  1. I'd like to take part, thanks
  2. Sold 2 million in the US - R&B no1; No4 pop. Charted at 31 in the uk
  3. ..and credited to ROSZETTA Johnson on Clintone and Columbia
  4. ..one minor point about the sleeve notes - 'I Love you More Than You'll Ever' was originally performed by Blood Sweat and Tears - (written by band member Al Kooper) and recorded some 5 years before Donny Hathaway's 'original version' - as much as I love Donny's version - credit where credit is due, Mike
  5. Got mine in the post today - its excellent - I pre-ordered on Amazon - free postage too - £8.95 all in Word of warning - not sure if it is me or 'Gracenotes' but when I download to Itunes it puts the Ovations track out of order so that all the songs titles after track 9 are out of order - needed to manually edit all the titles!! Titles in upper case too - which is unusual. Mike
  6. Very interested Zane - please do it. However, can you not associate a picture with the file - its one thing listening on my Ipod - another thing looking at a picture of Fraser Great show BTW Mike
  7. I know which version we will be hearing at Just Soul - bring it on!!!
  8. Sorry Dave - just seen your reply - thanks for that!!
  9. well his manic 'Little Demon' springs to mind for me Pete
  10. I prefer them with drill holes
  11. "Well, the future for me is already a thing of the past."
  12. I think an awful lot did come out - often mentioned on the back of US vinyl albums. They were pretty good quality if I remember rightly - but lost out to cassettes - bit like betamax vs VHS. My mate had one in his car - always remember you could hear the mechanism change between the tracks - Mike
  13. Not 'reel to reel' but along similar lines I have two Linda Jones albums on 8 track ...but with no means to play them Look good on display though, Mike

Great track Sean - only have it on the Island LP 'The Duke & The Peacock' a fantastic compilation of Duke, Peacock and Sureshot stuff- Mike
  15. another example of how the scene was much more broad minded and open to anything back then - it helped to be young and daft of course
  16. Agreed Sean - just dug out my old UK album - great stuff - "I've Got To Go On Without You" just playing!! Can even put up with 'Stay With Me Baby' (I'm in the Godin camp on that one ) ......and "Yes Sir Brother" is a 'killer'. Mike

Daz - That Little Ernie Johnson is a great double sider with 'Loving You' - a touch of the Bobby Blands for me! - Lofty
  18. was that Jap Goldwax CD 'booted'? my copy is awfully cheap looking with a blank inner booklet.
  19. Mine would be.... The Bottle - Gil Scott Heron You're Gonna Get Next To Me - Bo & Ruth Cherchez la femme - Dr Buzzard (or the other two if push comes to shove)

Nice LP Kev. 'Just To Let Him Break Your Heart' is one of my all time favourites Mines a strange one - it is not the re-issue but it is on the blue Epic label rather than orange unless it was re-issued circa 77/78?

As did his real name - Austin Churton Fairman !!! A really interesting life that R&B only played a small part in - https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/obituary-churton-fairman-1270037.html Like Tony he introduced me to the whole spectrum of Black Music. Mike
  22. Jim - don't let people 'cherry pick' and be left with the cheapos - you would be better off putting the effort into selling the rarer items individually on ebay or the like. IMHO Mike
  23. I posted up on this a few weeks back and someone recommended Jazzman - and they are first class => https://www.jazzmanrecords.co.uk/v2/prodtype.asp?s=zbbp5t10&strParents=&CAT_ID=57&numRecordPosition=1
  24. Following on from the cardboard covers topic - can anyone recommend good (thick) polythene covers for LPs that also look good - its time I sorted my LP collection out , many thanks
  25. Interesting version - Ruby turner did a take also in her earlier days -someone played it in the Deep room at Soul Essence a year or two ago - its on iTunes My favourite is the three pronged attack of Helm, Danko and Manuel from The Band ! Mike
