News: The Soul Set - Article on the group
Some bitter-sweet news: Two of the guys, Charlie and Dick finally got to meet up after too many years of being out of touch. The meet-up prompted Dick to go seaching for other band members. Sadly he discovered that their bass man, Tony Gibson, passed away last year. His obituary mentioned that he was in the Soul Set, so they take solace in the fact that the family felt it important enough to mention this within the obituary. RIP Tony Gibson

News: Jackie Day - Dig It The Most CD Kent
Had a review copy of this maybe two weeks ago, and got to say it's the best thing Kent have put out (or at least that has found it's way to me from the editor) in a long time. It's been getting some heavy abuse in this househild

What're you saying Chalky? That the "TUFF" Jackie Day has the voice of a woman, or that he's a bit cuddly? 1. (of a man or boy) displaying characteristics regarded as typical of a woman; not manly 2. lacking firmness or vigour [from Latin eff"ž"min"žÂre to make into a woman, from f"ž"mina woman] :-)

News: Jackie Day - Dig It The Most CD Kent
a) because it's a different Jackie Day and b) because the Jackie Day on Tuff is a MAN! ...not because we can't get the rights to Tuff (in fact we can and have used Tuff material on Kent CDs before...)

News: Hype & Soul - Al Abrams - It's Arrived!
Got my copy yesterday...recommended it to some fellow collectors in the store at the same time and x3 more left the shelves! A stunning piece of work featuring a fabulous account of behind the scenes realities of the day. I am particularly interested in the picture on page 18 taken during '66(?) whilst the Supremes were on tour in Japan...anyone got any other details of that Japanese trip? I've seen some poor quality clips of 'the Supremes In The Orient' video footage, but doesn't tell you much. I've also seen some colour pics of them dressed up in kimono, but can't source those at present...anyone help?!

News: Candi Staton - The Complete Fame Records Recordings - Kent Cd
Should point out that this cover was designed in Japan by Ace's Japanese distributor, before anyone thinks they were short changed at this end and starts writing into Ace Towers with 'Oi where's my sleeve' letters. We didn't have any, we're not going to have any, and the sleeve is exclusive to copies sold in Japan by the aforementioned local distributor...
