  4. Another one that was also included in the Kent CD Southern Soul Showcase: Cryin' In The Streets was: 151 - Gable Reed - I'm Your Man/Who's Been Warming My Oven Theres further Miranet releases such as: 200 - Big John Hamilton - Lift Me Up/Just Seeing You Again which are on Minaret with a different design and what looks to be a few years later than the other releases? Theres also no mention anything about Shelby Singleton or SSI which the other label variants have. Dave, Do you want these also? Maybe Big John Hamilton is the link between the SSI related releases and the later design?
  5. Another one 142 - Genie Brooks - Helping Hand/ ??
  6. Heres a couple 130 - Genie Brooks - Fine Time/Juanita 137 - Candy Staton And Billy Walker - The Judgement/XYZ 141 - Johnny Dynamite - The Night The Angels Cried/Everybody's Clown 147 - Willie Cobbs - I Love Only You/Don't Worry About Me 157 - Willie Gable - Row, Row, Row/Eternally
  7. He was such a great artist. His Motown LP Havin A House Party was a great set released in the middle of the disco dark years. This is another great track from the LP and I think was his last Motown single release.
  8. I would have thought either Ady, Tony or Dean would be the best people to ask as they've been through those vaults and released a few CD's of Westbound stuff for Ace. I also don't think either side of this supposedly released singe were on any of them as unreleased tracks

    Dave, try this number 0800 358 6552
  10. Maybe Floyd Smith was being generous with sharing the writing credits on these as it seems to be a theme on all versions? I thought Apache was owned by Floyd Smith? If thats the case I can understand the James Phelps version. He'd already written some hits for Tyrone Davis, Jackie Wilson, Betty Everette as well as other work at Brunswick, so he was a bit of a local writing tallent. As John Edward's Weis output was Chicago based, there could have been an expectation that a Floyd Smith song would do the business on the major label and was this the same view of the other artists and labels? But this may be just my hypothasis and i've ended up talking a load of trash......
  11. The re-press is pinkier as the original is a deeper red. The original also has a bigger and bolder font. You can see the differences here: https://www.popsike.c...0601099173.html I wouldnt be surprised if they've all been repressed recently (last 10-15 years) looking at the Lanor website as I'm not convinced they'd have that much dead stock about after so many years, but that could be just my jaded view on life. https://www.lanorrecords.com/
  12. My copy's just popped through the door and oh the wait was worth it. Apart from the unreleased stuff already mentioned they're all great, well Jolene not so much. (Then again, I didn't like James Carr's unreleased version of Ring of Fire either, both the original country versions IMO were better, but I do like Stand By Your Man). When I saw the tracklisting included a version of Trouble, Hearaches and Sadness, I wondered how it would stand up as its one of my favourite Ann Peebles/Hi releases, but its compares really well. Another one that hit me straight away was Are You Just Building Me Up, smoother that her other Fame recordings, but just as good. A great swing your pants record.....
  13. Like you guys, I've bought mine from Roger Stewart as well. As you've both said he's reasonably priced and delivers a good service. Soon as I paid, got a mail saying its in the post. Just waiting for the postie to pop it through the letter box. So far for me, this is the CD release of the year.
  14. For some reason the LP's never clicked with me, I think I should take some time to re-digest it.
  15. I Wish It Was Me You Loved is IMO fantastic. Just As Long As Were In Love and When You're Alone are for me the only highlights of the Sweet As Funk Can Be LP I also like their version of Its Not Unusual Who can't have a soft spot for either the 7" or LP versions of I Touched A Dream.
  16. With Rick Hall at the helm her Chess recordings are some of the most expressive recordings of the late 60's

Blimey, I missed that one. I don't remember it as a US 7" release but I do know it as a Dutch 3 track CD with I Need You/One Of Them Thangs/One Bad Turn. If you could did it out I'd be eternally grateful.

I thought the Watch Me Now LP had some great tracks and many of the Lynn White LP's had great moments too. I do have to say that for me release 3008 - David Hudson - Just A Feeling/Lets Get Back Together is IMO the best double-sider on the label and possibly of the 80's. Its remained a personal favourite of mine since I bought it as a new release.
  19. Some George Jackson, well who wouldn't....
  20. This is one of my favourite Otis Clay Hi recordings, just so much dispair and an LP track to boot.......

I have quite a few missing numbers early on, can you help me fill them? The Willie Mitchell release I have as 108, actually has a release nunmber of 33108, i've assumed that the 33 is due to it getting a 12" release as the Billy Always 119 release was also released as a 12" as 33109. Did the Willie Mitchell get a 7" release? Lynn White's 118 release was originally on Sho Me. Do any of my missing numbers relate to other re-issues of previously released tracks? The Billy Always release 124 Take Me To The River, I have as a single sided demo, did it get issued with another song on the other side? I have release 3018 as a 12" release of Lanier & Co, this was around the time of the Syncopate/3-Way deals, did this actually get a Waylo re-release?
  22. I'm doing fine. A June Edwards EP seems a great idea and I'll have to start putting the pennies away for these future releases. Everybody probably knows about this, but for those who may not. Pete Nickols has written various indepth articals on the Norala and Quinvy studios for John Ridleys Sir Shambling website https://www.sirshambl...articlelist.htm I hope you get significant sales, which I think sadly the Charly set didnt.
