Comment: ?Rare pleasure? - let me down easy
US 45 is on Cheri. Famously sampled to within an inch of it's life by house producers. Great 45.

"very good point mate... I have the best experience at places like Spain/ Germany/ Sweden/Italy etc etc... its nice to get away and we do it more and more..... Promoters in the uk are gonna have to take that into account for sure as the £ is really picking up against the Euro again and we all get the map and diary out to plan trips.... Also less visitors now from overseas to our events as they have enough quality events in their own countries....." I wasn't even there Steve but I've been to events in Spain enough to know the atmosphere is always electric and the crowd as passionate was you could hope for anywhere....will certainly be making sure i'm in Bamberg next year.

"That's one of the problems with the UK in general. We're generally far too cynical and battle-weary to have fun any more after a lifetime of going to clubs and listening to years and years of music. That's why I suspect the scene is much more vibrant abroad and probably skewers to a younger, more enthusiastic audience generally. It's certainly a massively refreshing change for me whenever I go abroad to an event. Elsewhere they seem more enthused and less willing to find fault with everything. Maybe they haven't been spoilt like us ay?" Simply go onto youtube and have a look at the last daytime session at Bamberg.....amazing

Reading the constant pulling apart of nights/sets/people in general and whining on forums all the time certainly puts a dampner on things. Hardly evokes excitement.

The conversation Dekka and I had that included the topics of Move On & Burnley wasn't anything to do with the 100 Club - or our enjoyment of it that night - only that it just happened to be the place we were at when we had the said conversation.. Fingers

I LOVE this record....like the bit where he starts dishing out the kisses to the laydees as well..... Perfect dance tempo, perfect mix of funk, rolling sixties dancefloor soul, tidy vocals, and guitar licks. Sounded fantastic at the 100 the other week.

"As long as Callum (i dont know him) etc are not just playing the same tunes as the old guard, but in younger bodies, its a good idea. " Yes but the younger people don't have the same history with those records as older people such as yourself do. If the younger DJs want to play what would be considered oldies whilst still finding and playing fresh new sounds of all genres alongside, then great. I'm not advocating them playing solid oldies but that rich seam of music doesn't have the same amount of baggage for them as it does the majority of the scene. Of course it also depends who they are playing to. A crowd of younger people will also be hearing a lot of the is stuff for the first time. If the younger DJs are only going to be playing to the usual northern crowd of 40+ then of course they will fall flat on their arse if every person in there is religiously noting when, where and who played every record first. Having said that if maybe older members of the scene were to point new people in the right direction of new and varied sounds, that could also be a bonus? The scene will die if theres no sharing or co-operation. At the moment it appears some people exist on it purely to be at loggerheads the whole time! I'm not suggesting for a second i have all the answers, but there has to be some leeway i would imagine?

Is R'nb More To Do With Northern Soul
'but I can't think of any R&B big tunes that broke on the Northern Scene first!' Mickie Champion, was Cookie Jackson on Progress Stafford first? I think there are a few examples, but ultimately it doesn't really matter either way does it?

Is R'nb More To Do With Northern Soul
"There is history in the term that no amount of Adidas beard stroking trendy media glasses wearing beardos can steal or attempt to understand. " If by this you mean adverts such as the one currently showing i can see where you might form this view. But a lot of the beardy Adidas wearing people who frequent soul clubs nowadays all over the world have very strong knowledge of northern and rare soul music that you should be aware of.
