  1. Your proposition is true for loads of 45s which continue to turn up. I have noticed copies going through Ebay but a lot have looked f**ked. Think Diggin' Dave had a copy recently in poor condition. As for comparison to Parliaments the first time someone gives a JB for a Parliaments DJ I'll believe the Parliaments is more desirable because it's rarer.
  2. Talking of Milton Parker I have his first 45 on the Pfoforeux label. It uses the same backing track as "women like it harder". Andy Dyson mentioned the label to me some years back and I've managed to collect the complete if short run of releases. 001 Milton Parker I just wanna dance with you 002 Cautions Get out on the floor 003 Jimmy Mack My world is on fire Voc&instr [local release before Palmer] 004 Dale Warren I''ll just say goodbye 005 Lada Edmund Jr. Do the Duck All the releases are exceptional Northern and legendary to the cognescenti in collecting circles. Unfortunately I have no spares but has luck would have it our car number plate is PF04 EUX. Highly desirable and I am open to offers.

I don't think there's any other way to realise Dave is on than by peering over the decks. Too proud to stand on a box like Butch. I remember back in 94 all clubbing together to buy him a grow-bag for Xmas.If it works for Spanish tomatoes.... I don't think I've ever come across a guy you could offload complete rubbish on with a more open ear for something good and playable. ROD
  5. I think Dave's valuation would be based on a Mint copy. As you mention VG which is way down the grading scale you can reduce "under a tenner" to "almost nowt" IMO. ROD
  6. OK I didn't go to the Wheel but I did go to the Moon in Duckinfield, Birdcage in Ashton and Poco Poco in Stockport from '69 to '71. The clientelle was made up of a lot of Wheel lads and I recognise loads of those records from then. I can definitely state that I bought Gloria Jones for £1 in 1970 in Ralph's Records in Stockport off "Scotch Joe" and "Little Louis" who assured me it was a Wheel sound and if you'd have seen them you wouldn't have begged to differ! At the same time I bought "Here she comes" CP DJ also as a Wheel sound from them and ended up swapping it for "Darrell Banks "Angel baby" with Al Burkehead. Im assuming Brian when he says Tib St means that little shop with other outlets in Oldham and Ashton [Jim [Dobbs?] was his name I think and his wife was usually behind the counter]. When I worked in Manchester from Sept '71 It always had oddball imports but I did pop in once or twice prior to that. Dave Withers, McCadden and me got in his "warehouse" at the back of the shop in Ashton that John Hillel took over. Can't remember exact date but Carolines was on then in Manchester. Full of imports and we got 40+ Lenny Curtis plus others. So I'd say Tib St was a source for Northern from quite early on. Francis T could probably add info too. ROD
  7. Second that Richard. My DS "normal" has Nashville Matrix [is it] followed by 95 same as on gold and yellow [without lines]Devotions. ROD
  8. Got April Stevens yellow regular "Wanting you" UK 45 in pretty Mint nick and "Little Queenie" Bill Black on UK silvertop London in same condition. Anyone got anything to swap. Looking for 60's soul or ska/reggae in similar condition. NO R&B or 70's thanks. ROD
  9. I checked a listing and it is there Dave BUT so is "Till Johnny comes" so maybe/probably withdrawn? Certainly "Doin their thing" LP rings no bells with me. I'd ask around a bit more and if none turn up I'd put one on Manship and book a Winter cruise [hopefully] ROD
  10. Is that right? It's "Gotta have you back" on the issue. I've never seen demos like that before. Actually Im now wondering if I have seen a WDJ of "Keep..." I may be confusing with "Destination Anywhere" The last regular issueGlobes design I actually have is Wonder "Hey love" which falls between " Got to have you back" and "Starting the hurt all over again", both on later design. No idea when Globes phased out completely. ROD
  11. Im pretty sure Keith that I've seen a Globes demo with same song both sides. ROD
  12. Nice post James. Insightful and inciteful. ROD
  13. Ignoring Ted's "anorak" comment, who's probably just found out that what he thought was a regular issue of WH in his collection turned out to be Three Dog Night, I can see that the bottom copy of the three in the Popsike listing does look different to the other two. And none are the same as the Ebay copy. However mine is the same as Ebay copy. I got a couple in mid-80's. Im saying that it isn't dodgy as a couple of posters have inferred, albeit jokingly I assume. Borne out by demo copies in the same format. I think mine and Ted's point was that the regular issue isn't as rare as the Ebay seller makes out. As to different layouts as you say East and West and styrene and vinyl maybe, different pressing plants utilised by a major company. I regret Ted felt unable to enter this fascinating discussion and he will no doubt be giving my next topic a miss where I point out that in some Detroit matrices the "Z" is bigger than the "C" unless the "S" is slightly more curved preceeding it and it was recorded on a Thursday. My friend and I were stunned to notice this although he's not had a sexual encounter in some time and Im married. ROD
