Fame recordings - suggestions welcome
Hi I have a mini-collection of great soul 45s recorded at FAME studios and want to keep it growing. 45s issued on the FAME label (James Barnett, Art Freeman etc) are obvious so II'd love to get suggestions where the recording ended up on another label (Eula Cooper/Note, Bill Brandon/Tower). Doesn't have to be Northern but please don't suggest "Torn between two lovers"

Sharon Ridley Where did you learn to make love
Sorry, WDYLTML rather than WDTLM on last post

Sharon Ridley Where did you learn to make love
I love the extended version of Where Does That Leave Me? she does on the LP. Great Van McCoy arrangement of course and one to sit back and enjoy on the headphones. Single of WDTLM is very rare though sometimes it slips through on ebay when the US sellers list the A side only

Cherished record casualties
I caused a bizarre fight with only one winner between the bottom of a wardrobe door and an original +previously mint Linda Jones just can't live my life 45.

What's your Best Buy of 2016
I'm on Sick Leave by Randolph Brown / IX Chains. Mint for £10 and I reckon set to go big thanks to its inclusion on the excellent Kent Mainstream CD (even my daughter liked this one)

News: The Arock - Serock - Sylvia Soul Story Continued - Review
Just played this excellent collection through today and one thing I think worth mentioning is the standard of the vocals. On just about all the tracks it's very, very good. The arrangements too are delicious with lots to listen out for and there's a real sense of unity about the compilation. Recommended by me.

Billy Woods about to go on sale
so we have to assume that Sussex had one PR man to cover the whole of the USA? Maybe that's why they folded but I doubt it.

Billy Woods about to go on sale
Popsike shows that in 2007 a copy in decent shape went up for sale on ebay and sold for $5750. The text says that it originally belonged to a record company rep so you'd think there was a few more out there amongst the ex-sales force and radio stations.

Tymes: the plot thickens or is it solved?
We all know about the Parkway P-933 release by the Tymes where some issues come with "Anymore" as a B-side rather than the more common "Here She Comes" but why did it happen? As the label on the "Anymore" copy still says "Here She Comes" it certainly looks like a mix up somewhere. The picture shows an interesting issue of their previous release P-924 where "Here She Comes" is replaced by the previously undocumented (I think) "It's you and Only You." "Malibu" remains the A-side. I bought it on ebay from a seller in Philadelphia so I reckon it was quite common for the Tymes to release a local copy that was a little different in order to promote sales. They did it again when MGM were distributing their singles. The mistake with "Anymore" is probably that they just forgot to get the label right. When I get time I'll post a sound file but you're not missing much: it's a little saccharine for modern tastes and will probably remain a bit of an oddity.

Van McCoy Soul Improvisations Pt1 & Pt2
Here's the other one

Van McCoy Soul Improvisations Pt1 & Pt2
Yes they're quite rare. I regularly search on ebay for Van McCoy records and these issues only come up once or twice a year at best. When they do they don't generate much interest or sell for big money so only patience is needed.

al hudson b-side
Thanks Ricky The Expansion notes are inaccurate as Atco 711 coupled My Number One Need with Alone She's Gone. $100 from Craig Moerer suggests the alternative 7044 is rare but it's hard to judge.

al hudson b-side
Any thoughts on the rarity of this alternative B-side to Al Hudson's ATCO 7044 (Love Is) release? Quite a nifty dancer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gzK4fJrBkw
