  1. Love David Huff 'Mary Brown' as you know Ian - rarely off my turntable last year, though maybe not immediate or black enough for some Couple from me worthy of more attention IMO, both on Jubilee:- Jimmy Ricks - The long long arm of love Don Gardner - I'm in such misery Cheers, Chris
  2. If Paramount Four is one of the best discoveries of recent years this has to run it close Wonder why it was canned? Top notch production, strings, etc - no bargain basement recording
  3. It does appear on that big list of Mecca spins on Colin's website though
  4. Great responses on here - anyone add some more M's tunes? The more eclectic the better
  5. Great stuff, thanks - a lot of Wheel / 6t's type sounds I guess. Presumably the more poppy white stuff like Spencer Davis or Frankie Valli 'Opus' would have been played in some more mainstream clubs as new releases and were revival sounds at Mr M's?
  6. Been re-reading this excellent thread and this post stood out If you went to Mr M's what tunes do you remember always being on? What about the blue eyed stuff like Paintbox or John Fred that seems to be forgotten now? Really interesting to hear what was played Cheers, Chris.
  7. Also Dushons ' You better think it over' is a clear re-hash of Martha & Vandellas 'Nowhere to run' - in fact you could sing nowhere to run over the top of the Dushons!
  8. Always thought this was one of the most blatant ones - Christine Cooper 'Heartaches away my boy' quite clearly lifts the main piano / vibes riff from Supremes 'Stop in the name of love' from the previous year - surprised they got away with it
  9. Dave, I'll have a set of 66,67,68, 71 and 72 please if still available Cheers, Chris.
  10. What version by Jimmy Delphs - is that unreleased too?
  11. Been wondering about this since it was on one of the first 'Soul Girl' clips - absolutely love it. Funny for them to use such an obscurity - what a tune though.
  12. A few more from me:- 1) Arlean Brown - I am a streaker (1974 Dud Sound) - brilliant lyrics 2) Rhythm Combination & Brass - Mr Clean (MPS LP) 3) The Bamboos - Tighten up (Kay-Gee) - Keith Money spin from a couple of years ago - awesome drum break
  13. Funny - I always thought the same about this one - Don Covay 'Money' from Super Dude 1 album (Mercury)
  14. Richie Havens - I Can't Make It Anymore (Verve Folkways DJ) Ex £80 Could do with the money so reduced to sell! 15. Richie Havens - I Can't Make It Anymore (Verve Folkways DJ) Ex £100 Vinyl nice and clean apart from a few light marks NAP Labels very clean apart from small (1cm x 1.5cm) sticker residue on top side The version Youtube clip not my copy - for info only PM if interested / Paypal as gift Cheers, Chris.
  16. And if there is additional archive footage that hasn't been seen would it be possible to get access to it?
  17. Thanks for posting this interesting clip I know this is going over old ground, but is the Wigan clip about 4 mins into the Manchester feature from a different TV programme to the one I have posted below (which I thought was from a Something Else special on different dance clubs) and if so which programme? Also if the BBC or whoever did the Manchester piece are able to pull these clips from the archives, is there additional footage that hasn't been seen? It looks more like a proper night than the Something Else one which if I remember right was filmed during non-club hours
  18. Nice version - like the vibes near the end, but not a patch on Flowers IMO File Flowere alongside Bobby Reed 'Time is right for love', or Richard Caiton 'Near you' - tunes that demand attention
  19. Running out of superlatives - just fantastic, one of my absolute faves - wonder what happened to her? Cheers, Chris.
  20. Meant to ask, where on earth did you get the footage from? I know Playboy After Dark but where did that turn up from?
  21. Just fantastic - thanks for posting. The wonders of t'internet

Love this one that he co-wrote and played on:- From Al Robinson wiki:- Robinson continued to record in his own name and as a session guitarist. He moved to Los Angeles, and recorded "Let Me Down Easy", written by King Curtis, for Atco in 1967.[1] He also began playing with Dr. John, and appeared as a guitarist on the albums Babylon, Dr. John's Gumbo, and Hollywood Be Thy Name,[1][6] as well as co-writing several album tracks with Dr. John. As a solo performer, Robinson recorded for Harold Battiste's A.F.O. and Pulsar labels; one of his recordings for Pulsar, "Sho' Bout To Drive Me Wild", featured contributions from many New Orleans musicians including Battiste, Dr. John, Jessie Hill and King Floyd.[
  23. Absolutely - someone should ask him again. I think his new book is just the Liverpool music scene (Eric's, etc)
  24. Sorry yes - we didn't discuss figures but that was what he meant
  25. I meant the 100+ that no-one has seen - only Francesco currently has access to them
