Wil Collins, Thought I'd Had A Bargin Away
Yes, was with my mate Derek and we planned a south coast record shopping day, first stop we wandered into a junk shop and there was a box of 7's in the corner, that was the first record in there. Bought a load of stuff and the guy priced them up on how popular he thought they were, as in 'that was a big hit I want 1.50 for that one... That was a flop, so 50p. These American ones are all 50p each nobody buys them...'. Went straight down the pub and sat in the sun for the rest of the day ;) When I told you, you said 'I go in there every week and never found anything' !

Wil Collins, Thought I'd Had A Bargin Away
I had an issue at one time that I moved on, the b-side is nothing special at all so I wouldn't lose any sleep over trying to find one

Funky Soul
^^^ f**k me it's 'the snake' lol RADICAL )))))))))))

Funky Soul
exactly, and it died a death as it's a minority sport in the extreme, most of those nights were full of students not 'hardcore funk fans' (as they generally didn't exist). Whatever dreams anyone has thats into it has of this taking off again in any way above a small circle of people is on another planet. If you like it, play it to each other and the few that will like it and enjoy it. Popularity isn't everything, in fact it's really nothing. Just don't expect to get too many converts, frankly it does often sound very samey after a while. cheers Sutty

Funky Soul
Half the records on this thread were unwanted funk 45s not long ago, please don't tell me anyone collecting this stuff is paying out daft money for this stuff! Sons of darkness being a prime £5 record example. There's a reason it was in every funk sales box for a fiver, it's shite lol

Stan Ivory - Come Live With Me - 12" Mint
Probably bad form saying this but I think the seller is confusing this later 12" press with the original 7". The 12" is available now on a quick google search for a 5th of the asking price. nice record though!

Just How Big Is The Modern Scene?
ok, I get you so your anwer really is it is many different scenes around the UK and abroad. If you take all the facets and scenes into account it is big, I get invites on fb to events that pull say hundreds of people regularly but the DJ's and dancers have nothing in common with any modern event discussed on here, apart from some of the music cheers Sutty

Just How Big Is The Modern Scene?
In answer to the question, depends if you are talking about a 'modern' scene playing 'modern soul' that is populated with ex-northern punters (so quite small), people who are more likely to be from the 'soul weekender' scene (bigger), or all the rest of the events that are off each others radars that happen all over the country (tons of them). Or the 4th group of all the rest. Soul music isn't exclusive to people who know and like/liked northern or go on internet forums or attend events advertised on them, i'm assuming the questioner is surely asking about the 1st option on here? a large number of people I know into the modern side of things have no interest at all in northern, and many actively avoid 60's music altogether as they din't like it and never did. These are people from mid-30's to mid 50's, and they're still going out and they do know their onions. Just not their tomangoes. regards Mr Logic

Yet Another Ebay Tale Of Overcharging On Shipping
I understand that you are supposed to pay the VAT on items over £15 frm outside the EU. what gets me is that the post office charge £8 for collecting the fee when there appears to be no way to legitimately pay the fee upfront, so it's a license for the po to print money for doing naff all. I usually go into the change jar and pay in 1p, 2p and 5p as much as possible and then as many coins as poss. They have never even counted it and just take what I give them so I guess you could pay a bit less without them realising. There's no point complaining to the people at the sorting office, just doing their job, but unless I've missed something and you can pay the VAT upfront, there must be a case for stopping the excessive po charges? Cheers Sutty

Gregory Porter - 1960 What?
the RSD limited issue was a limited issue, they're all numbered on a dark label. where has a promise been broken? 500 limited copies for RSD was what they said wasn't it? that's what it is. the repress is on the standard expansion label. are people more concerned about the potential resale value of the RSD version going down? it won't, its still the limited edition for the collectors and in the eyes of vinyl buyers the most desirable format. i'd like someone to reissue the 1st Michael Kiwanaku 10" please as that's now £100+ on private sales, meaning private purchasers are making vastly more money than the artist, as in the case of Gregorys' RSD record! same for the tubby hayes 7. I didn't get one on RSD as the queues were mental to get in the shops that hardly enyone normally goes in, it was on Juno for under a tenner within 2 days and on other sites too cheers Sutty
