  1. That's a string of coincidences. The colours are exactly the same as those of my wife's old Waffen SS regiment. Her name is Barbara Clare and she thinks she was born to sing although she is tone-deaf and can't hold a note. So convinced of her prowess in this area she has just bought a karoake "thing" that plugs into the TV/DVD in time for her 50th birthday on Saturday and I can hardly wait. Im afraid there is not a chance of her kitchen cabinets being organised in any basic way as she tends to forget what she's bought, buys it again, stockpiles it so that when you do open the door to hopefully find something you get buried under an avalanche of tomato sauce bottles, tins of salmon and packets of icing sugar. She is into cooking programmes especially "Come dine with me" for which she has applied to take part, so we have every spice and seasoning known to man although she doesn't actually use them much apart from hot chilli or similar which can be quite disconcerting in her home-made apple pie. Im hoping she doesn't get to appear on the programme as she gets extremely flustered in the kitchen, blames me for not helping and generally turns into a raging psychopath. Still, I wouldn't swap her unless anyone does have a "Festival Time" on WDJ Ric-Tic which is a huge festering gap in my collection. ROD
  2. Black, red and yellow!!!! Do you have a record collection or a small nuclear reactor!!! Way too garish. Still nice to hear we are of a similar outlook with a commitment to maintaining standards although my wife refers to it as a mixture of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with mild Aspergerger's Syndrome. She does work in Mental Health but as usually she has no idea what she's talking about I've disregarded her diagnosis. Of course the problem with alphabetical order is that you can immediately identify the gaping black holes in your collection which seem to increase with time and infect the surrounding 45s like a cancer until your box is no better than a vituperative weeping sore discharging puss.... Which reminds me. Must have a word with the wife about clinical depression. ROD
  3. Why not cover your latest discovery as "Aaron Aardvark & the Amazers" thus ensuring that it's always at the front of the box for those of us who do it right and stick to an alphabetical arrangement. Those who don't are the lowest kind of pond life imaginable. And don't forget all records must be in white outer cardboard sleeves with inner colored paper sleeves. For instance "Detroit" must be red inners. Some choose green but they are laughingly wrong and deluded individuals who probably cannot be trusted with large amounts of money or your partner. 45s should be placed carefully in the sleeve with the title at the bottom in a straight line [a spirit level does come in handy] and all US releases should have 3-pronged middles inserted [in a "Y" shape] all aligned exactly the same. Once those basics of 45 maintenance are observed you can then accessorise with drapes or scatter cushions. I think a certain amount of "showing off" is involved in this thread but WTF. My first 15 Detroit 45s in box are, IMO predictibly and boringly because I can't afford to add to them, listed below Embers You can lump it ACT IV Larry Wright Sweet sweet kisses A GO-GO Danny Moore Somebody new ALL-RITE Johnnie Mae Matthews Lonely you'll be ART Gino Washington Like my baby ATAC Jack Montgomery Don't turn your back on me BARRACUDA Johnny Mae Matthews I have no choice BIG HIT Barbara Jean & Lyrics Why weren't you there BIG HIT Cynthia & Imaginary 3 That's what I am BIG HIT Falcons [im a fool] I must love you BIG WHEEL Betty Lavette Im holding on BIG WHEEL Falcons Love look in her eyes BIG WHEEL Falcons Love you like you never... BIG WHEEL Johnny Dixon Where are you BOSS Tokays Baby baby baby BRUTE
  4. Obviously a UK boot with the title coming from the WVON albums [Good guys?] that were legit[?] US releases. What do you know about the latter,Bob. Think I might have seen two different but not sure now as a long time ago. ROD
  5. According to TV guide today it's "Heatwave" and "Dancing in the Street" ROD
  6. Im a bit confused now as altho you saw them for sale, supposedly first batch not available until Feb 2009. It wasn't just a promotional display then? You also mentioned "box set" which is actually how I read the original blurb. It looked to me like they were to be sold as sets of 5 45s making £25 each roughly. I don't know if that's right but your reference to "box set" looks like that's the case. I don't expect you to know for sure Andy but I wonder if anyone does. I mean it does also say £4.99 each which would suggest you could buy them individually. Some thought has obviously been given to the NS market but more with an eye on sales I guess than to actually cater intelligently to that niche. ROD
  7. What they on Andy. Black TMG? ROD
  8. Somewhere that when I hear something new to me and ask what it is, it isn't £100+ and usually a lot more. As a collector I used to go out to buy 45s. Now Im priced out of the market. And before someone says there's lots of good cheap records out there; I know, I have a lot of 'em but at most do's they don't play those. Just a load of expensive rare 45s you heard years ago apart from odd real newie. ROD
