  2. every time i read one of Andy's accounts of Shrine i think how brilliant he was to pursue the label. well done Ace, and all involved.
  3. @Kev Cane It's just me then. you are right though superb 45. Love to know the names to put it beyond doubt.
  4. Have to disagree Kev. I do hear males on 'You Gonna Pay'.
  5. although you see 690 Hunter St address on The Naturals Quadran label, Quadran actually started at ( with The Contacts). 101 Ollie St, Atlanta G.A., the Westside Branch of the YMCA. It was in the basement.
  6. Why Little Girl (Can't You Love Me)...it's a female lead and females on back-up? right?
  7. Now the JM Auction is over, maybe the new owner might find this interesting (dusted off notes turned into a one pager). Teddy Miller, LIFE.docx
  8. That too has a hint of sarcasm. So it shows how difficult it is to define…especially when it’s just written without any F2F expression.
  9. very interesting Russ, thanks. & @Woodbutcher Remembering the (your post) article was from 1952, i just thought i'd revisit and add... RPL moved from 1558 Pierce (a third floor affair, gone by at least 1972) to 100 State St, NJ (100 State St was a full building block), it had studio's for clients to cut small run acetates, and was still churning out tapes, in 1972. So the likelyhood is that the acetate was done at RPL. Of course a master tape could have come (been sent) from anywhere.
  10. Evening Sentinel: 14th March 1973 -The City Licensing hearings (continued on 15th March), effectively ending the Torch. Evening Sentinel: April 4th 1973 -Opportunity to appeal ran out. For Sale or To-Let notice goes up. The end of one beginning, but six months later it heralded the dawn of a new beginning...what was to become the most famous venue, Wigan Casino.
  11. Airtown Record Enterprises ( Airtown records, Airtown Custom Records, & a small tape recording studio ), 723 North Tenth St, Richmond, Indiana. Owned and managed by Tommy Wills who lived on Beechwood Trailer Court. He was born in Middletown, Ohio. He travelled the East Coast and Canada and moved from Decatur, Ill (where he was up to 1966) to Richmond in 1969. Air Town's birth was 1st May 1968. He would take his tapes to Rusty's Jewel Recording Studio (Ohio). Not quite sure why the label logo switched from Airtown to Juke. I think the building is gone, but it was on this corner T-Junction (pic).
  12. Hi Russ, nothing as concrete as that. Just a question/option i threw in...because on hearing it, it took me straight to 'dances of the time' coming out of Indianapolis, like the Tighten-Up, the Popcorn ( "Tighten up your Popcorn" was around at the time, Big Daddy Graham trio). And the dance comps' in the area like 'Loose Booty' etc. And of course the Ebony's Band artist name on the disc in question.
  13. So...is (was) this not the Ebony Rhythm Band aka Ebony Rhythm Funk Band from Indianapolis then? There were definately lost recordings. They were the house band at Lamp.
  14. I think on this occasion Russ, better to over-report than not at all. If it were one taken it would still feel like shit.
  15. Not got mine. Promo. O/N 12033 @Brewerytownbeats
  16. i guess anyone can list a record on ebay, discogs etc, and not even own it? Put a ridiculous price on it that wouldn't attract a buyer's interest, so would never have to produce it for sale. To my knowledge, there is no authentication of ownership. Maybe it's a 15 minute of fame thing.

yes...it's come a long way since my first visit when it was at The Masonic in Dukinfield. Brian and the 2 x Chris's ( although only one Chris currently) have done a wonderful job.
  17. we've got a toughie today. my team Celtic (Stalybridge) play United (F.C. U of Manchester). A loss for us, could see us drop into relegation zone. Our form is a bit patchy, tense times.
  18. @David Meikle I've read a few times ( discogs and your excellent GW post on soulful detroit) that Stephanye was Gene's daughter. My understanding was that Gene's daughter was Pennye (Penny Ford later) AND it was Cleveland Horne's daughter who was Stephanye.
  19. thanks Sebastian. yes, i know mike's teen mayhem work, and agree with you about his provenance. and did visit 45cat before i originally posted. It's just that IMO there is something not quite correct (or explicable). It may be something in either the (New) Seven Dwarfs/7Dwarfs/Ambassodors line-up's, etc. (is it possible it was recorded/cut B4 '68 but not released until '68...who knows) Anyhow...i'm happy it's '68.
  20. as some may know, i'm more about dancing (even at my age), not much of a chatterer either...my left knee is shot, but i can't just come to listen to the wonderful music alone, so i'll be there this Saturday to put my best foot forward...my right. I think I'm gonna have to have knee surgery action like Ronnie, maybe.
  21. I'm guessing you've seen the 45cat entry -https://www.45cat.com/record/1168
  22. I'm not convinced about 1968. If you take it that Rick Reardon was in The Ambassodors and the Seven Dwarfs (New Severn Dwarfs), then it's unlikely he was in both bands at the same time. Rick was with the Ambassodors when they released Pork Chops in 1965 AND it was noted then that The Ambassodors were successors to the New Seven Dwarfs. I get the fact that only one possible Ambassodor i.e. Rick was in the previous New Severn Dwarfs, but would he have been re-incarnated in 1968 under the 7 Dwarfs?
  23. I thought Grayson and Jordan “ brought” their “thing” to the explanation of N.S. well… Jordon on first hearing The Gambrells and Grayson from his brush with the music from the past. The people who don’t get Northern Soul are typically the people who have nothing to “ bring”. The “bring” part can be deep like Richards 450 odd nighters or less so with Grayson’s obvious joy of dancing till the sweat ran off him.. I just didn’t care for the footage of the Casino, in this context P.S. Posting on mobile without my specs! Sorry if grammar is awful.”
  24. @David Meikle " I’ve got another address for Palmer up near the golf course. It is also good to see Handleman mentioned". Hi David, is that (other address) the Lyndon Ave address that Palmer shared with John Kaplan or vice versa.
