Swapsys
Still struggling with the etiquette of how this will all work - I'm sure a 'right way of doing it' will work itself out! Don't fancy haggling in view of everyone, so I guess PM will be best for that, although letting the thread know you have a copy might also prompt someone else who wants it to contact you etc etc etc So, in this case, I'll kick off by saying I have an Ex US 45 of Three Pieces that i'd like to swap Wouldn't mind the Ron Kenoly but don't believe that's a straight swap..................... The rest I guess we can do with PM? We'll get there in the end with this new sub forum I'm sure - looks an interesting variation on simply selling stuff AS a lot of stuff in the sales section ended up being trades anyway! Cheers Steve

Trades/swaps Section?

Lp's Info
I think there is a market for a 'John Manship' type price guide for Soul & Funk LP's........................maybe Mr M himself should do it? How 'bout it John? Might give the LP market a much needed boost (I haven't really got thousands of LP's for sale) btw £30 for The Heartstoppers is literally giving it away (other great tracks on it too!) BUT like you said, no one wants 'em! Cheers Steve

Jm's Auction

Modern Rooms
aye, the 'third way' is certainly NOT a get rich quick scheme that's for sure Definitely smaller (but beautifully put together ) Promotors of 'third scene' gigs certainly don't do it for the money Cheers Steve

Modern Rooms
Nice one Dave ALWAYS appreciate a free plug and big up As a DJ who's been on twice at The Orwell this year, I'd say that your playlist epitomises what we and other like-minded events are all about! In fact your great balanced sets (especially at the anniversary in March) was exactly what i was talking about earlier! Does that equal things up mate Cheers Steve

Tired 70`s Tunes...?
It's a shame cos imho most of the records mentioned in this thread are great (with the odd exception 'cough' Pioneers ) The problem is, when you look at the dance floor it's usually packed when one of these is playing, so it's difficult to blame the DJ! What bothers me personally, is when they are trotted out one after another! To me, that's the DJ just being lazy! In a dance floor driven scene, they are always going to be needed to pep up a dance floor BUT that's when the DJ should be looking to play summat different once he's/she's got them up! So, to me, hearing one or two 'overplayed' oldies in a set is no biggie as long as it's balanced with something semi-known, different or simply 'underplayed' btw Just got what i consider to be a future 'overplayed' 70's classic!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't know much about it at the mo' as it's unreleased and I have no idea who it is etc BUT after a number of plays, i'm convinced it's gonna be a biggun and (hopefully) one everyone will be moaning about hearing all the time in the future Cheers Steve

Modern Rooms
Just for the avoidance of doubt, I don't see the Orwell (or The Greatstone for that matter) as 'Across the board' OR 'Modern' venues! Being a one room venue we do play a wider range of tuneage BUT not 'truly' across the board! I'd say late 60's to early 80's (at a push) are about the limits! Mainly late 60's/early 70's Crossover, mid/late 70's modern soul, quality 60's & a few late 70's/early 80's steppers! I know this isn't exactly what this thread is about BUT these one room events are a kind of 'third scene' that have a life of their own. Look around the country, there's quite a few that have sprung up around the place nowadays! Cheers Steve
