  1. This topic can probably fit into the "useful trivia" or "boring b@stard" category. But I've just finished reading the biography of Aretha Franklin written by Mark Bego and there are a few things that I didn't know before (not exactly Einstien material !) 1. Erma Franklin who sang- Whispers getting louder on Duke, is Aretha's big sister. 2. Whilst exiting a Chicago limousine in 1968, Aretha was confronted by a 14 yr old runaway girl, Aretha gave her a $100 bill, that young girl was Oprah Winfrey. 3. Chuck Jackson, is actually the brother of Rev. Jesse Jackson. Now, I never knew that...... And that's why I get a huge thrill when reading about this fantastic Soul scene. alan

  12. Rachel's post made me think- just to clarify something....... Scotland's not so big, there are many John MacDonalds's (spelling is quite important !!) my good mate John MacDonald (Soulmac on here and ebay) from Dundee who helps me run the Dundee Soul Night's is definetly not the person in question on this thread. cheers alan
  13. Eddie Floyd was on the Jools Holland hogamany show, sang the expected classics but vocally sounded good, said he was going on tour but no details divulged then. I actually half-expected him to be announced at Prestatyn etc....... alan

I have to agree 100% with your sentiment, I've no idea which venue you are talking about but my opinion is that this down to the organisers to clearly state their venue & music policy ie originals only or anything goes !! then let the punter decide, this will also influence which DJ's they are able to attract. alan
  15. agree with Mark B. on this one, you'll always get more interest if you give an indication of price. My £ value might be different to yours and different to any price guide, so folks won't offer anything until they know your expectations.... alan
  16. hi Richie - selling this one a bit cheap, IMO. Great B side, "Stay by my side", been playing this one in the bedroom recently..... Merry Xmas to you and Linda, also i'm sure you're happy with the Dons performance tonight :-) cheers alan

  22. hi Mark - great news, knew you wouldn't be on the sidelines too long !! absolutely no offence to Eddy and Solar but Sunday's might get back to normal for me = packing suitcase and listening to Big Daddy, with a voddie or two..... cheers alan
  23. Mark - I'm gutted, the show has been a highlight of the weekend for me (ask my wife, my Sunday revolves around 8pm !!) Sounds like you've really made your mind up this time. All i can say is thanks for the all the efforts and the education you've passed on. cheers alan
