  4. Got myself a copy from Soul Source recently.......Splendid 45 !
  5. Agree with all the above, I made a few trips up to the Wilton in the mid /late 90's from South Wales, and the place did have a unique aura about it.....Great Times were had indeed......
  6. Great point Chris, and I naively discounted many outside of the Motor City, to produce such similar ilk musically .......The Beauty of the sound produced to compete obviously and didn't realise Willie Mitchell had so much influence on the Detroit scene??
  7. TBH Robb, and very respectfully, I should have perhaps been more clear, as I have been mainly seeking the information relevant to individual releases, of the subject topic moreover from a very personal/selfish point of view, with regard a collecting perspective, and whilst the "broad brush" of labels is very helpful, it mainly reiterates my knowledge of some of the feedback thus far.......
  8. TBH with you Chris, this is what mystifies me on another thread, the mind boggles with regard in particular to the Funk Brothers and their "moonlighting" etc., however when you hear them on Motown it's obvious, but having said that, some of the Philly musicians in particular were very good at emulating them??Mike Terrys' Baritone Sax always gives away some clue, however perhaps the mystery will never come to light, unless of course, there is somebody still around to verify it! I was lucky enough back in the day to witness the remaining Funks at Manchester Apollo, and whilst several legends down, remember the hair on the back of my neck standing on end, when hearing the opening bars of ....."It's a shame", something that will remain with me forever.....I could have been in the Snakepit...........
  9. Hi Robb, Both referred to in A fine publication by Keith Rylatt re- "Groovesville USA-The Detroit Soul & R&B Index, albeit not directly mentioned as such both artist(e)s are referred to within, and I suppose the Mike Terry involvement with Fred Hughes, and Tony Hestor re Minnie Eperson, might link them both somewhat??
  10. Thanks for the feedback to date guys, most of which has been invaluable , having said that from a personal perspective collecting wise, there are still many grey areas! Whilst I appreciate all decent Soul Music from wherever, after several previous collections had to be sold for a variety of reasons from 1974 to date, my penchant for all things Detroit started when I was left with a large handful of my Motown favourites back at the beginning of 2001, and the rest is history so to speak, and my interest has grown from then onward...... Anyway as stated, I'm still in the "dark" with regard some of the non Detroit labels that utilised their artist(e)s within the Detroit studio recording facilities from a completist perspective ! i.e the Don Robey catalogue in total etc. The Arctic label (considering the Philly and Detroit collaborations), amongst several of the other "out of town labels" alas, if anyone can help I'll ask the following....... Can anyone elaborate on the following artist(e) output with regard to specifically Detroit recordings...... Jo Armstead /Larry Banks-Don't pull away /Fred Hughes-Don't bring me down /Sidney Barnes (not under a pseudonym) /Joanne Courcey-I got the power /Dells Cadet output with writing by Hestor/Wylie /Minnie Eperson.....and that's just for starters! Thanks wilxy
  11. TBH Robb, the above version by Marvelous Ray Whirlpool, was also done by Steve Mancha, and written by James Abner, and now having heard the Pat Smith version, it is the same but one of her 4 unreleased Thelma 45's, having previously believing it may have been a different track.......(Doh!)
  12. What's the story behind the Wild Deuce Label, and the links with Emanuel Laskey and Sharon Soul etc.?
  13. TBH, not a record I'd given much eartime , possibly because of its title since its' inception, back whenever! Having said that, whilst the latter lyrics are'nt overly exceptional, the backing track has a certain something, albeit, wherever produced remains a mystery, and TBH for such "anoraks" like myself, keeps me lovingly involved with our musical phenomena.....irrespectively!
  14. Guys, I Thank you so much for your feedback, ....Brilliant stuff!!! Please Keep it coming!
  15. Robb , I humbly doff my cap to you, absolutely superb feedback....Thank You Very Much.!
  16. TBH I am aware of the Okeh releases and have the latter pair, but Good Point well made.
  17. At ease Soulsearch, It's definitely on the Sidra Cd as I said, and confirmed it whilst driving yesterday....LOL! Benji, is referring to another possible out-take on the Solid Hitbound compilation also......
  18. As this is likely to be an ongoing topic (for myself anyway), and as I work through my playboxes over the next few weeks (only on Fridays I might add), I have a few more "questions" to add, for example the Mala / Bell links to the topic subject, in particular regarding Melvin Davis and Tobi Legend? The Millage label, i.e. The Kazia release and later on Kelly St. Clair? Red-Bird label , Roddie Joy ? Revue label in particular regarding Garland Green? Smash label inc. Scott Brothers/Irene & Scotts/all included Theo/Coff/Babbit in production, etc, and the "old chestnut" Luther Ingram & G-Men I spy for the FBI.....? Lastly tonight the Soul Dimension label from New York with regard to the Smith Brothers....... Thanks in anticipation.
  19. Benji, it is definitely on the Totally Solid Hitbound, track 21 as I've just checked, alas my only CD player is in my car, so can't confirm whether it is the out-take or not, but good shout regardless!
  20. As previously mentioned, it seemed there were a few about in 77/8 and was offered a copy for £8 at Yate, but didn't take up the offer......Alas as a Ric-Tic completist, picked a copy up around 10 years ago.....for a bit more than £8, and a lot less than "mega-bucks" !
  21. Thank you very much for that information Robb, it is very much appreciated! Please feel free to elaborate further in due course if you would, as I find the whole subject fascinating.......
  22. I think, that the CD Eddie is referring to is actually "The Sound of Sidra", an outta sight soul essentials-"The Detroit Sound" and the release no. is OSCD011, and Barbara Mercer outtake version is track #8....
  23. The Following items required in minimum VG++ condition, PLEASE PM ONLY with price and condition. 24. Hi Dave, apologies but could you elaborate, on John Rhys' involvement, as I was under the illusion that the Rotations was done at Virtue studios in Philadelphia????, and furthermore the latter with reference to the tape unrolling!
