  1. Thanks for digging it out John. The Dead wax on mine is all the same except on the 'I just want to be there side' (which plays I wanna be where you are' has a 1 as apposed to a 2. So after both matrix it is 1c. So I guess it is checking or asking on every issue copy that comes along. Best of luck folks and thanks for the info John. My thinking is they did a small run then realized the cock up!
  2. This could well be the case. However this would then mean it is a miss- print as apposed to a miss-press. Does this also mean 'I just want to be there' (the title printed on the record) never came out on 45!. I still think there was a small batch miss-pressed? We will get to the bottom of this in the end. Many thanks for the input. Andy
  3. Sounds about right Chris. Don't think you will ever hear Larome baker and Chuck cockerham played at the same venue again ! The capacity crowd was usually about six. But then it was norwich.
  4. The 45 is vg+ many would grade better. Has a few light marks but none are audible , probably due to those atlanta horns!
  5. What would be a fair price to ask for this one at present? Andy
  6. Sorry, but not up to speed with that. I assume it reads the same as the normal issue. It also has stamped at the top Horace a toussaint. who i assume is either a radio station dj or distributor, but i doubt this has any bearing on this miss-press. Sorry i am not able to be of more help. Andy
  7. Hi all As many will know this track has been issued on 45 by expansion, with many claiming no previous 45 release, and only available from the 'Love in all flavors' lp. However i have on columbia 45 'Don't be afraid with the flip printed as 'I just want to be there'. However it plays 'Don't be afraid' with ' I Want to be where you are' on the flip. Is this a well know miss - press ? or am i just a jammy b******. Don't get me wrong, the official b side is imo a fantastic soul record anyway, but it does seem strange for a logo like columbia to get it that wrong. What do you reckon? Andy
  8. It is soulfull black american music that utilizes modern day and current up to date production techniques.99.9% of the records mentioned so far are just 70's & 80's oldies. They ceased to be modern soul thirty years ago . The problem now is many hang on to old well respected artists doing new stuff which is often very poor, or new artists doing old stuff. Very sad imo. However if that way inclined try Lew Kirtons take on 'Open the door to your heart' cd cut. I like Elements of life 'Live your life for today' .as being a good example of modern soul, infact try the whole cd. Andy
  9. Just like the clifford binns then. Cool!
  10. The flip side 'In search of love' is imo is one of the finest single artist falsetto deep soul records of all time, and has been highly regarded by japanese collectors for years. Over here most are unable to appreciate that, but then it has allways been that way. As for the other side, well it would be a great theme tune for a racing chanel on sky! The 'over the top' production is only saved by Mr walkers great voice. It's been knocking around for years. I did play 'now there is you' out at some local gig back in the eighties and realized it was a mistake.
  11. Many thanks for the input. Cheers Andy
  12. Just PM'D ya. Andy
  13. There really is some great tracks on there. The track he wrote for the paragons 45 is fantastic. Good shout
  14. I am looking to purchase various coloured sleeves (outer), in order to help me find my records a little better, with regard to dates, genre etc. please advise on the best/ cheapest way to go about this. It has been on the jobs to do for a while, and i need to sort this. I have noticed a few online, but let me know what you think. Thanks Andy
  15. I had one of these a few years ago and it was elliptical as opposed to being round! Never seen another 45 like this before. It took me a few days to realize what was wrong with it ,as it was very slight and difficult to judge. I thought it was of center, but no matter how i pissed around with it on the deck, the player arm it was still moving around. I never knew if it was really changing the sound that much as it was so slight, and i had no way of checking. However i got so paranoid about it i flogged it. Just thought i would let you know Sean as i don't want it to happen to you. So do look closely before you buy, or the one i had may have been the only one like it. Andy
  16. Totally agree Ivor, love that inner city feel. Always like to play that with Jaison ' I know what love is' on combrio. They just seem to fit. Great selection Brian. Andy
  17. All the tracks i have except - 2000dj 0114 Which i am not keen on and never looked for 0119 not sure if i have this? They all got released. All the tracks except the first two reached the r&b top 100, and all stayed in the charts for five weeks! 'You bring out the best in me' got to number 20 and stayed there for 12 weeks. I have one or two clips of them on soultrain 'Love that really counts' and something else. Shit! think i had better go ,i sound like Tony blackburn. Andy

  20. I understand exactly what you are trying to say about cotton wool, and i have heard this before. But the fact is cotton has no binding agent, and it is the only material which is both soft enough and flexible enough to get in the grooves. In it's dry form cotton breaks up easily but hardly at all when wet. The weight ratio of cotton combined with the lack of binding agent means if any does break of on the record it will just blow off when dry. Lint free cloths will not depress enough to get in the grooves , so you will remove some but not all. To make something lint free it has to have a binder, or specific weave, it is this that restricts the flexibility. You will end up polishing shit! Ever thought why a lint free cloth is used to make the rubber for french polishing? Plenty of spelling mistakes for ya
  21. Cotton wool pads that the lady gets her make up of with, dunk in white vinigar (it's gin clear) and incredibly good at removing all dirt, smoke damage, juke wear deposits, you name it. Then finish with isopropyl. I find that the most effective and cheapest method. It is surprizing how soon small bottles of isopropyl go down.Or as russ mentioned above buying in bulk. Andy
  22. Two great sides. Captured every thing i like from the period. brilliant post.

  24. John Anderson latched on to it, and imported the record. It was then listed on his front page along with numerous other indie releases at the time. It was then known by all who purchased the record. Think it may have been a pound more than most of the others by virtue of the fact he thought he may not be able to get further boxes or he felt it had potential. It was probably rather desirable in japan as well. Either way like many of the indies he had they were probably pressed in far fewer numbers than many of the sixties 45s that you can get tomorrow, yet seem to go for £200!.Don't forget it is round about about thirty years old.