  14. I can only hazard a wild guess that it came out on two label designs with slight variation. If Mr Tag had carried on his investigation he would have noticed that there are demos with both layouts, i.e. "Lou Adler" on the right and "Lou Adler" under ther title. Mine, like the copy for sale, is styrene D-4012 with Delta # 58631-X. ROD
  15. I was actually complimented on my shagging by a young lady who came up to me afterward. I was with Mr. Raistrick who proceeded to giggle and smirk like a naughty schoolboy. Last time I saw him he told me we later had to make a run for the car as the male clientele were obviously threatened by my shagging prowess. I can't remember that but he assures me we did. ROD
  16. In excellent nick I'd say. Hear it here https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/d/73963/GEE,_RICKY £100 on JM site and $125 on CM,s £25 plus £2 postage 1st class recorded
  17. Here's a link https://www.beachshag.com/ I was kinda involved in it from around '76 to 2000 from the point of view of swapping 45s with some of the guys over there including finding records unknown to them with the right beat. And attending the odd club whenever I got the chance. Your questions would take a book to answer. It does have similarities in that it faded a bit like Northern in the early 80's but underwent a massive revival. From my experience you won't hear anything 60's that you don't know. Since my first time at Crazy Zack's in Raleigh [along with Dave Raistrick] in '79 I've hardly heartd a 60's record in a club. On the radio, yes but again nowt obscure to correspond with Northern. Last time I went to a club in 2006 I was told by mates that vinyl is gone and even CDs are being replaced for DJ use by laptops. The dj in the club in Greensboro was definitely using that format. Here's a couple of tracks I remember being very popular in early 90's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4Aidp6REiQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfew49guhhM Final one is my biggest discovery. It went massive and got booted. It's absolutely bobbins! ROD
  18. I agree Ted. The seller is talking rubbish to claim it's the only copy. ROD
  19. Boba, The hot water treatment only works on 60's EMI distributed UK 45s as far as I know. Gogo has confused me as he talks about applying pressure but he is right that it will make a VG [heavily marked but NOT scratched] record presentable. Never noticed any loss in sound quality though unless you f**k up in some way. Basically you boil a kettle. Leave for 2-3 minutes. Hold record upright slightly tilted, and pour water down one side and then lay flat Repeat other side. Dry off by wiping with record cleaning cloth. ROD
  20. Boba, could you give a bit more info please. Polishing with what? How does a layer come off? Are we talking US 45s [as Phil alluded to a US dealer] "Cleaned by a VPI[?] machine" you see in some ads. Is that it? The only thing I know about is the hot water treatment which only works on UK EMI records from the 60's. It will make them look better but won't get rid of scratches or skips. ROD
  21. I remember someone playing the grapevine release of Bobby Rich - Theres A Girl Somewhere at a venue where the next DJ on had the original and wasn't very happy I could be wrong but I think Grapevine issued those 45s for people to plat at home or in clubs. If someone is unhappy that they have the original but now anyone can spin it then my advice is to get over themselves and maybe find something else to play. Bobby Rich? Not exactly a new record is it? I'd agree that just because it looks like a UK issued 45 it's not certain to be a legal issue but when it is I can't see what ther fuss is about. ROD
  22. "Far away places" was the popular side over there hence BMR boot and EEE re-issue. ROD
  23. Some were waxing lyrical on here about the old Emi-discs they bought all those years ago. Are these not just the 2010 version? Not that Im condoning it but it's nothing new. ROD
  24. Ageed!! some 45's just aren't making what they should What exactly does this mean? Last couple of days off Ebay I've had a record for £7 that both John and Dave T. has for £75 and £100 respectively at set sale and another for same price that John has at £100 and Craig M at $125. I've no reason to believe that any 45 should sell at the higher value when it's evident from my winning that they just don't. ROD
  25. I'd like a copy of "Watchout" but Gordy would do. Mint or there abouts obviously ROD
