  1. Sad news indeed. RIP Mr. STewart; you leave behind a great legacy and shall never be forgotten.
  2. England's strength is its attack; hopefully Gareth will have learnt lessons from his previous tournaments that caution will not prevail. If he allows the team to play without fear the match against France should be a cracker. Personally, I would prefer to lose in a tight 3-2 or 4-3 thriller than a plodding defensive match that sees us go out on Pens! Ronaldo to keep the Portugal bench warm in the Quarters? The Dutch match up with the Argies should be a cracker.
  3. Sounds like a fantastic release. My order has been placed...
  4. Sorry Mike. Performance not really there for the Welsh this morning... England never beaten the Yanks before. Time to make history later?
  5. Wow.. Just wow. Japan come from behind to beat the Germans in a group that also includes Spain. Could we see the four times Champions departing the Finals at the Group stage again?
  6. And, perhaps more importantly in a football context, should not have been awarded to a nation with zero history of reaching the World Cup finals. Somewhere in the World there are 26 players in a nation that may have qualified for this World Cup and may never have the opportunity of playing at this level because a nation with more money than football talent was able to bribe FIFA. If FIFA wanted an Arab World Cup, in a footballing sense, Iran has more credentials than Qatar. Good win for England yesterday though and good to see there will not be an over reliance on Kane to score goals. Wales were much improved in the second half of their game with USA.
  7. Another fine selection Karl.
  8. Cracking set of tunes there Karl. Can't believe how you can possibly be accused of being a Northern Soul dinosaur with such a "modern"/cross over selection. Love the last two Lamont Dozier offerings, as a recording artist he is vastly under rated.
  9. Always a popular disco nostalgia number. Bit of resurgence following Peter Kay using it in Car Share a couple of years back maybe...
  10. Been waiting for a physical release of this album for some time since hearing about it from Soulandjazzandfunk a short while back. What this article does not mention is that both vinyl and CD releases are limited to 500 copies each only so act swiftly to grab one of the albums of the year.
  11. Just caught a bit of Diana Ross at Glasto. Unfortunately one word - embarrassing.
  12. Whilst all records are "limited" by the number produced; nearly all the 12" singles that came out in the late 70s stated they were limited but sold in the 1,000s! These small labels are all being run by guys that appear to have a real passion for the music and the artists. Getting these sounds out to a wider audience seems to be the priority above personal profit. Nevertheless the "limiting" factor for these labels must be finance and the cashflow to maintain operations and, consequently, commitments beyond 300/500 pressings per release must have an effect on the flow of these releases. An unfortunate by product is that a resale market is created and some benefit by making a quick buck on a £10 - £15 single but if people buying multiple copies help Sean, Kitch, Colin, Mark & Des et all continue to bring more historic and lost recordings to our ears (and assist the artists and their families) then it is of small concern to me.
  13. Historically my buying preferences have been for original artist albums. Vinyl into the 80's until CD took prominence into the 90s but now back to vinyl. Since arriving on this site I have started buying 45s, mainly from the likes of Diggin' Deep, MD, Soul Direction, Soul Junction, LRK, Soul4Real, North Broad Street etc. and being amazed at the quality of the music that has either not been issued or didn't see a large scale release before. I listen to music through internet radio, mixcloud and in Media on Soul Source. Not bothered with streams/downloads, although I have a fair amount of music on Amazon Music, Bandcamp and downloads through music I have physically purchased. I still purchase the occasional CD, mainly compilations which I view as "mixtapes" for future vinyl purchases or where the CD has more value (tracks) on CD over vinyl, the recent Laura Rain CD being a good example.
  14. Loving this. The Kent Drake side is just dreamy. Essential purchase from North Broad St.
  15. They are shipped from within the UK and use the Royal Mail First Class Signed For service so not profiting from shipping.
  16. Mine arrived this morning. Still find it odd that both Diggin Deep and Soul4Real got the rights to issue the same Bobby Barnes cut.
  17. Arrived this morning. Thanks to Andy and all at Last Bastion/Detour for getting this one out.
  18. A very under rated artist. The BBC ran a very interesting documentary on Betty's life late last year. Might still be available to stream.
  19. Another good 'un. You are providing us with a great slice of 'new' soul music Alan.
  20. Oh dear. This is a tricky one. Three classic and feted artists and a song recorded at a time when instrumentation took a back seat to disco rhythm patterns. Clearly this recording is none of the selected artists' best and, some may argue, recorded after these artists best years. For me Laura Lee has always excelled with slower material where she can wring the full emotion from a song so that leaves me to select from The Dells and The Tops. The disco arrangements are fairly similar so the choice is between the better lead voice of Levi Stubbs or the excellent Dell harmonies. This is real toss of a coin stuff but, for me, The Four Tops edge it.
  21. I think you are being a tad harsh on the Philly Devotions but agree that Little Anthony takes top honours this week. The Delfonics did a great version too;
  22. Another one here for Edwin. Just so much punchier than the other two. Probably because it is Norman Whitfield producing.
  23. Merry Christmas to one and all at Soul Source. 🎅🎁🎄☃️
  24. Shaping up to be another great release. Order placed cheers for this Kitch
