Soundburger portable record player by Audio Technica
I recommend anyone thinking of buying a portable to go for this. I still use mine all the time and the great thing now is that you can plug in a quality small speaker not just use for ear phones. They sound great. Red or yellow the rare ones. Paul Temple

Sue Lynne (don’t pity me) Vanner
See Sunday Telegraph today back page of Business and Money - interview with SLV as an ex Bond Girl https://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/fame-fortune/susie-vanner-paid-no-1000-bea-bond-girl/ her biggest money regret was not keeping a box of her RCA single Don’t Pity Me. Sold mine years ago as too poppy.....but undoubtedly rare PT

Contact label Chicago and The Traits
Hey guys thanks so much. Turns out they are the same group and recorded the same record with different arrangements in 1966 and 1971. And I had the Dispo version as well all along but hadn’t connected. Just listened to the interview and the band members were William Ledbetter, Willian Kirk Davis, Kenny Rydell, Gregory McEastland and Ronald Christian. Very little about them in Rob Pruter’s great Chicago Soul so the interview was brill. Some interesting stories about Barry Despenza, The Gems, Donny Hathaway and many others. Incedentally both versions have different but great flip sides. SS does it again. Cheers. Paul Temple

Contact label Chicago and The Traits
Help needed please. Just bought a great double sider The Traits Some Day Some Way and Youve Waited To Long (misspelt too for to maybe). Contact 4058 and according to discogs there were at least two variations of the label - one has CONTACT at the top and the other down the side. Both yellow. Anyway I’m sure lots of members know this record but I’ve never heard it played out and it’s great for now imho. I do have Willie Cager on CONTACT 504 and The TrAITS do have another nice midtempo on CONTACT 501. Contact seems to be a Barry Despenza sister label to Despenza of Ivories Please Stay fame - one of my cherished all time favourites. Anyway any info appreciated especially who were the Traits and were they the same as the Too Good to be True group. Also there seems to be another expensive CONTACT record by Paulette- who is she - any info? ive done some research but not a lot out there. Thx. Paul Temple

EARLY 70'S LEEDS CENTRAL & STUFF
Nice nostalgic article thx and great memorable pics Pete. A couple of me Titled 3 and 4 with some other Leeds and Selby lads. I was a regular at the Friday nights in the same period - loved it. Also moved away (London) in early 80ts. Knew a large number of the crowd from Selby, Leeds, Rotherham, York, Hull, Knottingley. Used to join the Alan Stevenson coach trips to the Torch - if you could ever find out where it started from... been meaning to visit the all dayers for a while. Thx. Paul Temple

News: Joe Valentine Feature
Enjoyed that thanks. Do you know how to tell the difference between the original and legal reissue of VAL 7225. I do remember a sudden glut of the popular xover record coming on the market and seemed to remember Pat Brady dealer had quite a few supposed to have been sourced direct from Joe. Also do we know how many copies were reissued. It doesn’t seem a rare record now. Paul Temple

Mark Putney - Todays Man / Don't Come Around Here
Nice info and questions. Made me get out all my Ovide and related stuff. Have and like the Mark Putney. It is a great collectors label. Re TSU (Texas State University where they formed) Toronado(e)s I think just two spellings if you ignore The - oes on Ovide and os on Rampart Street for example, which I think was their own label - Tim Ashebende on here would know as he bought most of the spare copies way back when. An additional question. Did any other Ovide apart from Bobo Mr Soul - Hitch Hiking (London HLU 10418 - 1972 licensed from Hi), and Archie Bell - A Thousand Wonders on Atlantic special issue in 2004 get issued/reissued in the UK. PT PS only assume The Drells were so called as rhymed with Bell rather than being an Alien species!!

JMAuction - 04/03/2020 - Results
I don’t get that Betty Fikes version of the much better and much cheaper dan Brantley which I have always loved. £1k for an inferior version just because it’s rare and was once played at a Cleggy!!

Jim Eddleston and Roger Stewart R.I.P.
Very upsetting. Roger has been unwell for a long while, but it’s still a shock. NS was much of his life - totally dedicated. I remember when he found the first Ted Wilson - I can’t take no more - on Sierra at our local boot fair in Chiswick. How the hell did that get there. He recognised its potential straight away. We had so many great times, and I am fortunate to have benefitted from his knowledge and record collection. He took the photos at my wedding (BnW) and then between us we lost the reel! Also knew Jim - he was the first person to recommend Mark Lloyd - When I’m gonna find her - to me and sold me a copy. Still a rare record. He loved talking records. Gonna raise a glass to you both tonight. PAul T
