  1. Back in 1978, not long after I joined the navy, another lad in my mess was also on the scene. What few records we had between us we kept together in a single box and would just play each others sounds. One weekend the other lad took the box home. When he got back he told me that the box had been stolen. Whether this was the case or not I'll never know, I had little choice but to accept his version of events as I couldn't prove any different. The fact that he didn't offer to compensate me pissed me off, given the fact that he'd "lost" them. I wouldn't have accepted anything off him, but it would have been nice for him to offer. I don't know to this day if he was telling the truth, but I never trusted him again.
  2. Magic Barry, you'll have to do a reveal for all the SS members. I'm guessing you had access to her phone prior to the conversation. Only way to explain it.
  3. Seasons best to you and your team Mike, and all members.
  4. It may be a good idea to invest in an ultra violet marker and light for your prized vinyl. I know it won't stop thieves taking them in the first place but it will be easier to prove original ownership should the vinyl resurface. It is a shame anybody should have to do this on the scene, but obviously there's a few light fingered f*ckers out there who think nothing of betraying peoples trust in them.

  6. Ain't No Danger is on Northern Soul's Classiest Rarities Vol 1. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Northern-Souls-Classiest-Rarities-Vol-1/dp/B00005M08S I Can't Get A Hold of Myself is on The Northern Soul Story Vol 1: The Twisted Wheel. https://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Northern-Soul-Story-Vol-1/dp/tracks/B000RB6UUQ/ref=dp_tracks_all_1#disc_1
  7. Looks like there's going to be a few surplus Barbara McNairs about. Got my missing Marvin Gaye from Universal on Monday but it only came in a plastic sleeve. Don't know whether to keep the spare BM or sell it on.
  8. Do most of my listening to JazzFM in the car, so all this about four other ways to listen to it other than DAB is bollox.
  9. Agreed, I've heard it regularly in the last year well before the video came out.
  10. Amazon are currently selling a double CD and DVD box set for £5. The DVD features the short film Function at the Junction and the documentary Way of the Crowd. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Northern-Soul-Various-Artists/dp/tracks/B00AZGKGOE/ref=dp_tracks_all_1#disc_1 Would make a good stocking filler.
  11. Just seen the download code up for sale on ebay with a starting price of £4.99. At least the seller does stipulate it is only the download and not the actual vinyl. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NORTHERN-SOUL-MOTOWN-7s-RARE-AND-UNRELEASED-VINYL-MP3-DOWNLOAD-/251405991902?pt=UK_Records&hash=item3a88f6ffde

  15. Nice one Barry. I was expecting to get some interesting background information on the group. I'll have a smile on my face every time I hear that track now.
  16. I just look at the pictures now.
  17. It's what's commonly known in the medical profession as Beer Ear (Tinnyitus).
  18. Cheers Sooty, short and sweet. My prediction for next December is looking dodgy......
  19. Winnie, any chance of a precis of the above?
  20. I'll be able to carry on listening to JazzFM in the man cave via the internet but it looks like Radio 2 in the car now.
  21. Vital that the DJ gets his pronunciation right with that one. Is that the same Paramounts who sang Poison Ivy?
  22. I beg to differ, sir. This is an English website, not South African. Pronunciation: /kak/ British informal noun [mass noun] excrement; dung: cow cack rubbish:they talk such a load of cack verb [with object] defecate in (one’s clothes). Origin: Old English (as cac- in cachÅ«s 'privy'); the verb dates from late Middle English and is related to Middle Dutch cacken; based on Latin cacare 'defecate'
  23. I was intrigued to see the title "Hot Sausage" by The Mysterions listed on an album of unreleased Motown from 1962. Luckily it turned out to be an instrumental.
  24. When I saw the thread title I was looking forward to read about a new discovery........ ........."Baby do the Pants Down".
