Have I Dreamt This?
Sat outside a bar on New Brighton front the other day and they were playing lots of Motown. I was with a mate (none soulie) who said "Motown records have a very distictive sound, that Cher Cha Cha Cher (Christ knows how you write it) in the background ". I goes into my knowledgable mode and told him a story that I thought was true (thought I'd heard it years ago somewhere) which was...............................Issac Hayes left Motown and whilst with another label in the studio got frustrated with the producer trying to get the Motown sound. The story is that he got a tambourine and taped it to the cymbal stand of the drum kit, giving away a Motown secret! Later I started to question myself as to my having heard this story and it being correct (or somthing similar) or had I dreamt it!!! Sure someone on here will set me straight. Actually we were sat there in the sun for a while and they were playing lots of decent (well known) sounds. Nice afternoon. Can't remember the name of the bar now! KTF. Drew.

Country Got Soul
Didn't Loretta Lynn get slated at the time for Wings Upon Your Horns because it was thought to be rude? Not sure if slated is the right word for the response the record got but you'll know what I mean. See Tone I do now something about country (not called it C&W). KTF. Drew.

Emmanuel Laskey R.i.p
Whenever I read these posts regarding the sad deaths of our heros, male or female, I can't help feeling greatful to all of you collectors and DJ's who have found, kept and play the music of these stars and therefore keep them alive long after they have left us. I thank you for this. Rest In Peace Emanuel Lasky and all of you other wonderful soul singers who have gone. Your freinds will not forget you. Drew.

Country Got Soul
Slight deviation from the origional post but on another soul site some months back I posted a question on the lines of what soulies felt about Elvis (can't remember exactly how I couched the question) but part of my post stated that I had just been listening to Kentucky Rain by Elvis. I said it then and I say it again, I defy anyone (nicely) to tell me that song isn't soulful. I'm not a C&W fan by any stretch of the imagination by the way. KTF. Drew.

Falsetto
I have heard this song before but just listened again with it turned up and it's fantastic. Dictionary; Falsetto "forced voice above natural range". Can't hear anything in LA's singing that is forced here! The arrangement on this song sounds very much to me like it could have easily been done for Gene Pitney or maybe it's just the high singing that sounds similar. Any connections re writers/production teams etc between the two artists? KTF. Drew.

If I Were A Dj
I think a misplaced smilie such as this in my origional post may have misguided and made others think that I do own records and that I DJ and am being mischievious by claiming that I do not. I only wish I did and I thank you for the encouragement but The Gary Glitter fan I live with would have my nuts if I added buying records to my enjoyment of soul music!! Maybe someday. Chalky, I have Can't Outsmart A Woman also but only in one of my lists of imaginary sets that I'd play! Started off feeling alright about this post but now I'm starting to feel like a sad git! Think I'll take up golf! KTF. Drew.

Ugly Rumors
This is just a thought but has anyone considered that this is being done by someone not connected to the soul scene? Anyone can follow the debates on here and if you have no love for the music and the scene then maybe, just maybe, someone is creating a lot of strife and bitterness between soulies (however famous or not) and loving every minute of it! Maybe it's being done 'just for the hell of it' and not for personal gain or the advancement of one strand of the music over another as the motivation! Seems to me that lots of people who have the scene as a core part of their lives (social or buisness) are falling out and looking back within the scene for the answers. Maybe it's much less sinister?! Like I said, just a thought or am I being naive? Oh, and before any paranoid-androids get going, I don't even own a mobile phone! KTF. Drew.

If I Were A Dj
- Sam Cooke. Does He Do It For You?
I suspect that like most of my age (apart from you collectors who were always one step in front at 14 yrs of age in 1974) you like me bought a Sam Cooke record as one of your first buys. I had some orange lable (RCA?) which had Chain Gang and You Send Me on it. Absolutely conjures up my Youth Club days! Just been posting on here and playing random tunes from The Soul Club Jukebox (my salvation). Up comes Sugar Dumpling and whilst I can think of many of our male soul heros that make me just shake my head in wonder and admoration (you've gussed it I've had a drink.........it's a World Cup thing) I can't think of any other male voice that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time, whatever he's singing ! Am I being being 'over the top' in saying he is the greatest? None of this dismisses anyone else: Jackie, Otis, Darrrel etc.etc (first name terms have you noticed)! KTF. Drew. P.S. The Islamic Peoples Republic of Iran were robbed today by biased FIFA officials you are in the pocket of the USA!!! I have them in my local pub sweep!!!!- If I Were A Dj
But that's the point of my post Bearsy, which venues? KTF. Drew.- New Dance Act Called Casino - Listen
Seems to work and then again because it's made now it dosn't! Am I being peevish? KTF. Drew. - Sam Cooke. Does He Do It For You?
