Think Tommy told me his wife was in the Ivories, if memory serves me correctly...
  2. I have the Trudy & Bobby on J&S and Sity & James on Sprout. But have no idea who they were.

I've contacted almost everyone now whose offers I accepted. Only 1 or 2 not contacted yet, I think. thanks, Greg Tormo
  4. Latest offers at the top of this thread. (Updated 27 Feb 5:30 AM EST). Hope to settle up on these with many of you at Prestatyn. Thanks again for everyone's interest in these. Greg Tormo
  5. Latest offers at the top of this thread. (Updated 26 Feb 7:45 AM EST)
  6. Doesn't Tim "My side of the tracks" on Celtex share the same backing track as a much more expensive record? Is it Lee Shot Williams "Love now pay later" on Gamma? Or am I thinking of something else? Greg
  7. I finally figured out how to edit the original posting, so updated offer amounts are now at the top of this thread. Latest update 26 Feb 7:45 AM EST.

  9. Updated with latest offers
  10. OK... here's an update for anyone who's interested.... I will continue to take offers via email and PM on these records until Tuesday 26 Feb. After that, they're coming with me to Prestatyn. Anyone who's actually going to be there can make me further offers and can settle up with me in person. Anyone who's _not_ going to be there and was a high bidder before I left, I will email and settle up with after I get back (5 March). Here are the current offers... All in UKP. 11. Silly me, thinking it had to be a US record. Never occurs to me that things like this got released on foreign labels.
  12. Would like to see a scan of this. I wouldnt be surprised if it was some sort of Jamaican bootleg, but I've never heard of this record coming out on any other label than Mica.
  13. Am I not? That was the original idea. Anyone who makes an offer that I accept and is planning on being there can certainly buy the record in person at Prestatyn. To be honest, I wasn't expecting such a large response from people who werent' going to be there. I think I've explained to all who've PM'd me with actual offers that it's not a problem if they wont be there. The main thing is that a lot of people have PM'd me about the records without actually stating what they'd want to pay for them.

I first saw Giattino selling the gold copies when ebay was already well under way in the late 90s. The first ones I saw (and I actually bought one for $5.) was in the early to mid 90s from a guy name George Greco when he was still here in NJ. I really doubt that he would have bought them from Giattino and then re-sold them for $5 each. At the same time, Greco had original copies of things on Chex and Volume out of Detroit, so I suspect that the original label owner pressed them up because people like George Greco asked for them (it was on my wants list which I gave him in the late 80s). I suspect that Giattino either bought them from Greco or from the original label owner.
  15. Maybe reminds you of Cody Black "7 Days 52 weeks"? Pretty sure they share the same backing track, as do a couple of other things on the label.
  16. I really wasn't expecting the kind of response I got with my posting. With all the talk lately of the market for soul records going south, I thought maybe one or two people would express interest in one or two records. Instead, I've been deluged with PMs saying "how much you want for this one?" So... I've added info on condition and an indication of a minimum offer that I'd accept for each one. Amounts are in UK Pounds. Some have already received higher offers, and those that have actually made offers will see that. The whole point of this exercise was to see if anyone I was going to see in the UK actually wanted any of these, so I'll take offers on them until I leave for Prestatyn on the evening of Feb 27 and try to get back to those whose offers I've accepted after I get back from the UK on March 5. Unfortunately, I can't do sound files, so apologies to those who requested one of particular tunes, but I'll be happy to play any of these over the phone to anyone if necessary and at a time that can be mutually agreed upon. 17. UPDATED (27 Feb 5:25AM EST) I can't take any more offers on these via email or PM. If anyone else is interested in these and will be at Prestatyn this weekend, then I will accept last minute offers in person and will notify everyone else of their winnings when I return from the UK next week. Thanks to everyone who's made an offer on these. Here are the current offers... All in UKP. 18. I wouldn't be so sure about that. While I firmly believe Craig Moorer to be one of (if not _the_) premier US record dealers and there is not doubt that he has had a tremendous amount of obscure records through his hands, I get the distinct impression that he puts records from wants lists into his catalogue/website whether he's had the record or not. I received his paper catalogs for about 20 years and never saw many of the records that show up as being "out of stock" on his website. I think the main reason he puts them there is to draw potential customers to his site via web searches. It doesn't necessarily mean that he _never_ had them, but I think it's a reasonable assumption.
  19. I haven't got a son. And if I did, I dont think I'm old enough to have one that age. I think I should have waited a bit longer before I bought one of these Clara Hardy's... Could have saved myself a bit of money.
  20. Well, one of those was mine. Now, which of you got it from me?
  21. OK, Coops, why is you're avatar a scan of an original Mel Britt, rather than a scan of the boot with the "white ring" around label? Did you scan your own copy of the record that you'd spent good money on? ["Good money" is defined as more than 5 quid (which I think is about the average price for a boot, though still overpriced in my opinion) ] If its not your own record, did you consider the implications of having an original or bootleg as your avatar? If so, please explain. If not, what would you have said to someone who questioned you about having a bootleg scan up? What if Mel Britt himself had expressed dismay about you not buying an original copy from him for a reasonable market-value price? The entire bootleg-condoning community on the northern scene has a lot to answer for in this case. Greg
  22. You don't have to know who discovered it. But that's not the point I'm making. The point is that this wouldn't be an issue is DJs actually sought out their own unique sounds. Copying someone else's "big sound" playist is the problem. If you're a DJ, play you're own sounds. You're own "discoveries" or what YOU like. Don't play what you think people want to hear. That's just a recipe for stagnation. There's nothing "elitist" in playing originals only. Originals don't have to cost a fortune. Play what you think is good, period.
  23. This, I think is the crux of the issue. What is a "big sound" and how does a record become a "big sound"? All records are available only as originals until it's a big-enough sound for someone to re-issue or bootleg. By definition, anything available as a re-issue or bootleg is already a "known" sound. The top DJ's discover their own sounds or re-activate under-appreciated/forgotten sounds. Hence, you have the Butch's of the northern scene. People who play other DJs "big sounds" can only be pretenders to the throne. There are certainly pretenders who play originals only, but they're not playing their own discoveries, are they? They're the ones who are paying stupid money just to be able to play someone else's discovery. Greg
  24. What do you want to pay for Royal VII?
