  1. I've noticed on some Lou Courtney tracks on Riverside that it says Produced by The Funk Brothers. I've not noticed them being credited as producers on other stuff especially on motown tracks. Is this the same funk brothers that were the motown musicians or is it just a generic name the producers gave themselves. Riverside label appears to be a New York label. I expect RobbK will know Kev https://www.recordsbymail.com/uploads/7-2-13-45s3/89476.JPG
  2. Found this and thought it might interest some of you. A lot were pressings but the Hi-Lites for 70p was a bargain. Not sure of the year, any guesses?
  3. It'll have to be on Big T mate, or maybe they were originals and we just didn't know it.
  4. Welcome! The Ikea version might be cheaper, but I like your design better. But being US based I think that postage on top might make it prohibitive for a lot of people here in the UK. Really like the concept and the look though!
  5. Yes and my mate John had one too. When he reads this I'm sure he'll confirm it. I've never seen a demo!
  6. This is the same one I had in the 70's and it was a boot or a legal re-issue, it wasn't hard to get.
  7. Had the pleasure of having a pint with Hamish Stuart last year in Hale. Always have the white album on my play list. How can you not like this https://youtu.be/wXiNIrUL1zw
  8. This one seems to fit into a variety of soul music tastes
  9. The Spirit of Philadelphia cd's will give you a lot of good stuff to go at. If you go to the links on amazon you can see the track listings. Happy hunting Kev https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spirit-Philadelphia-Various-Artists/dp/B0000AINFL/ref=sr_1_6?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1405366526&sr=1-6&keywords=the+spirit+of+philadelphia https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spirit-Philadelphia-2-Various-Artists/dp/B000F2C8MQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1405366526&sr=1-3&keywords=the+spirit+of+philadelphia https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spirit-Philadelphia-3-Various-Artists/dp/B004MT9E8E/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1405366526&sr=1-2&keywords=the+spirit+of+philadelphia
  10. https://detroitsoulsingles.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/washpan.html looks like 1968
  11. I have the RCA "Funky Bottom Congregation" which has Herb Ward Honest to Goodness on it, as well as many other goodies. Never seen another copy on lists although I'm sure they will be in collections somewhere.
  12. I've got the Towanda Barnes track, but I wouldn't expect it to be worth more than say £40
  13. "Hold on Help is on the way" is one of my favourites. Reminds me of Wigan
  14. You can be sure of one thing. Solicitor's fees would easily exceed the value of the record!
  15. Love the moody cinematography as well. Fantastic. Kev
  16. Blues and soul used to have a stars and stripes heading, I seem to remember!
  17. Thanks Ian, I wish I still had that cassette, I must have played it fifty times or more as they were some of my favourites, at that time. In fact, I can remember the sequence vividly, the record after Joe Matthews was Teen Turbans - Need to be loved, another record I was desperate to own! Someone's gonna tell me next that wasn't played until 1978 Anyway, I know it was played at least once, the other two also went on to be big, so I just wondered if after I stopped going to Wigan did it take off and it would appear not, but got played at other venues in the 80's Kev
  18. He was the epitome of soul music. R.I.P.

  20. You might be right about the year, I had stopped going to Wigan by '76 . It may not have been RS who played it, it might have been RW!!! but it was very early on in the evening, literally as they opened the doors. We would head straight for the balcony to get a spec and I think that was a time when the dj's would try new stuff out before the place filled up.
  21. Great piece of footage. I used to get his lists in the 90's. Made me smile when he said if he wasn't doing this, he would maybe be a Refrigerator Repair man. I have a friend who started out as a Refrigerator Repair man and is now a millionaire from selling white goods.
  22. I had this on a cassette which I recorded by hanging a mic over the balcony, like so many people did. It was played by Richard Searling early doors 73/74 and was followed by Joe Matthews - "Ain't Nothing You Can Do". It took me almost a lifetime to find out who it was, because he never announced it. I never heard it played again, does anyone know if it did get another airing, or did it just vanish into obscurity? Kev
  23. Good article and well done Pete in the way you went about it. Can't blame Nick for wanting to keep his head down. Kev
  24. Not Rare, but Lovely nonetheless, Yes Pete, you sold it to me!
