Happy memories someone?
Had this in a drawer from a record I bought some time ago, came to the top again toady and the thought crossed my mind did it have happy memories for someone, realise its a very long shot they are likely to be on here, the "you" on the signpost has always intrigued me, girlfriend perhaps 25 miles away? Mods feel free to move, did wonder about Freebasing.

Soul Connected Films - Cream Of The Crop List...
Most of the obvious already mentioned, I'd nominate Green Book if not for the music for the social aspect ,saw an episode of the American Pickers where they picked from a hotel that was in the actual Green Book.

Movies and Tv
Twas me Mal, glad you liked it, I have a collection of World Cinema dvds many of which I'll probably not watch again so if you come across anything mentioned on this thread or elsewhere if I have them you're welcome to those as well. Bear in mind I haven't bought any for some years so most are I would guess prior to 2015, might have some later ones though.

The soul scene
We've only been to an event twice since lockdown, both birthday celebrations, one was a one off purely for the birthday playing a diverse selection of music the other piggybacking on a regular event sticking to tried and tested. One had me thinking about getting out and about again, the other made me realise I had not missed hearing the same old records over and over. I have missed seeing friends who I only saw at events, missed discussing the records and all that entails. We used to go to the Ashton Ukranian Club now that I do miss especially when I read the events page and see what they could be potentially playing on the night. Good to see that night regularly a lot busier than I remember pre covid and a testament to the dedication of the guys who run it, class will out eventually. What I hear from friends who are still attending well established local events mainly playing oldies is they are generally well attended one in particular rammed every month. Health issues would prevent me from dancing should we venture out so I'm now quite happy buying and playing from my collection at home.

Over priced listings elsewhere
And as long as some people are prepared to to pay over the odds on ebay for records they could quite often buy cheaper, graded the same or better others sellers will I guess see that and inflate their prices to match. I've had different results when making an offer on Discogs , some have been accepted, some outright rejected, some accepted after a counter offer from seller and on one occasion I've mentioned on here before no response at all only to get a message saying seller had relisted record at same price as everyone else, record is still listed two years later. Since I started buying again four years ago I've noticed far fewer records with a low starting price on ebay and many starting at price you can buy direct from Discogs. I use Discogs as a guide not a bible regarding prices, refreshing to see the other day a record I was watching on ebay that I missed the end time relisted at a cheaper price, at last a seller with common sense. On inflated prices a seller the other week listed several Motown records all described as "ultra rare". I thought surely that can't be right, one was £175, a check on Discogs showed 9 for sale ranging from around £14 to £30. It reminded me of the old thread on here Comedy sale of the day. I'm still learning, navigating the minefield of sales, thankfully one thing I have learned is curb the impulse buy, be patient another more often than not in my price range comes along sooner or later. Unfortunately some people are prepared to pay over the odds for quite common records. That's my moan to justify being bottom of the table in record buying with my losses far outnumbering my win column

News: Grayson Perry’s The Full English C4 (inc Northern Soul Segment ) Ep3 Thur 9th Feb 9-10pm
A mix of interesting views and same old same old. Bug bear of mine that I find very irritating happens all the time on Youtube why did they not just use the sound from the all nighter in the clips showing GP dancing instead over over dubbing with Judy Street or at least choose another tune from the thousands out there. I realise they like to have perfect sound quality but surely in this context better to at least try and convey some of the atmosphere of the night.

Movies and Tv
Been watching Dead to Me on Netflix, not for everyone, female leads can be a tad irritating, bit too much ffing but a twist at the end of every episode that surprises you. Episodes only 30 mins long so quite easy to binge watch. Quite cleverly written how they manage a twist that keeps you watching. As with all these kinds of shows you do find yourself thinking would they really have done that and things are sometimes left unexplained, coincidence follows coincidence but it's an easy watch and quite entertaining. Documentary worth a watch again on Netflix, Where's My Jet about a guy who works out how to win a Harrier jet in a Pepsi promotion.

"Haunted places" in Scotland
If you are planning to visit Edinburgh and fancy a hop over the border Chillingham Castle is an hour and a half away over the border. Quite a few years since I went there but it was like no other Castle I have visited, no ropes blocking access, you could get up close to furniture etc, at that time it was like going round to your mates who hadn't cleaned for years which was all part of its charm. More of interest to you said to be Britain's most haunted castle. Plenty of info on line, also been a tv series set there which you might find on you tube.

Spector - Sky Documentaries and Now Tv
I enjoyed it, very sad to see things end up the way they did with the writing on the wall so early in his career. he was certainly never shy of upsetting people. Definitely a deeply troubled soul .

How do you define a collector?
Any views on this one? The exception to the perceived rule? You are new to the Northern Scene, you've got a bit of money behind you, you think "umm I might buy a few records". Instead you splash out on a sizeable collection, what the heck you've got the money. You never buy another record though you do possess a "collection". Does that make you a collector even though you have in essence bought only one thing, no collecting involved.

How do you define a collector?
Reading this and the other thread that inspired it I've spent time pondering over both questions. As a buyer I don't consider myself a collector but going by the dictionary definition I probably am. When asked about music I don't think I've ever described myself as a collector more " I'm into soul music" but if asked, yes I do have a record collection. I'm even confusing myself. Oddly when asked about interests I often reply I collect poetry books, I have approaching 400 and I also collect the Far Side books. The only distinction I can see personally is I have no desire to own every soul record from a particular label etc neither do I wish to own all poetry books though I did go through a phase of wanting to own every book by a particular poet, Roger McGough being one and Jim Burns another plus several others hence I collect their books . Same with the Far Side books, though I have all the Collection Far Sides I would still like to have all the individual books. Why I can describe myself as a collector in one area and not another is the question I've been asking myself since the two threads appeared and I'm still no wiser. I need to sit in a dark room, "I have a collection but I'm not a collector", maybe not a dark room but a padded cell.

World Cup 2022 Qatar Topic
I'll maybe watch the England games and dip into Wales's efforts but after that have little interest. I'm not particularly interested in politics in general but after watching several documentaries on the awarding of the world cup to Qatar and the reports of abuse of human rights, the fact they have no experience of hosting something on this scale I think it will be a miracle if events off the field don't overshadow the football.

C30 C60 C90 - will you go?
No regardless of the artist or artists. I rarely play the couple of hundred cds I own so definitely won't return to cassettes.
