Enticers - Calling For Your Love
Its the same format as Otis Clay's Baby Jane/You Hurt Me For The Last Time on UK Atlantic. That also never came out in the UK with a solid centre. There were a few others too.

Magictones - Happy Days
What's quite odd about Happy Days being released twice is that, it's the official B-Side on both release #145 and #180. So did they use Happy Days on release #180, just to get the Magictones releases to a required quota and then get shot of the group as they left Westbound after this release?

Magictones - Happy Days
Kev, Are you sure your not mixing this with the Superlatives - Lonely In A Crowd, which was the previous Westbound release which has the details you mention. That one Lonely In A Crowd was also released on the Dynamics label (just to clarify).

What Did The Hopkins Bros Go For?
$3,306, I assume the odd $6 is to make sure they won it. I know it doesn't turn up and is very flavour of the month, but it’s a lot of money for a VG-, even if it does play better.

Why Does 60's / 70's Soul Sound So Timeless
This is my view, but in the 80's & 90's Black America moved away from Soul as its main social mouthpiece and used Rap for creating both innovation and raising issues. With the likes of (at the time): Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan, Dr Dre and NWA's output the pinacle of its genre.

Why Does 60's / 70's Soul Sound So Timeless
My children hate me playing my music in the car, with shouts of "Get that old soul stuff off.... We want to hear something more modern". I don't think you can say that modern released music is worse or not as good as old releases and I firmly believe you also have to put music into context of when it was recorded and what was going on at the time. Production values and technology also significantly changes the way music is made and I know my son doesn’t give a fig for a good string section, but love’s a good baseline as that’s what he’s latched onto music wise as his taste has developed. This forum’s music taste is slanted towards songs recorded 40 odd years, so the consensus would be yes older is better, but put the same question to a forum focussed on newer released material the opposite view would dominate.

Opinion Of Jms Price Guide 6
I've been going through it and at the weekend and found an entry for a group (can't remember who it was at the moment), with two records listed which were were duplicated on the next page with different prices. If its a gift accept it gratefully, if not save your money and stick to the 5th edition.

When A Pop Song Is Better Than The Original Soul Recording
They dont get better than this lot. Why did Cliff need to duet with this bunch of old duffers.......

When A Pop Song Is Better Than The Original Soul Recording
I understand it that the songs for the Thom Bell sessions were specificly written for Elton John. The Spinners were there as backing vocalists.
-
When A Pop Song Is Better Than The Original Soul Recording
I dont think its is. This is one of the songs from "Bell Session" he did in the late 70's. There was controversy over this mixing of the song, so it was left in the can for a couple of years. Both the Elton John and Spinners version were released in 79. So you could say that the Spinners is the cover version

Moses Dillard And Tex-Town Revue Band
Gonna Give It To You, as you said was a Mark V production, but so too were their 3 Smash singles. The Smash releases were from around 67/68 and the Blue Rock number puts it later than the Smash releases, so I would assume it was around 69. I wouldn't be surprised if the Blue Rock & Smash Stuff were recorded at the same session as they were both Mercury labels, with Just A Tear & Sad World Without You specifically crediting Moses Dillard as the arranger.

Poll - Your Black Music Preferences - New Questions Added
Don't worry about what the NS scene will be in the future as there's no reason for anyone to try and leave any sort of legacy, just enjoy it now. Also for your records, don’t worry about them losing value in the future, hopefully they’ll still give you pleasure whatever their value, that’s what record buying’s all about, isn’t it?

King Moses - Someone Got A Bargain
Listening to the clip on the site, £5k is a lot of money for something which I consider to be virtually unplayable. The only part where the crackles seem to be less of an issue is during the awful guitar bit. Never seen the point in owning a f*cked record play wise, just to say you've got a copy. It's complete madness.

D'oro Records
On Billy Washington's "What Did You Do" & "Do You Really Love Me" one of the writers was LeCharles Harper, who also co-wrote "I Dont Care" & "So Nice..." for Vivian Copeland, so I feel there is a tenable link there.
