a few compilations. Jim, Thanks so much for posting those up, very much appreciated. They're both totally different takes. The version of "Just Can't Get Enough" I have features fuzz guitar, and doesn't have the brass sections, so it's obviously a demo. "I Want A Guarantee" (the unreleased Maxine Brown song) was in the same batch, and it's a very similar arrangement...

A while back I posted "An Idiot's Guide To Acetates". Two of them are "Nobody's Baby Am I" and "Just Can't Get Enough Of You", so I'm presuming these are by The Apollas. Can anyone post up soundclips of the single on Loma (both sides if possible) so I can hear if they're different versions (possibly Valerie Simpson demos) or the released versions. Any help greatly appreciated...