  9. Lenny they could put out quite a few Marvin 45s such as Lonely Lover, My love for you, Sweet Thing, When I feel the need etc with enough other unissued tracks by him to go on the flips. If like Harry Secombe, I ruled the World, we'd be well into the new 5001 series of previously unavailable Motown cuts. ROD
  10. I read the blurb and assumed "adaptor" meant "big hole" and therefore US. No excuse really then. It reads like one of those ads for collectible figurines you find at the back of a weekend glossy pull-out. Anyone know which genius is responsible? No one on here I hope. Completely agree with Dave T. There are decent 45s there but those of interest to most of us are not that expensive anyway on original although difficult to find in Mintish condition sometimes. "Love starved heart" would be nice to have on a legit issue but why put Frank on the flip when I think it's still available with Chris Clark flip. Why not another Marvin track? As for some of the other "classics" £4.99 is dearer than the original release. Surely car boot fairs can't be running out of "Three times a Lady" already? ROD
  11. Well it looks bobbins to me as a Motown collector. Just think what they coulda done although Im assuming this is for the US market. ROD
  12. A generous offer Kev if something of a leap in the dark. ROD
  13. What's the Red Bird issue though,Ian. Escaped my attention down the years as only seen it on Blue Cat. ROd

I think Bobby Wilson "Feels good" turns up a lot on B&W, which Im sure is a promo. ROD
  15. Really? I have a wife who does that without me having to buy them. ROD
  16. you see, records fit the DJ 's personality and so it should...... Do you know how hard it is to find miserable ,cynical Northern 45s? ROD
  17. "I dont mind people looking through my box but if they started to write them down cos i knew they wanted to get copies of thier own i dont know what i would do after telling them to fook off" [bearsy quote] Well as long as they asked and 45s were uncovered I can't see what the problem is. I thought it was all about spreading the joy of soul music and sharing and caring and fluffy kittens tied up with string and put in an oven at Gas Mark 7. I've had plenty looking through on the odd occasion I've manned the decks. Writing down the details so they don't make the mistake of buying that particular piece of c**p. I take Matt's point about a playlist reflecting a dj's taste which is why Im always suspicious of some of the ATB mob who appear to like all genres of soul music from old R&B through to current R&B as long as it's already played or talked about. ROD
  18. Whilst agreeing that the guy you mention was out of order, I don't really think you've thought that through. If you restricted the 45s you could play to those you discovered yourself I doubt there'd even be a scene. Isn't it only since tail-end of Wigan that 45s got that bit harder to find and some dj's began to get exclusives. If you look back to beginning all the jocks played basically the same records albeit for a much shorter time than nowadays. Levine IMO was probably the first to have a very quick turnaround to stay ahead of the pack. If John Anderson had decided to become a dj.......!!!!???? ROD
  19. The list appears to have been posted December 2006. Is it an old list Spanner you've forgotten about? ROD
  20. Big for Butch? Andy Dyson? Anybody with a decent set? I don't think so. Forgettable floor filler at some ATB/handbag night. No idea if they were modern 45s first but in a Northern context, junk. ROD
  21. I thought the contention was that soulful house isn't Northern Soul? It's not. Citing two tracks by Drizabone as Northern doesn't help either. They're not. ROD
  22. It's not happening is it? As far as the Northern scene is concerned it's barely peripheral to the more modern playlists never mind the 60's crowd. Im surprised you even got an argument as for most it's just completely irrelevant. What do the modern boys think about it? I would have thought if it is worth playing then it's worth getting a night together but to suggest as someone did mixing it in with Northern [60's oldies or newies?] is madness, especially on an equal footing. Im afraid it's always gonna be a sideroom for a very small niche in Black dance music. ROD
  23. I don't think you ought to be labelled a snob if you are concerned that standards are slipping. I was chatting with a guy the other week about the Abstract Reality 45 on Sport. Obviously he knew the release # and what musicians were present on the session but he had a very vague idea of the matrix stamp and actually tried to get away with ZTSC 121610 when we all know it's ZTSC 126110!!! I obviously cut him dead with a supercilious curl of my top lip and I don't think he'll try that one again. He was getting laid though. What's it like? ROD
  24. Yeah but only if we can ban make "me an offer" and I may or may not sell it.
  25. /Shelf-R...les-t87460.html One in sales here
