  3. Mystique- if you're in need........and the sax break lasts a full minute (70's) Kev
  4. Ha ha, I lifted it off the internet to save scanning my own copy. There were a few, what are the chances eh! The other scans were all my own. Kev
  5. Don't know what's going on with this guys arms and legs, hard to tell which is which! Kev
  6. If there was such a thing as 70's beat ballads then this would be right up there! starts slow but builds until you don't want it to end.....pure soul Kev ..
  7. Plenty of threads on here about boots of original recordings, just type the name of the record into the search box on the forum page and you will find numerous debates. or as Benji says invest in the bootleg guide. Good hunting! Kev
  8. What a build up and what a production Kev
  9. On a roll now with this from Carolyn Cooke, a proper beat ballad! https://youtu.be/X8VEPUMF4nE
  10. Exactly what I thought to begin with , but they have both grown on me. Kev

  12. You're right. My sister who was born in 1949 came home with Oscar Toney Jnr - For your precious love as a new release as it was played as a slowie at the end of the night. Kev
  13. A Taste of Honey -Boogie Oogie Oogie Donna Summer - Love's Unkind Spencer Davis - Any one of his hits I remember Dave Godin chose "Charles and Eddie - Would I lie to you" as a song with all the right ingredients for a northern record The Maisonettes - Heartache Avenue I'm not saying that they would have been great to hear played out, but there were far worse records played at Wigan. Kev
  14. I like the reference he made to bounced cheques. That might have been me I'm afraid. At that time living beyond my means trying to balance a life with record collecting a bounced cheque was a regular occurance. Kev
  15. Just One Kiss: https://youtu.be/NNw_IpH1ImcThis one's a cracker too. Reminds me of the Temptations. ... Kev
  16. Have a listen to the track I posted the other day he only has two tracks on you tube and they are both great, the same kind of thing. . .
  17. Thanks for that. I saw Edwin Starr twice in one night at the Victoriana and the Mardi. In 71' I remember him playing Jean Knight Mr Big Stuff, King Floyd -Groove Me, Friends of Distinction -Grazing in the grass, Delfonics etc and David Ruffin Don't stop loving me, some as imports, so it was all of its time really. Kev
  18. I was a regular at the Mardi in 1971 and I don't recall Billy ever playing anything northern so it must have been earlier than that. Billy gave me my first dj job at the Golden Guinea Club in New Brighton 1973 because he preferred to go upstairs to play black jack. I also went into his loft searching for stuff before Richard Searling got there, but he wouldn't let me have anything unless there was two copies, so I only came away with Dusty Springfield What's it gonna be, because he had about 5 of them.
  19. In the 70's it depended on where you lived I suppose. In Merseyside for example you could count on two hands the number of people who were into it and it was ridiculed, mainly because blokes didn't dance on their own in Liverpool and the media attention it got was generally mocking, in my opinion! Kev
  20. I'm always looking for new soul music as well as digging for old stuff and my 18 year old daughter said "You'll love this dad, it sounds old" and I do. Hope you do to Kev
  21. My all time fave beat ballads - Ruby & the Romantics and Mamie Galore Kev
  22. Thanks Ricky, I also found that on the web. The track is just credited to him alone on the George Kerr - Masters of Soul and I wondered if it was pressed on vinyl credited to him alone? Thanks Kev
  23. I came across this on Spotify and realise that he was in the High Keyes. But just wondered was this ever pressed on vinyl by him or is it just an unreleased credit. You can hear a sound clip on amazon if you want. https://www.amazon.co.uk/I-Was-Living-a-Lie/dp/B00JM13PDC/ref=sr_1_2?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&qid=1423571708&sr=1-2&keywords=Troy+Keyes
